Damascus steel from shoe nails. Roasted nails.

I don't know what these nails were made of, but after a day and a half of trying, I could not properly etch the blade, only made shells.
Tea: rose hips.
www.amazon.com/shop/shurap
On my patreon page, I began to explain the processes and secrets of my work. Topics already covered:
1. Why do I add pepper to container Damascus steel.
2. What do I sprinkle? Flux and its composition.
3. How do I remove the container from the workpiece (container Damascus steel).
4. Why am I drilling a hole in a container.
5. Why do I sweep away the dross from the anvil with my hand.
6. Why do I first forge some blanks on a tree.

I made a Damascus steel knife once, the power hammer was broken so I had to use a sledgehammer with a friend. After the etching it came out beautiful and completely handmade with a coal furnace. Blacksmithing is a great hobby, it also builds your pain tolerance for heat and burns
@bh-0330
@bh-0330 2 года назад
should never be able to tolerate burns lol
@ninny65
@ninny65 2 года назад
@@bh-0330 it's inevitable, when you work with particularly high carbon content steel, every hit of the hammer creates sparks of super hot carbon and oxides that escape the surface of the material. They can fall down your gloves through the sleeves and burn right through the skin
@Xyz-ij6rh
@Xyz-ij6rh 2 года назад
@@bh-0330 actually most dangerous about burns on bigger areas of your body is the shock you can get which ends deadly fast I work in district heating and get a burn from time to time the effect doesn't change but you lose some of the pain which stretches your tolerance before s shock it can safe your life if you burn yourself seriously if you had experience with burns before

@VIISkies
@VIISkies 2 года назад
@@seanviklund6749 classic Damascus steel is possible because steel can contain different amounts of carbon, and higher amounts can darken the gray tint of the metal(correct me if I'm wrong). Damascus steel is made by taking two thin strips of steel with different amounts of carbon and layering them into a brick that's welded together and stuck in the forge. The rest of the process is effectively just molding the steel into a bar so you can cut and rearrange it back into a brick and repeating the process until you achieve a desired result. So TL;DR Damascus is what happens when you layer two different colors/tints of metal together to create more intricate patterns. More eye catching examples include Timascus, which is titanium dimascus, which is what's used for the Damascus skin in CoD MW2019

Typically, the canister for Damascus like this isn't hardenable steel. If you don't take it off, you can risk the soft steel being on the cutting edge, which won't hold an edge at all. Plus, leaving it on would lose the pattern.
