I make my Damasteel rings out of a round bar, drill the hole to size and shape the outside on the lathe...looks like its done much faster,no soldering,no bending 🤔 Hubs, Algarveknives, Portugal

As a knife maker, I love to peek into other crafts! Cool video! Question: Why not forming the ring when it is orange hot and then heat up further and quench?

Hi there - Accordingly to our tech team, they did not hot forge, because they have a bit more control when they do it cold; however, hot forging is totally fine too. Hope this helps!

What kind of soldering board did you use? It is not listed on the "Products used in this video" page on Rio.

It looked like a standard ceramic slab that I use in my glass and ceramic kilns.

Hello, we also spoke with our Jewelry Tech Team and wanted to clarify that it can also be soldered as demonstrated in the video. They also noted that Damascus is several different metals so it can blur or cover the fine lines in the Damascus when welding. We hope this is helpful and thank you for your support!

Since when is steel annealed with a quick quench? Usually it is annealed by letting it slowly come to room temperature.

Hi Matt, Thanks for watching. We talked to our Jewelry Tech Team about this, and here's the information they shared, "There are several types of steels. This steel can be quenched and it will remain annealed. Unlike martensitic steels, the austenitic stainless steels are not hardenable by heat treatment as no phase changes occur on heating or cooling. This means that it can be work hardened but it cant be heat hardened." We hope this information helps; please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything else we can do to assist.
