Lady Olivier she was in a settled peerage, though she never used the title but called herself Dame Joan Plowright - the honor bestowed on herself alone for her acting.
I would have loved to have sat down with Larry and had a beer with him and talked about the theater and Shakespeare and life. I could listen to that guy talk forever!!!
@@mortalclown3812 well that did not work out so well for them. Her Mentalhealrh became more than he could take. Sad but the truth! So only 2 beautiful people should be together.
He was crazy about you like you were about him I really think you were his true love after Vivien you were his breath of innocence fresh air and hope what a life you guys had love you Joan
@@toussaintanne-christine9504 I agree that where looks were concerned, Joan Plowright didn't come close to Vivien Leigh but Sir Laurence's life was a whole lot happier with Joan Plowright so kind of proves that looks aren't everything.
I think most people have the discernment to know that "looks aren't everything" in a serious relationship. Unfortunately for Ms. Leigh, she had the misfortune to have had mental illness that really had very few if any options to be treated other than ECT. This was at a time before lithium was available. Olivier's son Tarquin from his first marriage, says that Ms. Leigh was the love of Olivier's life. Tarquin explains it in a RU-vid video. Yes no doubt Olivier was happy to have a second chance to have a family. Although ironically, Olivier had serious health problems for a number of years when he was married to Joan Plowright. It seems to have worked out for everybody involved. Vivien Leigh had Jack Merivale in her life as well, after Olivier. There is a whole lot to be said for getting along with someone and having peace of mind and not having to deal with the noted Olivier ego. Kind of reminds me what Lucille Ball said about living with Gary Morton after her break up with Desi Arnaz. Sometimes it's best for all involved to move on after the relationship turns toxic.
@@EVALLOYD He was not happier, he just has got what was more suitable for him in that time of his life. She was much younger and capable to take care of him in his later age. Vivien was definitely The One!
It's none of our business. Judging others is old biddy stuff; let us be glad for the joy he found after so many impossible years. Treatment for bipolar illness was miniscule compared to today. Her behavior became dangerous. And her relationship with Peter Finch was first, in case you hadn't known it. Selah.
@@kristinemorley4337 v Vivien Leigh was the love of his life ,he abused Viv through out there marriage ,we know she had mental health problems and sometimes did not know what she was doing,l think if he did not leave her, which made her problems worse, Vivien would have lived longer ,he knew her more than anybody else,l sure he would have got her in to hospital as her cough got worse the doctor who was treating her was a disgrace as we know they both loved each other all their lives, so sad as she was the most gorgeous looking woman in the world.
