I just read tonight, the cantata here, written for deceased emperor Joseph 11, was never performed, everyone thought the composer had failed, until Brahms found the original manuscript almost 100 years later and was, of course, blown away. Beethoven wrote this, his first serious composition, at age 19 ! Whole cantata is 40 minutes long.

Yes, musicians of the Bonn Kapelle, where Beethoven was employed during those early years tried to play it but it was deemed to be too difficult.

Yes, Angel, at my age,( old ), I still am discovering things about Beethoven from time to time that continue to amaze me about the man. I believe of all the great composers, his was the life most heroic.

Very interesting music! It seems that Beethoven has neglected both Mozart and Haydn, and looks directly back to Gluck instead. Which, in fact, turned out to something successful.:-)

How interesting also that this piece (and the one for Emperor Leopold's succession) were both deemed 'unplayable' by the Bonn Kammermusik at the time!
