Here is where Shirley rises above the other female singers and what has made her career span decades. When her strap on her gown fell off on to her arm at a critical part of the song, she left it there, because if she made a big to do to bring it back on top, it would have ruined what she was building up to and she waited almost till the spotlight was out before bringing it back up. Genius!!
In my opinion. Our greatest female British singer. Not taking anything away from any others because we have had some true greats but shirley is a treasure proving that diamonds are forever. I was blessed that my late mother used to belt out her records when I was young. Her voice always reduces me to tears.
And still I sob my heart out every time I watch this... what a fabulous beautiful song sung by the only person who could ever ever have sung this.. Thank You the The Shop Boys and Thank you Shirley.... xx
I selected this song to be played at my mother's funeral who recently passed away. It reminds me no matter how ill or suffering she was she always managed to put on a smile, a brave face & a performance to ensure that her family & friends never saw her suffering. Thank you Pet Shop Boys & Shirley for allowing me to play this at my mothers funeral it is so very special for me - thank you
Nobody in her class she is fantastic supurb wonderful a truly truly great star Dame Shirley is the best singer that Britian has - and we should be so very proud of her and what she has achieved in her lifetime, long may we be bewitched thrilled by this lovely Dame. God Bless her. Love Michael
I first saw Shirley Bassey at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax when I was 17. I am now 75 She was backed by the Ken Macintosh Band. She was totally amazing then and still is. I loved you that night and still do.Thank you for some wonderful music and memories Melvyn
This song is one of the most beautiful ever written. No one but Dame Shirley Bassey could do it any justice. Her voice is still powerful, strong, rich and beautiful after all these years. Long live the Dame. You are loved and oh so valued!
bravo dame shirley, this is a typical bassey song, and a big well done to the petshop boys for this song,it will go down as a classic, give us more like it,xxxx
You cannot compare this beautitul woman (inside and out ) with anyone....I have played this is my life for 20 years and never tire of it...................
What a great lady. This song is so beautifully performed very movingly. Thank you Shirley for all of the wonderful songs over the years. An amazing lady
her voice says it all no one can sing like her just like no one can sing like barbara striesand or ella or diana they are all beautiful in there own way we all need variety enjoy
@whatigot2say She is a treasure and an amazing singer, she is our Welsh treasure, and when in Cardiff ..we know her as 'Our Shirley' and is always treated like a local here, we are not easily starstruck here I don't think...
I am the very least of her fans , BUT I knew her voice from a little boy, the power and beauty she possesses is beyond measure and Neil and Chris were so on point to write for Dame Shirley and Dusty, Liza, etc. They know know TRUE talent when they hear it. I am so glad I live in such a time where these greats have flourished and I was priviledged to witness their greatness !!! Thank You Dame Shirley, Dusty, Liza and PSB !!!
One of the greatest singers that has ever lived, a true Legend, a true living treasure. I only hope I can meet her before my life is done to bow down before her and kiss her hand in gratitude for all that she has given me in song and inspiration. I love you Dame Shirley with all my heart... =)
this is probably one of the most poignant songs I have ever heard. Neil and Chris are VERY talented song writers. The song speaks straight to the heart. One of the best in history I believe.
OMG! DSB is still stunning! Total perfection...stage presence, vocal artistry and emotional power. A unique legend who live on forever in the wonderful legacy of music she has gifted to us. Bravo!
My dad's favourite singer of all time,I finally understand the magic trick that all the best performers do,Shirley has it in spades..Miss u lots dad, meet u on the other side..X
I love this song it's very moving....Shirley has an amazing way of expressing words...you feel it you sense it you live every moment her whole being expresses a very vivid picture of emotion....it's in her movement, with her body her hands that are so expressive and beautiful to watch, she has it all ...No one absolutely no one can perform a song as she does....years ago I invited my brother to one of her shows.....as she often does ended with 'This is My Life' after the show he said He had tears in his eyes....that is really something for my brother to say....he's big strong and tough as they come not the type that would reduce to tears because Shirley Bassey knows how to reach the depths of your soul...she is so amazing...for years I have loved her I was about 16 or so when I first heard her sing..Till..and I was absolutely captivated by her magical sound. My interest became a passion all my life I am sad to say today that I don't have all her LP's that were and still a treasure, I had almost everyone released.....today I have lots of CD's and DVD's....but through these last few years I have not played her music so much..I only have TV but can still watch video''s.....More recently I bought a new TV and I can watch RU-vid....So it's been a revival of Shirely Bassey ...the ones I love to play now are The Greatest Performance of My Life.....Born to Lose....Music was my first love...Last Man in My Life...As If we never said Goodbye.. and Till so nice to relive the memories..
I have no words! This is beyond amazing! Dame SB! After so many years and still in the TOP! I lift my hat such an amazing singer/perfomer you are! This is pure class!
Shirley; You gave me pleasure, happiness and so much joy even in my darkest days of my life. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeb DONT EVER GO AWAY. THE WHOLE WORLD NEEDS YOU. THANK YOU, GOD BLESS YOU, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU GEORGE MAHSHI
Amazing song! Emotional performance, a true show stopper that brings out tears to our eyes!! Bravo Dame Shirley! (Best to Pet Shop Boys. I don't think there is a more prolific pair anywhere in the world. You guys just don't stop!!)
I got the Performance cd for Christmas. I CANNOT stop listening to it. This song, Almost There and Apartment are my favorites...though they are all pretty fantastic.
I always said to myself that this song should be Shirley Bassey's swan's song when that final day comes when she makes that final appearance on the stage saying farewell to her audience . . . .that's if she ever retires! But why should she? She is going STRONG and is better as ever! But still this song should be her last song because throughout her whole career she has given the performance of her life. This song perfectly explains and wraps up her successful career.
That - for all the young viewers in cyberland - is what we call a "live performance" by a woman who has actual "talent". Watch and learn...with love! Shirley - you've still got it and you ALWAYS will! Exquisite!
This is a great song I am proud of the Pet Shop Boys for writing this great song, there is no one better who could have sand this song it's made for Shirley. What a voice Shirley as the real X FACTOR, no one comes close she is simply the best.
My mother just died on July 4th 2014 and this song just makes me cry and is a bit about her. Love you so much Shirley, thank you for being you...and my mother!!! She loved you!! I am so sick without her, just been the 3rd day now....Bless!!! Jay
THE WORDS OF THIS SONG ARE SO HEART WARMING AND SOUL SEARCHING. I WONDER WHATS IN DAME SHIRLEYS MIND WHEN SHE SINGS THIS SONG?👑👑👑👑👑👑👑. JOANN. LAMONICA. ONEONTA NEW YORK
Every time a star passes away, even someone as famous as Michael Jackson, only then does the public truly get a chance to see the wonderful history and intimate look at that person's life and career from beginning to end. I always feel a bit of remorse when this happens, wishing I'd paid more attention and enjoyed the star while they were here. Shirley Bassey is what I call the epitome of a living legend. Lucky we are to have her voice, and it will be a sad day when she sings her last song.
