It's an intriguing thought and would certainly make for an interesting and extremely narcissistic painting competition - I reckon metal Thranduil, Defenders of Rohan Theoden and Eowyn in dress might all be in with a shout though... Well done Damian, one of your best Hobby Vlogs yet... That Banner looks amazing, I will be copying that when I'm painting mine... And your Gil-Galad is one of the best that I've seen, you somehow made his bulbous head look less bulbous ! Really nice work on him.... You should give us a current backlog vs painted update - don't think you've shared the numbers in a while.... I'm stuck around 60% painted vs backlog myself, but a recent order that included the Breaking of the Fellowship set may have set me back a bit ! Thanks for the kind words Joe, they really mean a lot, especially about Gil-Galad given that he was just speed painted following the guide in BGIME - really happy with how he turned out all things considered! As for the current unpainted/painted, do you mean the bought/painted thing that I normally do? If so, Hobby VLOG #13 will have a BIG update on this, tallying everything I've bought, sold and painted in the last 6 months since I last updated on my progress in VLOG #7 - I think I'll save the % of backlog reduction for the review of the year though :-) Damian
What a great way to paint up a BSIME army and, even though it has no purpose beyond clearing (and adding and clearing) the backlog, has meaning and memories attached to it. What a weird and wonderful hobby we have!

Great vlog! I usually watch these without commenting as I have them on a playlist that run through whilst I'm working at home. But this time I was actually painting along and working on my old metal High Elves!!! I've stripped and re-painted them back from when we did part of the fall of the Necromancer campaign together with Sam in the E.G pub!

Echo an earlier comment; the prowlers are not "rubbish by any standard"; to my eyes they're a solid tabletop standard. There should be no shame in timeboxing painting efforts; we're all busy people.

Definitely very BSIMEy, I'm fairly sure most of us have added something to the backlog so we can clear it of a Friday evening. Watched this whilst painting up approx 20 goblins for a doubles event, with the army chosen purely so that the backlog can be made that little bit more clear

Nice looking army. By the way what happened to the Shire project? I was looking forward to seeing all four Farthings painted up in their respective red, yellow, green, and blue colour schemes.

After getting that High elf Banner that came with the new Elrond in hand it makes me hopeful they’ll release new sculpts in some way either a plastic set (doubtful) or a Forgeworld pack similar to how we got the swan knights. With that banner being linked to Gil-Galad praying we get a foot and mounted update model for him as well, just give me more new elves to buy GW 😂

Great blog the high elves look stunning. I think I've taken on far too many commisions recently, forgot what its like to enjoy painting my own models. Im waiting for new Glorf to come back in Stock I cant wait for one.

We've got to pay the bills so the commission thing is totally understandable but BSIME gave me a really cosmic shift in 2020 about genuinely painting for the joy rather than chasing the dragon of tournament deadlines. It's slipped a bit since the world's opened up again and events have restarted but there's no doubt that I'm enjoying working on stuff like this FAR more than working on 'real' armies to put towards upcoming events. I hope you manage to strike a good balance before too long dude :-) Damian
@@battlestreamsinmiddle-eart8564 That is a great ethos. I dont mind the painting side too much now I think about it. I think its more the fact they are not my minis and I won't get to play with them. It doesnt have the same magic and excitement if they arnt mine. Also being a massive hoarder I hate to give away things so it hurts my soul to part with the minis xD. I need to find that balance!
@@jmaccsarmiesofArda Completely agree with that - I'm a really slow painter so have never been able to deal with the idea of commission painting. The idea of spending all that time on a model and then giving it away make me feel sick! The pressure to make sure they hit a certain standard would also be unreal - couldn't bear it! Damian

I think they look perfectly fine and I was really happy with them given the relatively small amount of time I put into them. The channel and these streams were kinda born out of the idea that getting your models painted to some standard you're happy with is far more important than getting them painted to the best you could possibly do. I've really enjoyed painting the plastic Moria Goblins, Mordor Orcs, Uruk-Hai Warriors and Warriors of Minas Tirith over the last three years and just getting them to the point where they look good on the table relatively quickly rather than agonising over every last highlight - it's been a really productive hobby breakthrough for me - Damian
Great stuff - really enjoyed that. Given me the inspiration to finish my own Last Alliance stuff and get through a bit of a painting/hobby block. I was able to get my hands on the Grimbold miniature recently so going to use that to get me hyped for Rohan again - then it's just a lot of Elven warriors for The Last Alliance. Oh, and my Gil-Galad has a similarly hooked blade so I'm just going to say that's legit haha
