Great VLOG ! I actually remember your VLOG from a few years ago when you started this same display board, I think it was around the start of COVID maybe ? The title was something like "Remember when Damian didn't finish a display board for a tournament ?" Final product looks great, very well done. And that Gandalf looks great too, finally after all that time working on him ! Thanks for sharing
Hey dude! Yep, that's the one, it was called 'How GBHL Damian didn't make a display board for the Middle-earth Great Tournament' on the GBHL Podcast channel and I actually make reference to it a few times in this one! Simpler times! Thanks for all the kind words though, really glad that you enjoyed the VLOG and I appreciate the comment! Damian
Really great video Damian. Upping the comedy game by the VLOG 😄! Format-wise, whatever makes it possible for you to continue producing these is my vote.
Epic board mate 👌 enjoyed all you video they are great. Love putting them on while I am hobbying keep them going mate you are one of the great pillars of this community 👍
Ha, Cheers dude, glad you enjoyed the VLOG and cheers for mentioning the 'throwing' content - to took a while to film/edit together so having people mention it does encourage me to keep going with that sort of stuff and put the effort in etc. :-) Damian
New shed, new style of vlog? interesting... Watching his while eating soem of yesterdays Döner "leftovers" and some other stuff. hope all BSIMERS and hobbyists have a nice holiday season!
Cheers dude, yeah I put a bit more effort in for this one with the time=-lapse/Voice-overs as it's always such a big deal/special event for me - the normal ramshackle VLOGs will resume in the new year :-) Damian
Watched this while wrapping my Christmas presents. It was about 10mins too short! Great vlog as always and appreciate the commitment to the bit re “chuck it all on a table” 😂
Ha! I can only apologise, I'll try and make the next one longer :-) Glad you enjoyed the VLOG and cheers for mentioning the 'throwing' content - to took a while to film/edit together so having people mention it does encourage me to keep going with that sort of stuff and put the effort in etc. :-) Damian
Ben and Kat's flight from the Isle of Man been delayed which meant I was able to watch this fairly hot off the press (Thu 21st). I remain amazed at your ability to hobby late/into the wee hours and cope with only a few hours of sleep; hats off to you and the result is wonderfully executed (as subsequent events demonstrated). You asked about the blog part arrangements. I don't have a strong view either way; you do set out the progression so we know where we're going and the order involved so I'm happy for you to slice and dice as you see fit from one year to the next.
Ha! Thanks dude, not sure if it's really 'an ability' so much as 'sheer stupidity' but I'll take the credit here! Thanks for the kind words and feedback on the format, I'll see how I feel next year! Damian
I enjoyed painting my Gandalf the White so much, I was motivated to get a second to convert, which I eventually ended up doing for Some Doubles Tournament
Needs a comedy warning! Burst out laughing at your throwing stuff at the table and nearly smeared black paint across the bottom of Saruman's robes 😂 Great Vlog, even better display board! Love it! I can finally say I've been back in the hobby for a good amount of time when I recognise bits of terrain from old boards you built during "my era". Thanks for all the Vlogs, and everything you do with the hobby in general - I think I can confidently say that you and Steve have almost single handedly kept me in it this time around with your Vlogs, events, community and of course, live streams!
Also, how do you get tester pots of specific colours?? Take a pot of rhinox hide into a shop or something? I have an unpainted Meduseld that's been sitting on the living room floor for about 6 months now...
Amazing display board depicting a great scene from the two towers , along with another very enjoyable journey that you share with us. Merry Chrismas to you and your family and thank you for all your hard work this year making our hobby and community such a great place to be a part of.
Thanks for all the kind words Darren, that all really means a lot to me, really glad to hear that you enjoyed the board, the journey and everything else we've done this year - thanks for always dropping such supportive comments own the videos - they're very much appreciated :-) Damian
Well, potentially my favourite hobby vlog I’ve ever seen! What a stunning looking board, it caught the scene perfectly, and it has inspired me to make a helms deep/ Eomer & Gandalf list! Great stuff. Also very happy that we got a couple late nights in the shed/ electric garden chalet
Wowsers, that's praise indeed - thanks so much mate! Really glad you liked the board, I was really pleased with how the board turned out and I'm glad you enjoyed the new chalet content! Good luck with the army, as you'll see in the next VLOG, I really enjoyed using them at the event and I think they're surprisingly good, much better than their reputation suggests - Damian
The shed's cramped? ... I know the feeling This build reminds me a bit of a cake my brother had as a child in the shape of the Tamworth Snow Dome's ski slope.... only a lot, lot better. This is magnificent. Classic passionate wargamer stuff - working yourself half to death, until 3 in the morning, because you want to share the cool idea you have. Well worth it.
Ha! Indeed, I guess I'm preaching to the head of the cramped choir on that one! :-) I'm a bit annoyed that you've spotted that the whole thing was just ripping off the Tamworth Snow Dome's ski slope though, I really thought I'd get away with that one... Thanks for all the kind words mate, it really does mean a lot and encourages me to keep going :-) Damian
Thanks, it's not something I do a lot but it just felt right for this VLOG and allowed me to include a lot more Timelapse./WIP/Process stuff - glad you liked it! Thanks for the feedback as well, I'll bear it in mind for the future - Damian@@Lekdog
These videos especially the display boards are so inspiring, and is what have made me want to try making a display board for the first time. Even if mine are alot less ambitious than what your are
Some washes put on some Tomb Guard whilst watching this. Rohan archers for Helm's Deep to continue when I feel ready for some detail work. I've not picked up a brush for about a month, thank you for kickstarting a hopefully productive year.
Hello sir! Just getting back into MESBG after 18 years and saw your post in the gbhl Facebook group. This looks awesome, and especially appreciated the throw everything on a table technique, just gotta keep on trying til it works I think! 🌞
Awwww cheers dude, really glad you liked it. What can I say? Sometime you've just got to throw everything at a table! Welcome back to the hobby, you may not know but we do regular hang out and paint live streams on this channel and the next one is tonight! Feel free to come along and join in if you fancy some relaxed hobby fun to help clear your backlog! Damian
Tsk, tsk - the wasting of paints could have been easily predicted and thus avoided. Where did the money come from to replace them all? I presume either your black dice budget or your Christmas tithe for the poor.
Incredible work there Damian, really enjoyed the vlog! You asked whether the format worked, and I really like the thematic division of heroes, board etc, but it does come at the expense of drama in some way - but I suppose that’s largely a (ent)moot point because most of us will have seen the project shared on Facebook before the videos come out. Still food for thought! Looking forward to Part 4, and I’m uniquely in a position where I have now caught up! 😮
Cheers dude, much appreciated and I'm glad you enjoyed it! The loss of tension/narrative was what concerned me the most to be honest, it made sense in my head to do it this way because I'd assumed that Gandalf and the Riders would be finished a week or two in advance so those VLOGS would be up ahead of the event and perhaps even adding to the final tension of whether the board got done. Having to finish everything on the same day ruined all that of course. I think I still prefer it this way (assuming I can ever actually get the 'early' stuff finished 'early') and people seem pretty positive about it so I think I'll keep to this format if it works going forwards :-) Gross apologies to you for catching up, I have failed you all :-( The next VLOG should be out pretty soon :-) Damian
