No, please, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. If I recall correctly from a interview by Damien, this song was written shortly after 9/11 when he was returning back to New York on a plane, and these lyrics came to him. Perhaps they are sentimental and simple, but they were his honest feeling at the time. His lyrics don't always have to have a political or social relevance. As for adding a traditional intro, many artists evolve their songs in live settings, and this was a nice result.
I'm an American and I try to sing along to this but I can not understand any words besides apple of my eye lol. This song is so good though I just mumble words as I sing along.
@@nolanschuyler5770 I think it goes ...... " Flying over the sea My guitar and me Thirty thousand feet What a brilliant feat. Go west, don't go east The famine or a feast They treat them better there A homeless one is rare. Chorus I feel,...the city's love The apple of my eye I cherish her Second verse Everybody's here From all across the earth Tongues and tribes galore There isn't any war. Chorus I feel,.....the city's love. The apple of my eye I cherish her New York, New York, I'm coming New York, New York, I'm coming! "
Somewhere, after a lifetime of banal shit, phil coulter is whipping mary byrne with a vacuum cleaner flex, saying ", Why couldnt I have written THIS song, instead of being lumbered with you, you old boot?" "Ah Phil , {ouch!}, you don't have an ounce of such talent in the first place{ouch!}."
