Someone said something like this on another Daft Punk reaction: Mitch: I'm dressing in a crew neck sweater. Scott: I'm dressing like ice. Kevin: I'm dressing like Data. Kirsten: I'm dressing like an Avatar. Avi: You guys are getting dressed??
This was the video that made them international superstars, their first big world-wide hit. They had booked professional studio time to record the song, and had an elaborate video shoot planned. The studio time fell thru at the last minute, so they ended up recording the song in a bedroom closet and shooting the video in a kitchen. The budget for the shoot was only $400 (not counting post-production and editing costs, which was also on a shoestring). The single became a huge hit and the video went super-viral, they won their first Grammy, and Sony took them out of the contract they had with the small Madison Gate label and promoted them all the way to the major RCA label...and the rest is history!
Love your PTX reactions man, you really make it even better than it is already!!!! Plz react to Bohemian Rhapsody and Can´t hold us by PTX as well (some of my favs of them while Avi was in the group as the bass). Have a beautiful day dude!!
This Grammy was for Best Arrangement, Instrumental Or A Cappella in 2014. They won again in the same category in 2015 for "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy” which you should also check out.
They won the Grammy for Daft Punk in 2015 and for Sugar Plum Fairy in 2016. The Grammy for the Jolene duet with Dolly Parton was in 2017. But I agree, Sugar Plum Fairy is definitely worth checking out, as is Jolene. 🙂
@@luinrina The crazy thing about the Jolene grammy too is that's the only grammy dolly has for that song IIRC, which is pretty crazy for a song as prolific as Jolene
@@Wuffskers You remember it correctly. She was nominated for Jolene in 1975 and 1976 but didn't win. Such a shame, Jolene is such a well-known song. But she finally got one with PTX.
Thanks for the reaction. Glad that you liked it. This was a medley of 7 Daft Punk song. Two of three of their Grammy wins were for arrangements. This was one of the two.
This is from their early days. Mitch was only a couple of years out of high school, and was still hesitant to explore his own vibe. The extra weight was part of his 'emotional protection,' and the burden of fitting in. Once he started to feel confident in his own skin, the real Mitch began to bloom, and we got to share in the many sides of his beautiful, creative self, both visually and acoustically.
@@jannorton5108 a general rule I was given a few years ago was: if you are thinking of commenting on someone's appearance, first ask yourself if it's something they can fix in 5 minutes, and if not, then don't say it. Shirt tag out? Sure. Weight? No. Milk mustache? Yes. "Bad" teeth? Nope. Etc etc.
So much fun seeing someone watch Daft Punk for the first time! Great reaction! You really should check out Mitch's new cover of "Your Power". It is awesome!
Try adding a filter over the video (falling snow or disco lights) or even a watermark of your channel so that the content isn’t blocked. That way you can show the video in its entirety without pausing. You can also file a dispute of the videos that you’ve already done, or repost the ones that were blocked with a filter or watermark. These are things that other reactors do and are successful in uploading their reactions without copyright block.
Some others you should check out are Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody, Sing, Imagine, Papaoutai, 90s Dance Medley, Happy Now, Cheerleader...k, let's face it, all of them are amazing!
This group is one of my favorites! Can you do us a favor and react to "Home Free"? They are also acapella and their beat-boxer is also incredible. Check out "All about the bass"... They took a Pop song and make it country with Beat-boxing and Yoddling in it!!!!
Yeah, this is a mashup of a bunch of different songs. I've seen people say 7 songs, but I'm not overly familiar with Daft Punk so I can't verify. (Technically, medleys are a bunch of songs strung together in whole or part one after the other and mashups are the songs intertwined and mixed up). This one was from 2013 and, yeah, Mitch stands out in these really old videos for not standing out... you'll also find that he sang a LOT lower in general back then. It amuses me in the Mackelmore cover how they make a big deal out of where he hits the high note... and it just isn't that high compared to modern Mitch. Mitch, himself, referred to 2011 The Sing-Off Mitch as "masc Mitch". It feels like after they got a new recording contract he felt more enabled to play around and find himself and how he was happiest in his vocals, style and life in general. It was around 2015 that the other members started talking a LOT about how happy they were Mitch was coming into his own, though getting him recognition was something they raved about as early as their time on The Sing-Off.
The Daft Punk songs mashed together are: Technologic / One More Time / Get Lucky / Digital Love / Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger / Television Rules the Nation / Around the World.
It was 400 and it was filmed in Avi and Kevin’s apartment closet 😂 Kevin is wearing the glasses because his eyes couldn’t handle the contacts. If you notice the others eyes are really red. I think It wouldn’t be the same if Kevin wasn’t wearing the glasses!!

In 2014, they won the Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental Or A Cappella. More interestingly, there was no Grammy for a cappella music before 2014; this category was formerly titled Best Instrumental Arrangement or similar. So basically, PTX put a cappella music on the Grammy map. Their 2nd Grammy was for the same category with Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, a purely instrumental piece done with voices. I believe this was done to support their claim to the Instrumental part of the Grammy category.
Its actually a really good place to do it.. I know lots of bands that have done the same thing cause all the clothing and material are great sound dampeners
You can't go wrong with any Pentatonix songs. They slay everything they do. Check out their original Sing. It's infectious and fun. Also the collaboration with Toderick Hall, Wizard of Ahhs...
The best live performance video is their 2016 Popspring performance ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7GMHqYxpnzk.html . It was recorded by/for MTV so the audio and video is top notch. Added bonus it features three originals, 'Cracked', 'Can't Sleep Love', and 'Water' (led by Kirstin) along with a live version of their 'Evolution of Michael Jackson'.
I see you are just entering the rabbit hole. I only see Hallelujah and Daft Punk. There is SOOOOO much more to check out. Sound Of Silence Amazing Grace Imagine (with visual message) Bohemian Rhapsody Jolene with Dolly Parton (Grammy) To get you up to speed, try the "Beginners Guide to Pentatonix" SPOILER ALERT. There are clips to lots of their songs, but it covers so much background details. Not really one for a reaction video, just for personal development. As I think of Pentatonix..... take 5 soloists who can harmonise and join them together.
I clicked out when he called every single guy by their name and then called Kristen “the girl” - no time for someone that has no time learning everyone’s name EQUALLY.
I don't think Avi gets enough recognition, I've watched a few reaction vids by now, everyone is blown away about Kevin's beat boxing, which is fantastic, btw. and Avi gets overshadowed quite a bit.
If you want to know what is possible - here are some fun facts about this video: - The medley was recorded at one of the band members home in a bedroom closet because they had the best acoustics there. - The video was recorded in a private kitchen. The only prop used (except for the contact lenses and Kevin's glasses) was a round neon lamp. - The total cost of the production was about 800 US Dollars. That seems to be all you need to win a Grammy! Of course you also need the incredible talent of six music lovers...yes six. Ben Bram, their Arranger is also part of magic.
Nicely done, l was going to comment this in if now one else had but you beat me to it and did a clearer job than l normally do, ;-) FYI; l thought it was $400 but that is a minor point (could be currency exchange difference), the point is they did it themselves.
Whether its true or not some say Mitch is battling cancer so if he is it would explain the drastic changes in weight, looks, etc. Again, I DO NOT know if this is true or not.
It was then revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer. While he didn't share any details about it, the disease was caught an early stage, and he had to undergo chemotherapy which reduced his weight significantly.Apr. 10, 2020 As well as an eating disorder. Both very horrible situations. This is in response to his weight comment.
You should check out Home Free, the Pentatonix of Country A Capella…but they do so much more. Man of Constant Sorry is a good introduction to them. Another rabbit hole!
Also, I think Avi joined Home Free after he left Pentatonix, amicably, for family and scheduling reasons. Pentaholics, please correct me if I got that wrong.
@@kristaphipps6932 Avi didn't join Home Free, the groups are friends and Avi did the appearance with "Ring of Fire" as well as did a cameo in Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget....they actually recorded both back to back...so Avi was still in town....most of the A Capella groups are friends and arrange for each other etc..Chance came from another group where he used to be the Bass...so he and Tim compliment each other nicely.
As I recall, Mitch got bullied a lot online about his weight in the early few years by cunts on the internet. He looked perfectly healthy to me. I don't know if it was due to that that he started losing weight but I remember worrying about whether he was well during that transition time because his eyes always looked so dark and sunken and he sometimes looked pale. But eventually, he started looking healthier and more vibrant again but with less weight and (usually) neat hair and fashion.
Love Pentatonix, I love a lot of great Acapella groups, I've just recently discovered your channel through your last PTX reaction so I haven't had a chance to go through and watch the rest of your videos yet so I don't know what other groups you've actually already been introduced to but a few other great groups like this are Home Free, Voiceplay and also don't forget Voctave, sometimes they get overlooked because they're a different kind of Acapella group as far as that they have quite a few more members and their style is quite different than the other groups but they are absolutely amazing, I hope you will take the time to check them out. A few of my recommendations for them would be their Disney Princess Medley, or the Disney Love Medley in which they feature Kirstin from PTX and her then fiance Jeremy, also their newer cover of a song called You Will Be Found in which they featured a 1000 member virtual choir done during quarantine. Anything you choose by them would be fantastic though and you wouldn't be disappointed even though their style is different than these other acapella groups are, they are just as amazing and I'd have to say probably one of my top favorites although I love them all! Thanks for another great reaction to PTX!
Quoting the grammy website: Pentatonix picked up their first career GRAMMY for Best Arrangement, Instrumental Or A Cappella for "Daft Punk" for 2014. The group won the same category the next year for "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy." Pentatonix made their GRAMMY performance debut with an excerpt of "That's The Way Of The World" with Stevie Wonder on the 58th GRAMMY Awards in honor of Maurice White, who died Feb. 4, 2016.
It’s so much fun to watch your enjoyment! And yes, I saw the 4 chords songs... ahahah. So true though. You will always get an earful with PTX. Keep enjoying. 🤗
Dance away! After all, David danced naked before the Lord in praise & Thanksgiving! Not sure how that would go over now days, but the Bible says that "David was a man after God's own heart". So dance & enjoy! 💖
Here is the first link when you search RU-vid for: Pentatonix grammys * www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/pentatonix/20140 Others already answered your question directly, so I thought I'd offer all their Grammy info.
YES! YES! YES! I knew you would do this one!! Fantastic! Your reaction was spot on bruh! 🖖👍👌🤘😎🤣 This was the 1st PTX video I was shown, and I was immediately hooked for life. You had the same reaction I did, and you are so right, you can't stop your body from bouncing to this song! #NailedIT
Very patient of you to post the lyrics. If you noticed though, Kirstie sang "Around the World" three times while Avi was doing "Television" and also towards the end
that is Mitch's citizen disguise. He didn't start getting zingy with the fashion for the first couple of years. He was very shy and not confident at first. Once he got some hair on his chest he started letting his creativity run amok. Now we have the Mitch we all know and love if it's in Green silk house robe or King Hotntot's pink feather cloak.
