It may shock you to know that they put this together mostly by them selves with $400 using Avi and Kevin's closet and their kitchen counter for editing...and it won them a Grammy! Mitch is the guy singing "One more time" He had a couple of chubby years after leaving home and eating too much fast food. Then before they did Hallelujah he went on a major diet and lost a LOT of weight, which is why he looks so different from the man in Daft Punk video.

They “dressed” up again for an original I think you would enjoy called Love Again.

Sorry about the blocking. It's the video that triggers the block, so most reactors alter the video -- make it smaller, increase the transparency, blur it, overlay a graphic. And they have dozens of great songs that don't have an official video; reacting to a fan lyric video should not be blocked. Or there are some official videos that are less likely to be blocked, including their "Evolution of..." series and "90s Dance Medley"

Mitch was almost painfully thin in the Hallelujah video and a bit heavier in Daft Punk and Mary Did You Know. No judgment, just fact. Saying that he changes up his hair, mustache, scruffy, clean, shaven and when you get to SuperFruit, his hair color. Also, his style of dress changes too. On the other hand, you'll never know what color hair Kirstin is going to be sporting either.

Sunny, you've experienced Avi's mind-boggling basso profundo; now it's time to meet the current PTX bass, Matt Sallee. As I understand it, he's known as a lyrical bass; a little different voice than Avi but just as beautiful, I think. He's the tall black cleanshaven guy in videos such as "The Sound of Silence" and "Amazing Grace." His humming alone is so soothing, deep and melodic like a mellow tuba. And his lead in "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is hilarious! Also, I keep trying to call you Sunny D, as in the citrus drink. Please excuse me. ;D

She IS beautiful....and yes, Avi left to do some family stuff and go in a different direction. Mitch, extreme vocalist with tones so pure and outrageously high, has been there from the beginning. Welcome, Sunny, to the acappella rabbit hole. Don't forget Home Free and Voiceplay, also. The triumvirate if acappella groups. You will be overwhelmed.

Your best bet is to check the date of the video you're reviewing. If it's before 2018, it will be Scott, Mitch, Kirstie, Kevin and Avi. From 2018, instead of Avi you'll have Matt. Other than that, there have been no changes in the group, though Kirstie and Mitch are both major chameleons and sometimes it's hard to tell it's them. I'm not sure why their label is such a pill about blocking reviewers, I would think it was a kind of free advertisement. It's not like us Pentaholics haven't watched the ink out of the official videos. Other reviewers have come up with a whole gang of methods, and one or two have mentioned simply contacting SME and asking for the block to be released for reaction purposes. However, you probably should also add a disclaimer to your text up above about "fair use" and all that. "Sound of Silence" would be a good intro to Matt. My personal favorite, just due to the bounce between him and Kevin, is "New Rules x Are You That Somebody," which is just some astonishing syncopated bop. However, their catalog is quite large and you literally can't find a bad song on it anywhere, so have fun exploring. If you like cheerful music, then you'll love "Sing," which is one of their originals and possibly the most upbeat piece of music I've ever heard. Enjoy.

That's not a new guy. That's Mitch. He was wearing a hat in Hallelujah. He looks different in every video but he is always there. Avi (ah-vee), the guy in the beanie, is the one who left. He was replaced by Matt. When you see two black men there, the second one is Matt. (You already know Kevin, the beat boxer.) Her name is Kirstin (Cur-stin). She changes her look a lot too but she is always there. Yes, they won their first Grammy for this. They recorded it in a closet and filmed it in a kitchen with a budget of $400. Definitely pausing is part of reacting to Pentatonix. It just is. Also it may help to fade out the video, lower the opacity a little if you get really stuck on one. I think Bohemian Rhapsody almost always gets blocked the first time. You should check Imagine and the they do Evolution Of…Music, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Rhianna and Arianna Grande and then medleys like this one. You should check those out as well.

Kirstin is literally glowing these days. She is at least halfway through her third trimester. They haven't announced a due date yet but my guess is the middle of June.

They did DaftPunk at a private party just standing in the middle of a room in front of a few people sitting there watching - no mics, no blue eyes... lol.. but amazing talent - it's just as great as this one you just watched! Great reaction. The confusion over members is pretty common for PTX newbies. As someone else said, you can pretty well tell how old any video is by Mitch's look. His growth as a man and performer has been a real journey. Mitch is the youngest of the group, and was just finishing high school when they first entered on the Sing-Off competition. Growing up in Texas, he was the victim of bullying because of his unique voice, but a decade later he is fully in his own power. They perform an original song called "Happy Now," about moving through life issues to a place of personal freedom. Mitch's parts are telling.

The new guy you keep talking about is actually Mitch with the angel voice and cool hat in Hallelujah. He alters his looks a lot but he is a countertenor and can hit really high notes. Love your reaction and you will love their EVOLUTION videos especially Evolution of Michael Jackson. You talk about a great mashup!!!!!

This Daft Punk medley/mashup won them their first Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or Accapella in 2014. Followed the same award for “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” in 2016 from their very first Christmas album titled “That’s Christmas To Me.” The last Grammy they won was for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for their cover of “Jolene” ft Dolly Parton. Hopefully their cover of “The Prayer” (originally performed by Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli) they recorded for their 2021 Christmas Album, “Evergreen” will win them their 4th Grammy (it would be new member & Bass Matt Sallee’s first) in 2023.

So the lineup: Scott- tall blonde who sings baritone Mitch- shorter brunette who sings tenor (also usually when he sings you get “Mitch Slapped”) Kirsten- only female also goes by Kirstie Avi- pronounced Ah-vee he is the bass and beat boxer. Left the group on good terms do to family issues in 2017 was replaced by Matt who is also a bass and beatboxer. Finally there’s Kevin- Kevin is an all around performer. He sings tenor, beatboxer, plays the cello and other instruments. All of the individuals have their own solo careers and most also have their own RU-vid channel. Scott and Mitch have known each other since they were about 8 and then they reunited in high school and met Kirsten and decided to perform as a group. They were introduced to Avi through a friend and they saw Kevin on RU-vid. You should check out Scott and Mitch’s RU-vid channel it’s called “Superfruit”! They have some great stuff on there with several collaborations.

In "Bohemian Rhapsody," remember the guy who sang "Mama, just killed a man"? That was Mitch Grassi, the guy you keep referring to as "the new guy." The *real* new guy isn't in this video since it was made before Avi Kaplan, the bass, with the corn rows, left. Everyone in this video is one of the original five members of Pentatonix. The beatboxer is Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth). Kevin is insanely talented. Not only is he one of the best beatboxers on the planet, he has a pre-med degree from Yale; he speaks five languages, including Mandarin; and he's classically trained on piano, cello, and saxophone. It was a viral RU-vid video of Kevin beatboxing *while playing the cello* that brought him to the attention of Pentatonix when they were searching for a beatboxer to handle percussion. Kevin invented the technique, which he calls "celloboxing." He has performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on the saxophone and once on the cello. And on the rare occasions when he can be spared from percussion long enough to take a solo he has a lovely tenor voice and is known for the great beauty of his falsetto register. And when he laughs it's like the sun coming out from behind clouds; there's a whole video of Kevin laughing at Mitch. Should you mistakenly think this is all production, they do this live. They are masters of arrangements. The Bass, Avi, was replaced by Matt in 2017. That is the only change.

Also, Kirstie is indeed adorable; I love the crooked little smile she makes during her solo. In their official "Sound of Silence" video she wears long black hair and dark eye makeup, which caused one poster on an older reaction channel to comment "Is that a Kardashian?" XD

These are all original Pentatonix members. This was recorded in 2013 and won them a Grammy in 2014. The bass, Avi (with the beard), left in 2017 and was replaced by Matt. Matt is black so you can't miss him. lol Every singer is featured in some video. Kirstin is featured in a song she wrote, "Be My Eyes". Mitch is featured and really shows his stuff in a low quality video recorded live from the audience on a phone in Singapore singing "Aha" (google Aha Singapore). Matt, the new bass, is featured in "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Scott shows his opera side in "The Prayer", as does Mitch with his angelic voice, and Kevin shows his "Band inside his mouth" stuff in a number of songs including "Oh Come All Ye Faithful". Kevin's world class cello playing is featured in "Shallow". Kevin was featured at Carnegie Hall playing the cello and, featured another time at Carnegie Hall playing the sax. Scott and Mitch combine together to perform as the group "Super Fruit" in a number of videos. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie sang together in high school and performed as a trio at a number of events. They wanted to compete in "America's Got Talent" as an acapella group but were told every group had to have at least 5 members to compete. They found Kevin on the internet and Avi the day before they performed on tv. They won a recording contract and the recording company dropped them before they recorded anything. After that they took their future into their own hands and ended up on your channel. It's fate!

As others have said many reactions will get blocked. Most reactors will put a filter over the video, some don't show it at all. Speaking for the majority here (presumtious I know, but probably correct) we are here for YOUR reaction to PTX and have seen the official video more times than we can count, so if you need to remove the video to get your reaction through then so be it.

those are all the same people in all 3 videos you have watched. ALL the SAME. The guy with the beard left after a few years and was replaced in 2017. They did this video in their apartment closet and kitchen and it cost $400 total for the contacts and anything else. Mitch changes his hair and has had weight changes throughout the years and now remains very thin. Kirsty rhymes with thirsty changes her hair color a lot. The guy with the beard is Avi who left and was replaced by Matt who you will see in later videos. He is great as well. They have hundreds of songs and all are fantastic. Kevin is the beatboxer who also plays the cello in some of the videos. he can sound like a drum set when he gets going.

Pausing and commentating is a good way not to get blocked. So for your other video you did that got blocked, just edit it with more pauses or a filter over it. Pentaholics knows what you are looking at, we just want to see your reaction.

I hate be he one who tells you but there are about 500 PTX related videos on YT, going back all the way to Scott and Mitch performing both solo and as a duet in their High School talent show.. There are solos, duets, trios and quartets involving at least one or more members. It is a very very deep rabbit hole. At least you will not run out of material for a long long time.

This particular vid is legendary among PTX fans. They were unknown at the time and had basically no money to speak of. Kevin wrote the arrangement, they recorded and filmed the parts in Avi's closet, did the sound mixing on the kitchen table, and sent it out to a pro for video editing for $400. And that's how they won their first Grammy.

Yes, this arrangement won them the first of three Grammys. As many others have said, if you have to ask "is that Mitch?" the answer is always yes! He and Kirstie change up their looks often. This was early Babytonix. They formed PTX in 2011 to compete on the a capella competition show The Sing Off. They were 18/19. Scott (white hair in this vid), Mitch, and Kirstie went to high school together and were known as The Trio. To compete they needed a bass and beat-boxer. They met Avi through Scott's friend (the person who would go on to become the "sixth" member producer/arranger Ben Bram) and found Kevin when his video of himself playing cello while beat-boxing (or "cello-boxing" as he calls it) went viral. They convinced him to join them and the rest, as they say, is history. As many have already said, Avi left in 2017 and was eventually replaced by Matt Sallee. I will echo whoever it was that said Sound of Silence is a great way to be introduced to Matt. Then maybe give New Rules x Are You That Somebody a go.

I agree with another commenter, the sound of silence is a good way to be introduced to Avi's replacement, Matt. But there are still a lot of videos with Avi that deserve to be watched, such as 'Say Something', 'Imagine', 'The Evolution of Michael Jackson', 'Can't hold Us (Macklemore cover), etc. I can't wait for you to get into their newer stuff like 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?' If you were blown away by this performance, then you have to react to their original song they did around the same time as Daft Punk. LOVE AGAIN. The inspiration is the same...it's like they are dressed as futuristic Steampunk Aliens. Mitch is a beast as lead on this song, because he stays in one of his high octaves. Kevin made a bass drop that sounds like they cheated and used 808's speaker beats. It was so good that I forgot where I was for awhile. Made me do an ass drop like I was at an EDM concert. Lol It sounds so good in the headphones. The more traditional sound to their A Capella would be MARY DID YOU KNOW? I get goosebumps and tear up almost every time I hear it.

Hello Sunny P. PTX are masters of A Capella arrangements....also masters of vocalizations. Mitch is not the new guy - he is the counter tenor - you saw him in the big hat in Hallelujah, also doing the electric guitar solo in Bohemian Rhapsody, with the sleeve tassels Amazing Grace and the first singer and main lead in The Prayer - he has not left the group. The one who left was Avi, in 2017. This video was earlier than that, so Avi is still with them. He's the white guy with the beard and is a basso profundo, operatically trained. In the Daft Punk Medley, you are looking at the original team. Get into "Sounds of Silence" to see Matt, the guy who replace Avi. Kirsten stands out with or without a blue wig. Her voice is not to be discounted. You might be confused by the fact that Mitch and Kirstie tend to experiment with their "look" on each video. Yes, this was their first Grammy. Made at home in Avi's closet. Cost them about $400 for initial costs. Post-production was also a cost, but hey - it won them a Grammy. The 2nd Grammy is the one that usually gets people in serious disbelief. They did "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" (from the Nutcracker Suite), a musical selection with no words from a group that plays no instruments.

Kirstin/Kirstie (rhymes with Thurston/thirsty) and Mitch (who sang "One More Time" in the video) are really chameleons, and these are just their latest disguises. Seriously, they change appearance more than all of the other members combined, and often are mistaken for "new member" when they are actually part of the core group that became Pentatonix. Kirstie changes hair color (varying from blonde to black and everything in between), hair style, and eye makeup. Mitch changes...everything. Hair style (or if it's there at all), color, facial hair, etc. His fashion sense is uniquely his own. So you're not alone in being confused by whether there are new members in the group! Others have explained about Avi and Matt, so I'll simply say that Sound of Silence is an excellent introduction to Matt, and one of his earliest videos with the group.

As people mentioned it was Avi who left the group for personal reasons on good terms in 2017 and was Replace by matt sallie. Niche is actually a counter tenor which is higher than a tenor And apparently it's rare to find a true counter. You have yet to hear him come even close to how high he can go. Kevin in addition to beatboxing Is a world class cello player he beat boxes while playing the cello and has coin the phrase cello boxing. He has performed at Carnegie hall On the cello and the saxaphone. he speaks fluent mandarin And before joining Pentatonix graduated premed from Yale. No, it's still Avi, the same bass from Bohemian Rhapsody and Hallelujah. You'll see him in all the videos up until he leaves in 2017, then you'll see the new (not new anymore) bass, Matt Sallee.

Bottom left is correct, Avi (the bass)left. Top right is still Mitch, he's a chameleon, That is Kirstie (sounds like thirsty) or Kirstin. Matt Sallee took avi's place, there have been no other changes in the group. Kirstie is beautiful and only gets prettier with age. Video cost 400 dollars in one of their closets and living room.

Mitch has gained weight and lost weight over time. Daft Punk is early on in their careers. Hallelujah is later and Mitch lost a great deal of weight. He also changes his hair and style of dress. Kirstie is also somewhat a changer of styles, hair color, makeup and more. Scott, tall blonde is the same always. Beatboxer is Kevin and his look does not change either. Avi is bass and his looks remains similar but he left after a few years. His replacement is Matt and you will see him in latter videos.

One thing that will help you with the blocks is to put a filter over the video or to increase the transparency. this will reduce the necessity to pause the video. Other reactors to Pentatonix have been very successful with this method. The reason why Mitch looks so different is that he went on a gluten-free diet to lose a large amount of weight. He was always feeling like a chubby kid most of his life.
