He can use cheat engine and then slow down the video but then itd be like reverse 3kliksphilips technique: In his csgo skin showcase video he slows the game down and then speeds up the footage resulting in something that looks like 240 fps but is instead 60 If he sped up the game then slowed the footage he would get a powerpoint presentation
@@TheRealBatabii Thats how it worked in antibirth. In repentance it can just be activated or deactivated because they took out the increasing chance after getting hit multiple times
@@awe9217 is that a reference to a certain sniper from a certain animation that happens to be about a group of friends going on a journey for the acquisition of pizza?
@@enbybunny9940 I don't think you thought up to the part where The Lost dies after taking any damage meaning he never gets the chance for Damocles to fall.
The story behind the sword is interesting, basically Damocles was complementing his king for his fortunate circumstances with his lavish lifestyle and all his power. His king offered to switch places with him for a day so that Damocles could have a taste of that power and lifestyle, Damocles agreed and took to his new throne, surrounded by every luxury he could ever want for however the king also had a sword installed over his throne to represent his many enemies held by just a single horse hair so that it may strike at any time and evoke the same sense of fear and anxiety in him as his many enemies evoke in the king. Damocles then begged his king to take back his power and free him of his "fortunate" circumstance. Damocles is my favorite item from anti-birth, it's such a cool risk reward item and it is amazingly flavorful and true to the story, hence the "A kings fortune but at what cost" sub title.
I love how some of the clips skip to 3 minutes for damocles proc while other skip to 3 hours. Puts into the perspective how unpredictable this item can be
Honestly if you take this item you're gonna want a Chariot card or a power pill at all times. Then the second you hear that snap you've a split second to activate it or you're dead
The item is a reference to the tale of Damocles, a member of the court of King Dionysus of Syracuse. One day, Damocles was kissing his king's butt, telling him how great and fortunate he was of having so much wealth and power. The king offered Damocles to trade places with him for one day, and Damocles accepted. The thing is, Dionysus was kind of an asshole and had made lots of enemies during his reign. So, in order to remind himself to be always on guard, he had a sword hang over his throne by a horse's hair. So, after a few hours sitting on the throne, Damocles didn't feel so fortunate for all the wealth and power he held.
In the version I heard, the whole thing was more an object lesson on how being a king was not all fun and games, and all the wealth and power in the world didn't protect him from the metaphorical (and in this case, literal) sword hovering just above his head. Hard to enjoy wealth and power with that in mind.
@@powerthunfischdesdonners3086 anxiety can be used as a form of motivation, so in a way, it kinda does give you more good things if used properly, just like damocles.
@@j.hawkins8779 Actually no, losing the sword and respawning is practically worthless if you're only aiming for the stat up you get from reviving. Given that this item is Ultimately high risk and high reward, the moment you get hit you will not know when will that sword fall on your head. This item is practically worthless on pretty much everyone besides The Lost given that the randomness of the sword fall will immediately determine the end of your run as soon as you get hit, and even with the addition of an extra life you practically already lost the benefit of damocles.
@@shinoda522 Correct me if i'm wrong, but any other instance besides having holy mantle, the item Damocles gets considered the killing force. (3:07 where the sword is considered the killing entity, 3:50 where the fly is considered the killer)
@@shinoda522 Makes me wonder what the intended interaction is suppose to be. We may find a bug fix in the future where holy mantle will save you, or there may be a bug fix where it just does the proper death animation.
@@dagazar ihmo the second choice, the idea would be that the sword kill you instantly, and the mantle prevents damage, not necessarily the death. plan C kills you (I remember) if you have the mantle, and also suicide King
Considering the chances of 10000:1 after every four frames the chances of dropping on your head after 10 seconds (presumably 30 frames per second) should be around 1-0.9999^(300/4) which is about 0.7%, not *very lucky* all things considered
@@toranix8836 There are as many graphical frames as your device can process in a second, and thirty logical frames the game uses for internal calculations.
@@MrVentches The scenario I had in mind was getting hit once to break Holy Mantle (which definitely doesn't trigger Damocles falling), then getting hit again, dying, and using a rez item. It's that second hit I was speculating as a possible source of falling.
@@mithiwithi Since getting killed by the sword and dying does not trigger other Damocles, I feel like it wouldn't activate in that way. Though maybe the Damocles killing you is what specifically resets this, in which case the lost could be hit by it.
**NOTE 2** I have revised the test: Damocles will not trigger Panic Button Please watch my new video with the proof: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rNvWNHBHmKU.html **NOTE** As pointed out by some people, the Panic Button + How To Jump test has an issue. I will revise that soon. Thank you guys for that :D
panic button uses the item when hes about to take damage, and since the sword instantly kills isaac like plan c, it doesnt count damocles as taking damage, thats why the trinket wont work when the sword falls on isaac. please correct me if im wrong.
@@scarez3423 originally , if i remember, if you got hit another time afterwards the chance for it to fall would increase, so overall its a trade of stats basically
I am forbidden to take this item for one reason. Last time I picked it up I got hit once and then I instantly died from Damocles... It was such a good run too ;-; edit: IT HAPPENED AGAIN KUZ I GOT IT WITH METRONOME & BOOK OV VIRTUES ARE YOU SERIOUS
Normally seeing two items in an item room fills someone with joy. But in repentance it's like "I am so screwed, this is too good to be true that sword will kill me 100%".
I have to say that the amount of effort you put into this video is amazing. You waited around with the game open for hours just to get a sword to fall to provide physical proof that it does something.
The least and most effort ever put into a video. For one he just has to wait around. But two he can’t play Isaac until he finally finishes all these examples
jacob and esau have such good unlocks but i hate them so much, i was about to get birthright but then i found the secret room in chest and pressed the 2 buttons, literally 10 monstros spawned all at once and i died nearly instantly
No one is commenting on this, but I appreciate you adding the description of the item in the title of the video, as people who forget about the name can search the description, which in turn leads to this video. I don't personally do this, but I know a few that do, and they'll thank you for this.
@Zarozapa CnJ if you making it sound louder than intended you cheatijg if i made the footsteps on cs go louder i wouod be cheating and deserving to be banned, isaac is a single player game so no bans but dont change the fact that its cheating.... However people play as they wish as i said single player game
@@Vinistonesrrr yes the thing is people can cheat in single player games mod to make it harder or whatever it wants, but they can't say they are not doing that tho.. if u changing the sound to be louder u are not playing the vanilla game anymore... and theres nothing wrong with it... i my self mod the sims 3 to have to purchase food instead of the sim purchasing the food on the fridge.. some people may put infinite money or want mmake it easier whatever... i was just pointing it out.
This is my favourite item so far. OP run but the moment you get hit you have a constant worry of instant death, or find a lucky way out. Kind of wish there was a character that started with this, but had no access to immunity from it.
Some Tainted Characters don't work on it, a little handful for the non tainted ones too. At some point of time in the future they will all get a effect
That... happened to me... The only thing incorrect about your statement is that I'm a girl. Lol. I was fighting Delirium and got hit. No worries though because its so late into the run that it couldn't trigger, right? It did. And it did it less then 5 seconds later... At first, I didn't even know what hit me or how I died... until I seen that sword in the will. I stopped playing the game for a few weeks after that. It already shits on my enough with terrible luck that a five second sword of Damocles kill was just the final nail in the coffin.
This is unbelievably powerful for early game when enemies aren't that hard, but also potentially dangerous if you don't recognize when it's going to fall and act appropriately. Having an extra life or invincibility available is important, and later on when you think you have enough items, getting rid of it is vital to your survival because it's harder to dodge attacks, increasing the chance of getting insta-killed. I think panic button and the holy barrier should prevent you from dying to this, it seems like an oversight more than anything.
It should be noted that breaking the Holy Mantle does NOT count as being hit, so the item is basically free stuff as The Lost. That said, losing a life and reviving DOES count as taking damage. So it's important to have more than one extra life (i.e. Dead Cat as The Lost is a great combination with this; 1up!, not as much).
Something else I don't think was covered: Although holy mantle doesn't save you from when the sword FALLS, it DOES save you from activating the sword for the first time. In short, this means taking Damocles at Lost or Tainted Lost has no downsides, as they have no conditions where they could realistically trigger the sword to begin with.
One conceivable scenario for it to kill you as The Lost: - Get and use Damocles - Have a 1Up or other single-use resurrection item - Get double-tapped in a room and killed. It's possible that the hit you take while dying would activate the Damocles kill effect. (I have no idea if this is the case.) This scenario may not be applicable to Tainted Lost, as there might not be any resurrection items in Tainted Lost's item pool.
If my theory is correct, there would be a _very_ remote way for Damocles to kill you as Tainted Lost, but it requires using Spindown Dice or other similar item to spawn the resurrection item, _then_ be killed once with Damocles active after taking the rez item. Someday, _someone_ will surely trigger this sequence of events, but you'd almost have to be _trying_ to do it.
Finding this as the lost is more items and if possible if tainted lost finds its also good too meaning you have nothing holding you back from getting it holy mantle does not activate
So many items in this game have a great concept behind them but nobody will pick them anyway bc the counterpart is bigger than the reward. Only interesting with 2 out of the 34 characters (lost and lost 2). I won't give 2 of my hearts container to play russian roulette in my games no matter how cool this item look.
If I could change something it would be that this item make some sort of very sudden loud noise when it falls, not enought to give you a heart attack or make the player go deaf, but just to make the player flinch like in horror movies.
Just finished a boss rush/hush/Delirium run of 30min with Lazarus with this item, i became OP pretty fast but I was basically speedrunning the game in fear of the Sword. It was pretty fun
3:12 "Dude, I just checked your Steam - you played _HOW MANY HOURS_ of Isaac?!" "Nah, I just went AFK a lot. You see, there's this item called Damocles..."
ok, so two things, 1. Does the book of virtues still let the sword drop? and 2. Do multiple lives still proc? like if i take 9 lives, am i still good or is it just going to ignore them?
1. yes, it can still drop 2. if you have an extra life, you will be revived if the sword kills you. but once it falls, you will not have its good sides anymore
I'm so glad they moved this from the secret room pool to the devil pool. It is such a powerful item for the Lost, and in general. It needed to be made a bit harder to get
