Nice job. Modifying the brand new parts. Bravo. If there was slipping I wonder if you’ll see better fuel economy
@MotorSailingforOldDudes
@MotorSailingforOldDudes 9 месяцев назад
Don't think there was any slip. Think that one just got past its mechanical life and fell apart. The other one was in better condition, but had broken springs.

Great work, well done. I'm a fan of ratchet straps but a good note to self - block & tackle allows smooth lowering

Hello Lord Dude. An excellent video mate. It reminded me of my dad changing the clutch on his Baby Austin A30 back in 1952. I recall helping the old man even though I was a tiny Tacker aged 6 years. Brought back a lot of wonderful memories Dude. Hopefully, you will now have some trouble free sailing for a while. Looking forward to the next episode. *Kindest Regards!*

@MotorSailingforOldDudes 9 месяцев назад
Still intact Dude. But a couple of broken springs. I replaced it.

Hi. What noises or issues were you having with the gearbox please. I ask as i have a noise on my narriwboat from the gearbox, especially in reverse at low revs and wondered if this may be the problem with mine?
@MotorSailingforOldDudes
@MotorSailingforOldDudes Месяц назад
It could be. I am amazed at how quiet my boxes are since replacing the damper plates. The only problem is you have to remove the box to check it.

Should have done the seals while you were there.

Well done Norm. Was the 2nd damper plate as bad? Those new plates look like really good gear from poli-flex. What is there estimated hour life?
@MotorSailingforOldDudes
@MotorSailingforOldDudes 9 месяцев назад
I hope longer than my estimated hour life Dude. The new dampers are a lot less noisy and less vibration. The other damper plate was still intact , although it had a couple of broken springs. Glad I did both.

Any advice on adjusting the shaft seal.? How tight should the stainless part be pushed up to the seal face.?
@MotorSailingforOldDudes
@MotorSailingforOldDudes 9 месяцев назад
No adjustment there Dude. The gearbox seal is a lip seal, press fit into box. No plate to retain it. I checked it very dry. No need to replace. Hope this helps.
@bevantweedie5129

@@MotorSailingforOldDudes I was meaning the stern gland seal. How tight should the stainless part be up against the rubber stern gland . Any advise appreciated.
@MotorSailingforOldDudes
@MotorSailingforOldDudes 9 месяцев назад
Oh sorry mate miss understood. The process is to slide the rotor against the seal and then preload the bellows by about 15mm before tightening grub screws. I think that PSS says to preloaded by 25mm for a 1.25in shaft. I think that is a bit too much. If you're doing in the water, adjust until no leak. If out of water check when you launch and adjust accordingly.

It wasn't as bad. Still intact, but a couple of springs broken. Glad I replaced both.

Hey Norm, oh what fun it is to work in a shoe box, when your knees are each side of your ears while impersonating a contortionist trying to reach bolts, always hoping to minimise skin removal
