Looks like you guys had a great time out there! So cool that you just did a live comparison, I still cant decide if I want to go ultralight or a bit heavier with more comfort on my hikes. Especially with having all the filming gear (tripod, drone, etc.) with me, I tend to stay ultralight. Great video. And just in case you like solo silent hikes, you know where to find me ;) Stay safe out there. Have a wonderful day, Mario

$600 tent, $600 sleeping bag, $200 air mattress, and a $375 pack. For just a shade under two grand, you, too, can backpack like Eric! 😬 Kidding aside, thanks for the reviews. A lot of this stuff is "You get what you pay for ... but you definitely pay for what you get." Good stuff and I enjoy seeing you both talk through it. Keep up the good work. 19:44. Dan says the tent is $500 (March 2022). Less than a year later, that tent is $650. Either Dan was a bit off (totally possible, as he was on the trail and going off of memory) or prices have really skyrocketed. Wow.

The two of you are totally awesome (not to use an overworked phrase). But, it is most appropriate. It is most informative and educational to watch and learn from both of your perspectives. True, there are some personal differences in choices of equipment--but both of your philosophies are the same. Both of you are giving information for the ultimate buyer to decide for themselves what is most appropriate. With the incredible amount of choices available on major backpacking categories, it helps to have you two cut through the "fog." However, making the ultimate buying decision remains a difficult process. It is almost comparable to buying a new car. Please keep up the excellent work! You providing a superlative service to those who are exploring into getting into backpacking, and I'm sure, to those who are already into backpacking.

I had a Big Agnes Copper Spur tent Several years ago. One evening I sat down on the left end of the rainbow tub entry. In the matter of a blink, the tent pulled the tent pole towards the entry, it fractured in several places and tore thru the inner tent and rain fly and collapsed on that end….for sitting on the inner tent entry tub!? Long story short, in disgust it ended up in the trash, (which I thought fitting) and I replaced it with a Hilleberg, which is bombproof/not bearproof, which is another story!) The Copper Spur is fragile.

Ryan, are there other sleeping bags that incorporate the strap system that your thermarest bag has. I know big Agnes has this whole sleep system where it literally wraps around a pad, but that looks like more unnecessary weight. I love those straps though and like that the bag you showed was a tiny bit bigger allowing for that tossing and turning, and also the hood being big enough for your sea to summit pillow. Thanks guys. I follow both of you and Devon from backcountry Exposure who is near you in Utah. Three great channels.

@diotough
@diotough 2 года назад
@@BackpackingTV I know weight ain't everything in a backpack and the Osprey Aether 65 or the Aether Plus 60 are in the same ballpark. Then again, my Bergans Helium v5 55l backpack weighs ~1kg/2.2lbs, has an internal frame, padded and removable hipbelt (together with the toplid you'll have a fanny pack). Obviously you wouldn't want to haul around 45lbs let alone more - the frame isn't made for that kind of loads - but 30-35lbs are still comfortable. Zpacks also have some ultralight backpacks with internal frames on offer well under 2lbs. I had a Berghaus 90+10+10l expedition pack with around the same weight as the Mystery Ranch pack. Of course, at the end of the day as long as you're happy with your backpack and it's comfortable that's all that matters.
