@@stevenichols5708 According to the reviews on Drop, they are the RT version, just the name is different. I hope that's correct, I ordered a pair today for $379.00.
@@DenverDiscovery Hopefully you’re enjoying your AEONS. The RT and the X are the exact same headphone. I was curious last year and contacted DCA and asked. I was told they are the same just branded differently. I have the X closed and I really enjoy it.

Did yoy get your Aeon Closed X? I received mine yesterday and they're way brighter and more bass-shy than my Open X. It's two different-sounding headphones. The Open X were way smoother and had bigger bass right out of the box.
@@ANSWERTHECALLOFJESUSCHRIST interesting! I haven't got the open to compare though I've been really happy with the balance of the closed w/ white felt. They're not bass monsters but for me they give you such a deep look into the music while maintaining richness.
Been looking for a set of close headphones for a while. I’ve heard the Aeon 2 Closed and loved them but for $900 I couldn’t justify their price. Your review combined with a black friday sale made me pull the trigger on a set. I’m excited to hear some Metallica on them. Thanks for the great review.
@@cheapaudioman 15% off. So like $425. Not huge but enough to make me go for it. The Aeon 2 was like $765 but I’m too cheap to spend that on headphones. Think thats more than I spend on my Klipsch RP-280s. Love the channel. I watched a couple of your reviews and was like this guy has the same taste in speakers as I do. Then your love of Metallica sealed it. Share your channel with anyone thats interested in audio.
@@jalsarrelevantchaos8817 That's a solid deal. I think they're good at $500 for sure. $425 is even better. Love Metallica. I go on an on about them in my videos. S&M2 is I think the best that they've ever sounded. Jame's voice has gotten so good over the years. They also did a cover of Would by Alice in Chains for AIC's tribute to the MoPoP museum in seattle. You'd probably dig that.
Thanks for the review... I'm enjoying my Aeon RT's, they sound so much better than other headphones in the price range that usually aim to try to differentiate themselves from the competition by sounding way too harsh in certain areas and weaker in others. Dan Clarks aims to make baseline good headphones and they succeed incredibly at that. This model and other models don't have much of a "unique" signature like other brands, but it gets the job done. It plays ALL song genres well and Dan Clark's tuning is the definition of jack-of-all trades. If you can only afford one pair of headphones that is pricey, get a pair of Dan Clarks.

I have a pair coming to the house, I’ll let you know what I think,..I own a few other pairs Beyerdynamic T5s Audio Technics ATH 70s…and a vintage pair of Koss Pro 4As. As you can see I’m late to the headphone game..I do also have a pair of Monolith 1570s. Coming…I’m trying to stay around the 6-7 hundred expenditure.. oh and I have a couple of Beyerdynamic 770 pros..
I listened to this review and bought the AEON Flow 2. Compared my LCD2c (perhaps different to the LCD1) they sound somewhat muted and very hard to drive. I will be returning them. They are no where near the sound quality of the Audeze.
I bought the LCD 2 and thought they sounded horribly muted in the mid-frequencies; I also listened the LCD3 at CanJam and came to the same conclusion; the LCD2s got Ebayed. I came across the Audio Science Review of the LCDX and surprise, surprise their mid frequency response measured horribly; so clearly this is a common theme for the Audeze headphones: with many reviewers and people who invest in them, it's a case of the Emperors New Clothes. It's refreshing to see the reviewer above telling as it is with the LCD1. I got the Aeon RTs took the pads out and used Amir's parametric equalisation curves (via an RME ADI-2 DAC) for these headphones; the sound is fabulous.
@@davidgriffin79 well you usually need to let them burn in into your brain and also probably if not all audeze headphones need to be eq'd because the mid range sounds really strange
I enjoy these videos because I'm not some crazy audiophile, i just like music. People talk about the cords, soundstage, response, but not normally about how they sound, which for a casual like me isn't helpful. This however gave me a good idea, so I'll probably save up for these, or the drop version which is 20 bucks less and according to reviews is about the same

Would you say that a Monoprice M1060C with some EQ can get close to the Aeon Closed RT? I am a bass-head, but prefer good quality and accurate bass. But I also enjoy some sparkle and air on the top as well, similar to your taste. Thank you.
I am glad I found your channel. I seem to be geared similar to you, so I think I can trust your reviews better. I have the Monolith 565C. Is that the pair you tried? If so, how do they compare to other stuff? Should I bother upgrading?
I have the M565C and after did a little ear cushion swap and moved some things out of the way of the driver they're awesome. These are very very good. If you've gotten everything out of the M565's that you can I don't know if they'd justify stepping up. These are built way better though and have a lot of freedom to dial in your to your taste of your music though.
@@cheapaudioman I am driving them with a Denon DRA-395, which I read from one review had a headphone jack on par with Creek OBH-11 amp. I don't know the power ratings, but I am thinking I could do with a stronger headphone amp to get all the goodie out of them. I'd be interested in the mod you talked about as well.
Randy, How do these compare to your Meze classics? I’d think these would be wholeheartedly better in almost every aspect at the price point right? Thinking about purchasing. The T60 Argons have also piqued my interest as well. Too bad the Sundaras have that bass rolloff…
Dan Clark’s are more detailed and have more tuning options. The meze are more laid back but still detailed. Mezes won’t need a powerful amp. Both are great and I’m holding on to both. There is enough of a difference. If I could only keep one it would be the Mezes though. Just easier to work with and quicker to put on
@@cheapaudioman Im looking for that headphone that makes you want to rediscover your music. Something engaging! Thinking the Meze are more multi-purpose than magical. But maybe they excel with some genres over the Aeon. As always, much appreciate your take on these!
Follow up on my previous post..I now have listened to these ..they max out my Topping 3x pro they are power hungry..they sound really nice. I have the Monolith 1570, and it is better and about the same price..
Are these considered to be a worthy step up in sound quality from the AKG K-361/K-371 cans? Or is it basically the same sound profile with better construction and materials?
Not sure why this is marketed as a portable closed headphone, lightweight, and with a carry case. It's really not because it is power hungry and who wants to have to carry around an amplifier. It's a shame because there really isn't a good closed end portable headphone out there with neutral sound that doesn't need amplification. I don't consider the Focal Elegia portable. Sony MDR1am2 and Audiotechnica or Meze and B and O are nice midrange sound but not in the same league as Dan Clark or Focal. May try just getting some cheap Fostex TR50 and using with a phone even if it doesn't sound great. But not $500. I think I will just have to look for a SonyZ7 and eq down the bass. For $350-400 used I see occasionally it's probably the best out there.
See now thats interesting because I feel the same way about these Sennheiser HD660S cans I picked up. So many seem.to.not be able to praise them enough but eek gads they sound so borng to. I listen to my favorite songs and it's like the fun button is switched off or something.
I know exactly what you are speaking to here. I haven't met a Planar pair of headphones I like enough to purchase. The Ananda covers half the side of my face!! The Audez are simply too ugly, heavy and big to even consider. Most Planars are too big and heavy to enjoy at length, regardless of fidelity. If it's bulky and heavy? Comfort follows out the window for me. I like the Focal high-end headphones. However they too tend to be on the large side and of course way too expensive for my budget. With that said, I could actually learn to live with either their two champions: The Utopia and the Stelia. Everything else under those two just sound cold and bass lite. I will give these Aeon RT a listen. The originals were disappointing for me soundwise. Comfort excellent though.
@@cheapaudioman Never knew why giant planars became an item? Big bulky headphones are just not what I care to do. Grado RS2e with a +2-3db in the 30-40hz range "perfectionize" them for me.
I'm not so sure it is a good idea to start off a review of one product with a description of how much you dislike a rival manufacturer's product. It looks like the product needs someone to make it look good by contrasting it with something you think is bad. I see it a lot on RU-vid and it plants a little seed of doubt about the motivation of the reviewer. If a thing is good there is barely any need to mention a rival product.
