It’s not easy to be at that point the greatest college wrestler to ever lace them up, and then become maybe an even better coach. I first had started wrestling in 1994, and despite the fact that Dan Gabel had not wrestled in basically 25 years. At that point, everyone that I wrestled with was wearing the Gables for wrestling shoes. That’s the equivalent of people wearing Jordans today. And people that never wrestled before. Don’t realize the stress that your body and mind go through. It’s unlike any other sport.

And that was when you had to make scratch weight for the regional and national qualifiers. In college back then, they used to give you the allowance early on in the season, then slowly reduce the pound number until there was none.

Very happy to see the leadership by the legend in this age of wokism.

God save coach Dan Gable in Jesus name. You are a great man and roll model.
