True Story..... My brother and I went to see DH & HHL's and in between songs my brother hollered out a big "Whooooooooo" only to get a remark from Dan stating that "We reserve this time in our show for all the "ASSHOLES in the crowd to speak up!!!!! Fucking Awesome....Then they played back to back "Canned Music" and "News from up the Street"......It was magical!!...He controlled that stage from the minute he started the show till he walked off stage.....I Loved Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks as well as each individual band member.......Sid Page , Jaime Leopold John Girton Including Maryann Price and Naomi Eisenberg ...I was proud to be an early fan......And still am to this day!!! RIP Dan and Jamie!!

I saw one of dan's last concerts. I saw him backstage and he appeared physically impaired, probably very ill, but when he got onstage he never missed a lick and was great and hilarious as usual without even trying to be. What great American original , I wish I could have spent some time with him as one of his original fans

It was an amazing contrast to hear Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks performing in the late '60s, early '70s amid the background of the acid age sound. I personally savored the shows when I saw them because they were great musicians playing catchy stuff, tongue in cheek, hilarious lyrics, skillful arrangements and, of course, the original compositions. The rapport between Dan and the Lickettes was always a gas too. I'll never forget their originality, musicianship and just plain FUN being around when they played. Unique in an era of unique character. Truly unforgettable.

This is Jorma being the generous host, and humble artist. Might be why I would drive 8 hours to watch him play for 1 hour. Dan Hicks left this place so much better for having been here. Via Con Dios.

Dan's voice unlike so many of His contemporaries never deteriorated, the vocal here could easily be from the early 70's, His wit, charm , playfulness with language and ear for a good tune that took Us into the past while keeping Us in the present will be sadly missed. " A Charmer of highest degree".

Pretty dang close to as excellent a voice as He ever had. I only got to see him live once... Hot Summers' day from Hell...over 105° in the gymnasium (folding metal chairs on the floor for seating) no air conditioning..Valley Jr. College 1976... He and the band didn't hit one off note. Consummate performer.

I've heard Dan do this song for 50 years, first with the Charlatans at bars in North Beach and at the Matrix (where I was a part-time doorman in '66 and '67). nice licks, guys!

If this doesn't tear your heart out, you're missing a cog in your works. After a long life I realize this feeling only comes now when I hide from God. Then I scare myself and forget that peace and calm comes from that relationship. That relationship comes free...called Grace. (Not preacing, just responding to the message.) RIP Dan.

Jorma knows his flamenco bolero vibe well, Airline Quicksilver Dead Beck Door and Hicks all used it from the fabulous 60's and we LOVE it. White Rabbit was in this vein.

This is nice and I’m gonna put a but in there...Without Sid Page, his violin solo and just that amazing groove that the original song has it really is a shallow version. Just my opine. I have to tell a story because it is interesting how things work out. About 10 years ago I was listening to I scare myself for the umpteenth time and have always thought that the violin solo was the greatest I had ever heard. I dug around and found Sid Page‘s contact information and decided to call him. I knew I wouldn’t reach him directly but it was worth a try. I was wrong and he picked up the phone. I explained to him that I was simply an admirer of Dan Hicks‘s music and his amazing violin playing which I considered the most wonderful violin piece I had ever heard of. He was very gracious and thankful and said that it was his best violin effort ever and that he had been hoping to someday equal or surpass it, but that day had not happened yet. He seemed genuinely happy that someone would actually acknowledge something that he felt so strongly about.

Great take on arguably Dan's greatest song, certainly his most accessible as a cover. Dan continues to put on excellent live shows. The latest Lickettes do themselves proud and I loved Maryann and Naomi Ruth. Catch him if you can.

The first Hot Lick on Epic was Sherry Snow. Ironically she was offer Signe Anderson's spot before Grace. She turned it down and the rest is history. Love seeing two of the San Fran old guard teaming up for this jam tune.
