We discuss:
- Using Trail Cameras to Monitor Bedding Areas
- How Not to Use Trail Cameras
- Using Trail Cameras For Next Season
- Annual Trail Camera Data
- Q/A With Dan Infalt

Damn damn, Dan. Just open up your own school man. So much of what you say is dead nuts on. In every way. It's uncanny. I could write two pages of why I and so many other hunters, get comfortable hunting the same freaking spot, over and over. And we'll be successful, here and there. Yet we don't even realize, how much more is out there, nor how the big boys (bucks) truly act, perceive us, track us, realize we're there, than wonder why we never get a shot at them. Even though we pick them up on camera. Just amazing, listening to you and learning. Thanks man!

Great video..I agree on some of his answer but disagree on others. I think it depends on the geographical area you hunt and the population of the deer and hunting pressure. I have hunted and ran trail cams in different cities and states and the deer have different reactions to the cameras. I disagree with mounting the trail cam to the tree your hunting. I have never had a problem with big bucks. However, I do agree not putting them by a bedding area and checking them every week.

Dan Infalt is a great big buck hunter. That said, to the average guy that hunts and has a job or a business, a wife and school age children its all but a pipe dream unless you own your own land and a very large tract or in live a remote location with very low pressure and tons of public land. Dan spends more time and days in the woods than the guy I just described, you can compete with this guy when essentially this is ALL he does, his entire world revolves around this. Dan, is the prime example of the 10,000 hour rule, and again the overwhelming majority of hunters simply do not have the time or live in a similar location. Sure he can give you some good tips, but achieving what he has has a LARGE part to play with the TIME he spends and where he lives to begin with.

All great info. But for me, trail cams hurt more than helped. I can't afford multiple cellular models, so I go in, check my cams, run off the mature bucks. So since I don't hunt big racks, but rather older deer, I now just scout for large tracks like Larry Benoit taught. It's not as reliable as a picture, for sure, but I've been impressed by how often the big tracks correspond to sightings. It's not easy distinguishing between 1/8th of an inch, but it can be learned. Now I just let my trail cams sit for weeks or months at a time and look after season or very late in season.

I feel like the camera companies need to make a camera that has a slimmer profile and mame them to look more like a dead branch that comes off a tree or at least a different shape because every hunter can pick out a square in the woods.

I was wondering about making cameras that were theft resistant. Taser equipped and as soon as the thief touches it he or she gets zapped. Or maybe just have a hardened housing that would take a ridiculous amount of effort to get into and a chain to attach it to the tree.
@AlexJohnson7789
@AlexJohnson7789 5 месяцев назад
So, putting a cellular trail cam within 50 yards of my tree stand, 12 feet of the ground, in April, is a "no no"? Seems fine to me. I won't touch that cam again until next spring.

Great stuff, one question though... I just put up some cameras 2 Monday on a property, and it rained plenty Tuesday, will that help eliminate my scent and allow bucks to come back perhaps this Thursday or Friday? Thank you.
@chadsylvester8336
@chadsylvester8336 4 года назад
Great question! In the past we've told people rain showers would help wash away scent but after doing research on the topic we found it to be a very gray area. There have been several university studies that show the ability for an animal to smell scent molecules actually increase with moisture...But when moisture levels get to a point that ability to smell with be decreased. As I mentioned, there a lot of gray area and the question can't really be answered in a few sentences. However, we will be tackling this topic later on in the year after we put together some additional research and data on the topic

That is debatable. There have been several university studies done on scent molecules and how they react in different moisture levels. The data was quite surprising to us. We too used to tell folks to check cameras before a good heavy rain. We plan to cover this topic in much more detail backed by a collection of data later this year.

thats probably because they havent been for sale for a while now and he gets thousands of emails a day about them still after he said time and time again a time frame that he's expecting them. He posts updates on the Hunting Beast and sends an email when they are available. Like he said in the video he practically has 3 jobs. Last time he sold out everything he had in hours. I suggest joining the hunting beast and subscribing to the emails to get updates.

Justin Farrell try your best to correlate where he might be bedding!
@skylars4335
@skylars4335 5 лет назад
using the time stamp to judge distance to the bucks bed and direction of travel from that picture are huge pieces of the puzzle. Combine that with your scouting of known beds in the area and the buck practically loads itself into the back of the truck. haha

@34:00 Dan reflected on how the stands he always kills at never have older, bigger bucks. I am being totally serious when I say that this is probably somewhat because he keeps killing 2 and 3 year old bucks there and so none of them live long enough to grow big racks. We have to think of all the "filters" at play. For instance, people often think big, old bucks had to learn to go live in a swamp. There's some truth to that. But also, if you randomly distributed male fawns throughout the landscape, then you'd find that they ones that happened to be born in a remote swamp would live longer and get larger, without necessarily having special attributes. This is just thinking in terms of "all else being equal" (basis of the scientific method). So, many variables are interacting.

Ur trail cams are way overpriced sucks cuz thay look like a good camera, but a majority of blue collar guys can't drop almost $500 on 2 cameras plus the service when you can go get 2 spypoint cams for $130 and you get 100 pics every month for free for each camera for one of ur cameras are $350 and for the other one is $180 make it make sense
