Thanks for tuning in everyone, and thanks to Dan John for everything he brings to the podcast. We'll be announcing our next live #300Swings session soon. In the meantime, I've got a big box of Dan John DVDs and I'd love to give some away, so listen to the podcast for details on how to win : )

Thank you for the great info Pat and Dan! This gets me thinking about the longevity as my grandfather passed at 71 in 1991 and dad passed a week ago at 70, so it makes me think twice about "toiletbowling" as Dan would say since the %40 that I can control they could've been better at.(especially dad) Appreciate the motivation and always look forward to your combined podcasts!

Thanks for the honesty especially when it gets personal. Unfortunately I'm not technical at all but the joint 300 swing session shared on RU-vid would be ace. How about a discussion around other standers for life e.g. religious (knowing 10 commandments, Lords prayer), home (change light bulb, cook 7meals), finance (have money for the future, surport others) ect

Great conversation as always! For those that don't have access to barbells right now, but have a 16KG kettlebell and bodyweight, what would be the equivalent of the standards mentioned?

Just read your article comparing Stoicism to Christianity and if they're compatible or not. I myself am a Christian. My boss at work recently bought me The Daily Stoic. I started reading it and can see there is definitely some good stuff in there. However, I can't help but find some strong beliefs with the two that directly combat the others. What are you thoughts? Are you still a Christian?

My (admittedly terse) response is whatever you find in Stoic thought you can find better articulated and/or corrected in Christian thought. This is not a mark against Stoicism, however, because many of the greatest Christian thinkers (including St. Thomas) borrow and build upon the Stoics which preceded them. So, there is a process of development and (I would argue) refinement and assimilation. Further, if you take Christian revelation seriously, then to the extent Stoicism does not account for that, it will be severely lacking, incomplete at best. So, you are right to say there are incompatible aspects, such that anybody who wishes to provide a seamless synthesis of the two is engaging an impossible or dishonest project. What’s more, Stoicism is itself disparate, as different Stoics believed different things, metaphysically and ethically. This makes making comparisons difficult; really, you must take it thinker by thinker. For example, some Stoics were pantheists (or possibly panentheists), others polytheists (it would seem, anyway), and others still monotheistic. Undoubtedly, there is a common theme of theism, as many prominent Stoic thinkers - Seneca and Epicetus, for example - had strong beliefs and senses of God. They just didn’t have a very well-developed natural theology. (On the ethical side, natural law, which was strongly taken up by Christian thinkers, has roots in Stoicism, as well, though there are points of divergence here and there.) Anyway, you might want to check out the work of Dr. Kevin Vost. He was an atheist who, by studying and benefiting from Stoicism, eventually converted to Christianity. He has a couple books comparing the two.

Shouldn't pro/semi-pro athletes expect to die earlier because of taxing their bodies. Just like 20+ years military types should expect that as well. This shouldn't shock anyone.
