That's always been my house rule as well. You never know when you'll go. A lot of people young and old pass in their sleep. You don't want the last 3 words said with a loved one to be anything but "I LOVE YOU". Once my son punched me in the mouth drunk late at night and cracked my tooth. I said son tomorrow we'll discuss this but tonight just know "I love You" and he said I love you too Dad. Imagine if I woulda died in my sleep that night without making that clear. He would have felt guilty forever. A good parent bites the bullet for the sake of the kids. The next day we talked. He apologized. Never happened again and he's started his own family and is getting ready to make me a grandpa. My advice to him was never let your family go to bed without saying I love you. He smiled. So did I.

He never won the big one because Marino was a selfish stat chaser. I have been a fan of Miami since the early 70s and loved Marino initially…until he showed what was important to him. Miami brought in Jimmy Johnson, who had just turned Dallas into a championship team. Getting Johnson was huge. He would have taken Miami to Super Bowls but Dan Marino wouldn’t change his game. Johnson asked Marino to change his game, Johnson has spoken about this many times. Marino told him no. Marino didn’t want his stats to suffer. Johnson finally gave up and quit. He has said he quit because of Marinos selfishness. Great QBs are team players and Marino wasn’t. Marino didn’t accomplish anything in Miami and as a Dolphin fan who cares about the team I wish they hadn’t drafted him.

As much credit as people give 1984, he led the league in passing 3 of his first 4 years, 4 of his first 6, he threw 44 TD's in his 4th year. Sure he threw a lot of picks, but with the risks he was able to take cuz he was so good, you knew more often than not that he would beat you with his arm. Great QB...but he cost your team games and never really could take a team to the Promised Land by himself. QBs like Brady and Elway dragged their teams kicking and screaming to the Super Bowl. I started watching the Miami Dolphins in the 1994 season. The thing about Marino at QB was that every game felt winnable. That Marino Magic meant so much for a fan, especially a new fan - to feel that even if the game was going badly there was still a real chance. It got really hard to be a fan in some of the post-Marino years. It felt like the team had gone from always having a chance to never having a chance; that even when they were winning they were going to find some way to blow it.

Brady, Marino, it's a toss between Montana and Brees. You have to put in account it's a different era where passing wasn't even close to what it is today. You could put staubach, unitas, favre, moon, manning, I could keep listing them. It's more a matter of opinion to be honest. But if Marino played today no doubt he would be the best QB in the league. The numbers he would put up would be insane. They way they protect the QB and let WR run free.

Unfortunately probably true. Very few coaches keep their job after a stretch of mediocrity like Miami had 1986-1989, but he'd gotten the team to 5 Super Bowls in 14 years so I can see why there was no hurry to get rid of him. Especially not back then. The hiring of Gary Stevens and Tom Olivadotti as his coordinators in the late 1980s were a big mistakes. I've also heard Don was never quite the same after his first wife died - never had quite the same passion.

This is what saddens me about todays game. Kids wont grow up and see the players we had back before this new era. I dont care what you say those players were built different. These are football players. Aaron Rodgers is probably the last of the old school players. After hes retired thats it. Unless we bring back the old game the new fan will never get to see these once in a lifetime gridiron football player. Sad to say. The NFL is robbing its fanbase. His foundation does incredible work. When his son spoke about it, I could not spot a single thing that said "he seems uncomfortable" or "this guy maybe is neurodivergent?" While a lot of that is due to conditional severity, it has to be said that the amount of polish and comfort in his speaking is superior to most people who do not have a natural aversion to social situations. And since its going against his nature, tis something that has to be taught, and wow did they teach it well. He may not have won a superbowl. Someone that year would, no matter what. Without Dan, all those kids with autism wouldnt have found someone to help them. He won the game that really mattered.

Only 3 players in history threw 5000 yards with less than 400 completions to do it! Mahomes-2018 (383), Winston-2019 (380), and Marino (363)! He is the only QB in history to throw 5000 yards and average 9.0 yards or more per attempt. It goes to show that scheme, Marino's talent and those receivers were able to maintain that average all season! Other than Marino, only Mahomes in 2018 threw 5000 yards with less than 600 attempts with 580. Marino threw 564 to do it as well as 14.0 yds per reception by all of his receivers!

I can't think of another QB who other QBs love as much as Dan Marino. The quickest release I've ever seen, to go along with absurd arm strength. Some of the windows he fit passes into were just mind boggling. Case in point, his throw at 13:18. Just ridiculous. His '84 season is still the best season for any QB ever. And I'm a biased Colts fan who would love to put one of Peyton's seasons above him. Over 5000 yards, 48 TDs, in the 80s! Nobody else threw for even 40 touchdowns until Kurt Warner in 1999. Nobody else threw for 5k yards until 2008 (!!!!) when Drew Brees did it. And this was the 80s, for a coach who up until then was known for his love of running the ball. Truly insane. By the way, he did this all in his 2nd season. And first season where he entered the season as the starter. We haven't seen a debut like that other than Mahomes since. Then he had almost as prolific a season in 86 I believe, over 40 tds again and close to 5k yards, again. The fact he never won a super bowl is an absolute tragedy. He deserved it, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

Dan needed a top running back that he could hand the ball off to to chew time off the clock and give his defense a rest. Many times he scored so quickly, the defense didn't get a lot of rest. Also, it is a crime that the Steelers had a chance to take the home town kid and passed on him. If they drafted him and he failed, you can point to his college days and say who would not have taken a chance on him.
