Dan Patrick reacts to comments made by Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd comparing Luka Doncic to some of the NBA's all-time greats, such as Michael Jordan and Dirk Nowitzki
No one is hating him, He's not better than Dirk at this point in his career. It's way easier for Luka to score these points then it was for Dirk. Put Luka in the west in 2001 I can guarantee you he dosent crack 50
@@ChrisP-in8qrluka is a 6.8 point guard that has elite court vision in any generation and has ball handling skills and has every shot in the book in his repertoire. He can post up, floaters, fadeaways, pull up, step back , he can Finnish through contact. He can definitely score in any era.
@lawrencedanao7648 sure he could score in any era, but not 35ppg. He's soft, always hurt, he only plays 60-65 games per season. The 2000s West would retire him quick
@@ChrisP-in8qr he’s always hurt because he’s carrying his team every night. Haven’t you seen the mavs play? Kyrie and half the squad is always out. Luka is literally has to go superman mode to win or stay competitive. compare his minutes to any other superstar in the league.
Luka is just a great scorer ? You are exposing yourself man. Luka is one of the best passers if not the best passer in the world. He also is one of the best rebounders for his position/size to ever play the game. One of the best playoff performers so far. If he never gets to another finals he will still be a top 30 player ever
b-b-but he doesnt have any rings 🤓. its easier to score nowadays defense is dead, remember when wilt got that 100 and kobe that 81? now that was some real defense! and well luka? he's just a statpadder
If luka was black they be kissing the floor he walks on. Jokic has the right idea. Use the nba to make money and get out. If you’re not the right race the nba isn’t for you
@@garyoakham9723BS. Luka is a stat padding fraud biggest hype job in nba history and certainly the worst defender that's ever been in tje nba. Joker on the other hand is the real deal and already one of tje greatest ever.
Literally everyone ins the NBA is so lucky that Kobe isn't here to mentor Luka on the way; he would be even more of a monster than he is right now. He will get there eventually; but he would have had a major boost with that influence. You could already tell when Kobe was with us; he had an interest in Luka. (Man started learning Slovenian with the quickness; and he's always been multilingual to his credit. )
The hate for Luka is insane. The kid just dropped the most efficiect 70+ game in NBA history w/ a TS% of 91%.... & almost had a Triple Double while doing it. To act like a Luka/ Gianiss/ Embied/ Joker/ Dame/ Tatum etc. wouldn't dominate back then is insane. The skill level has increased SOOO much. This revisionist history is comical at this point
Luka plays defense, tired narratives like this being spewed on the daily is probably why Jason Kidd felt the need to go out on a limb like this. Btw Dirk also said Luka was better than him first hand.
The same guys will claim every star in the league is better then Luka because he is the only one that plays no defense and now say that Luka's offense isn't impressive because no one plays defense. So does everyone else play defense or does nobody play defense because their contradicting anti Luka narratives make no sense.
MJ was 28 yrs old when he first made the NBA Finals. Not 30s. But, yes, it did take him a long time before the Bulls got there. The Bucks, Celtics and Pistons were in their way in the playoffs during the '80s and 'early '90s.
@@ChrisP-in8qrthe mavs aren’t the Celtics lol. Think about the argument you just made: bird had 2 rings by the time he was 28 after 5 seasons so Luka ain’t even bird, completely ignoring that bird was four years older than Luka is and was drafted to a team that was in title contention the second he was drafted with multiple all stars. In that case Jordan and lebron weren’t sniffing bird either because they were both ringless. Except they were and just didn’t have the roster around them. Players who have squad around them early can win rings and it doesn’t necessarily make them better than players who don’t have the help to win rings for the first chunk of their careers. Terrible argument
TBF, The Celtics were pretty bad, too. Bird was a lottery pick for Boston in 1979. Celtics were coming off 2 losing seasons, no playoffs. 1977/1978 and 1978/1979.
In other words Luka has been so great in his first 6 years, wwait, 5.5 years in the league that anything he achieves now is expected. This is what Kidd is talking about. Many things Luka has achieved before 25 weve never seen before. His name is cemented with the all time greats in so many categories and he suffers from not having much help year after year. Yes, when we talk about Luka, we compare him to all time greats now. He isnt there yet having not won anything, but he has achieved so much at such a young age. Translation: he has been so great that everyone is now desensitized to what he does. Can you imagine if it was lebron or AD that scored 73/10/7? The narrative would be so different. Whats hilarious about peoples reaction is DIRK has said multiple times on record that Luka is already better than him. In that sense kidd is spot on. And nobody has picked up the fact that he quoted kobe. We need to stop taking him for granted and just appreciate greatness.
@@ChrisP-in8qr are you saying that Luka isn't a better player individually than what dirk was? When J Kidd said dirk couldn't do what Luka does was he lying? Dirk won a chip in what I think is among the top two most impressive chips in NBA history. No doubt dirk achieved more but it took him until 2011 to do it. But Luka is definitely a better individual player than dirk that shouldn't be controversial.
From an offensive talent standpoint - he's right on. Luka is amazing - he has almost the same intuitive touch for shooting (in terms of altering the trajectory of shot) as Curry - but he's 6'8 225
I think Jason Kidd is right the talent is there and the numbers he puts up in the regular season and in the playoffs are all time great I think he’s saying once he gets accomplishments he’ll be in the conversation and he is right. Just because he is comparing that does not mean he is there now
Luka is in his 6th year and has averaged at least 27 7 7 since his 2nd season. The kids numbers are even better in the playoffs, the only thing holding this kid back is his teammates lack of talent. Once he gets help that aren’t always injured, watch out. 😅
He had Steve Nash... Michael Finley next to him to start his career. Luka never had this talent around him. He had J Kidd, Terry, Chandler in the finals run. Dirk never had help considered the Spurs or the Kobe-Shaq teams. But can you compare Luka's teams with GSW, Clippers, Suns, Denver? Hell even OKC turned have now more talent than the Mavs@@ChrisP-in8qr
@splev8111 stop it, Dirk had young Nash and Finley, Dirk had an Old Jason kidd and old Tyson Chandler. Luka is literally playing with a prime Hardaway and Irving. Nice try though
WHAT HE SAID IN THE ATMOSPHERE....AND HE ALSO SAID AT 24.....DID LEBRON OR MJ HAVE A TITLE AT 24 OR YEAR 6.....NO... SO....WHAT THE HELL U TALKIN BOUT.... HIS NUMBERS AT 24 & YEAR 6 MATCH OR CLOSE TO WHOEVER U WANNA NAME.....PERIOD
The players were more physical in the past I agree. But we have to acknowledge the players are much more skilled in this era. Luka and Kyrie can dribble and maneuver their body better than any player before 2000. And Luka shot 75% for the field when he scored 73
@@ChrisP-in8qr As opposed to Dan Patrick? Yeah. Patrick is an utter shill that pushes the Championship Narrative; thus, in his mind, Dirk Nowitzki is untouchable as an "all-time great" based off of one title (meaning that guys like Doncic and Barkley are way beneath Dirk). Absurd.
@ChrisP-in8qr That's Patrick's logic. You hear it here, and he pushes it all the time: if a player lacks a championship, then he is automatically inferior, and therefore cannot be considered on the same level as a great that has a title. That's a huge amount of the argument against Luka currently. And it's what's used historically against guys like Barkley in all-time comparisons. Dan is another media mouthpiece that is obsessed with this narrative.
Dudes is weird. The fact that they can't understand context is amazing lol Luka is a generational talent. Not everyone gets that title. But they pick and choose what to validate to fit a narrative.
I love Dan but he should probably leave basketball commentary to somebody else. Everything Kidd said is right and to say Luka is just a great scorer is insane. Luka is the best passer of all time and is way better overall than Dirk ever was and its not close even though Dirk's championship run was one of the best ever. Dan Patrick was way off with this take
JK idea was about a potential and tallent, showing example of Luka's early achievements. Not comparing their overall acomplishments. This is so obvious. Why do you even try to speculate on such stupid assumption? But I wonder why any appreciation of Luka's plays gets such a negative response... And why puting this 73 achievement to trash, while Kobe's and by others were magnificent? And this JK's statement was not from Luka... He is not comparing himself to greats, on the contrary, he is always glorify these great players... So, talk about JK, not Luka....
Luca is fourth in assists this season. He’s averaging almost a triple double while scoring 34 points at a very high efficiency. Is 73 point game he shot almost 60% from the field.
Agreed with most here. Luka isn’t just “a great scorer.” He’s also a great passer and rebounder and gets a good number of steals. I thought Kidd was a little stupid with the Dirk stuff. Disrespectful to the ex-Mac. Luka is definitely not MJ or LBJ! Not yet. But he’s only almost 25.
This narrative that some clowns keep repeating over and over that he doesn't play defense is just bs, which says that these clowns who claim that don't even watch the games.
I remember the days where a guy scored 50 and it was the top news on sports center...now we just expect guys to do that and are not even surprised when they do.
The 1st time you &others say anything negative about Embiid would be the first time. And Luka is arguably the greatest rebounder ever at the PG position &he's a special passer, to not be impressed w/ 70 is a bit crazy to me DP. Lets not act as if Luka didn't lead the Mavs to the conference finals, exactly where Jordan was stuck for many years. You're talking bout Luka as if he can't make the playoffs or gets swept in the first round
Isn’t that hypocritical to say Luka doesn’t play defense but wants to say he couldn’t have done that back in the days when fouls weren’t called. Look how big the guy is he possibly could have been the best defensive player. Who knows, let’s go with the way the game is played today. He chooses when to play defense because he knows the only way to win for the mavericks is to play the whole game
This guy doesn't watch full games or doesn't understand basketball or he's just one of them "in the good old days everything was better" which ofc is not true.
Btw luka has more steals than embid and jokic so far this season he has way. More points than jokic and more assists than embid. Never ducks smoke and btw got 18 rebounds the other day despite being about 5 inches shorter than those other 2 so relax and he's like 5 years younger. I think kidd is speaking on potential and.dirk said himself luka is better
I dont know how people that never played a game or played with or against dirk, MJ and LBJ can comment on the words of HOF player currently a coach that won it with dirk and was an elite PG ..like how man what are you accolades in basketball to give you that right to hate on a player...still there are players that will yalk nonsense lik shaq butbthe non basketball people are off the chain
As someone who's 52 & saw MJ in person in the late 80s & across the 90s... in today's NBA, Michael Jordan would average 50 _easily._ And he'd average that bcuz Jordan was all about proving his dominance over everyone else
Things have morphed away so much from true star power being equated with being directly responsible for winning league titles and world championships. Now its all about individual production and performance. Let Luka win at least one NBA title before you bow down and worship him as Jason Kidd and others are falling all over themselves doing. Let Luka win titles before you crown him as being an 'all-time great' and btw Coach Kidd your predictions might be nothing but garbage until they might really come true.
Luka is just too good, guys who live their lives in past and worship their idols or even themselves can't be rational enough to admit that someone catches or even surpases them. But, hey time is on Luka's side...
These takes are just ridiculous. Luka is a better talent and playmaker than Dirk. Also, Jason Kidd won that title with Dirk, so his take has credibility.
I love Dirk, but in my opinion, Luka is a better all around talent than Dirk individually. At just 24, Luka is maximizing his talent and still ascending. Jason Kidd is sending a message to management to bring in more talent to surround Luka in order to contend for a title. Thanks for your comment.
more doncic slander I see. Read between the lines folks he’s trying to get the front office to get more talent to not waste his years. He’s talking about potential morons.
What do Luka and Charles Barkley have in common? They both have racked up some individual stats that make the headlines but neither has won a NBA championship ring. Luka might still win won but he ain't done so yet, has he?
Luka is definitely better than Dirk....as good as Dirk was...at least skill wise...and Dirk was never a killer competitor, at least for most of his career...before he won his first title he was generally regarded as soft and i would agree 💯 percent.
What waste of breath..........opinion on the semantics of comments of Coach Kidd.....Kidd was obviously talking about Luka's talent (which is easily better than Dirks and not without comparison to MJ, Kobe or Lebron). Cherry picking different aspects of how players can be judged (including stats and accolades) is how a passive aggressive hater steers the narrative. CLOWN.
this guy is comparing Dirks entire career to lukas 6... is he serious?? Luka is far and away better than dirk when u compare their first 6 yrs. Mind u Dirk got his first ring at 32
Kidd is right. We all know Luka will dethrone Jordan from GOAT. What Luka can do with a ball Jordan can only dream of.This guy is trying to keep Luka down as long as possible. Instead of being thankful for having him in the NBA and enjoy his show.
Dudes…MJ got the league to change the way fouls were called. MJ wasn’t double teamed the way Luka is as well. Kobe’s 81 point game, he wasn’t even double teamed. 14 of his points were in garbage time when they were ahead by double digits
Jordan 11 time first team all NBA, 9 time first team all NBA defense. conversation over. Luka will NEVER be a first team much less honorable mention all NBA defender.
@@ChrisP-in8qr Chris, I ain’t looking for help. I’ve worked for an actual NBA team, been around. Where’s the double team when Jordan pushed off Ehlo? It didn’t happen. I can give countless examples. By the way, league rules prohibited double teaming. If you went to double team someone but didn't go fully and quickly, or hedged it then that was illegal defense. If you dropped below the free throw line when your opponent was outside the 3pt line, that was illegal defense. This was eliminated with the legalisation of zone defenses in the early 2000s. Luka is doubled twice as much as the next Man. It was considered an illegal defense, and teams playing would get a technical foul if caught, which means free throws. During Jordan's prime, these were some of the defense rules: Looking at these rules, we can see that one of the biggest changes is that zone defense was not allowed.
@@Joeshiesty286 Not saying he’s not a great player but he’s not there yet. Bird did it all and he won 3 rings and went to the finals 5 times in an era where they actually played defense.
Dirk didn’t win a title. THE MAVS WON. MJ didn’t win 6 the Bulls won.. that narrative is so ridiculous. Magic and Bird were the only 2 all timers to win out the gate. Y’all caught up on the past. They hate to acknowledge Mike was a stat chaser for 7 years
It's harder to play defense when guys can score from well beyond the 3 pt line the way they can today. You can't have a rim protecting/enforcer just guard the paint like you could in decades past. Pretending that there aren't way more people that can just score unconsciously in the league now is just wrong.
And therein lies the problem, defenses didn't have the threat of the 3 point shot like today, they could just pack the paint and make it more difficult to acore inside. Start hitting 3s like Curry in the 80s and they'd be stretched so thin they'd be lost. Give LUKA his just due
@@cortezfishback4687No one was allowed to shoot like that back then. You have to admit, when Curry misses one of those long-bomb threes, he looks idiotic (as does his team for allowing him to). It's certainly not fundamental "team" basketball, the way many of us view it.
Nice slight on Lebron 😂. Lebron played defense for a long time. He used to be a ball hawk you did not want to meet Lebron at the rim. Hes 40 now. Sheesh
Talentwise he's almost up there but the thing is he doesn't know to play offball and ballhogs all the time and he can't win playing like that..untill he wins never ever mention his name with the GOAT MJ..imagine Mike playing today with no defense and with a 3 point shot??? OMG he would score from 45-50 I guarantee..Let me tell you something if Jokic would hunt shots like these guys do and play only to score with his eff. he would brake the code for scoring but Jokic is all about winning..never mention nobody's name with MJ especialy before they win anything
He is better than Dirk, especially when Dirk himself is saying that. He is not talking about players careers. Like Lebron is better player than MJ, all-around most complete player. Career wise he is not better.
Dirk is the GREATEST player in Mavs history. Period. Dirk is the best international player in NBA history, 2nd only to Hakeem. Luka has a long way to go.
@skippychurch2965 a 24 year old Dirk was already avg 25ppg and 10rpg. In an era where Luka would piss himself if he had to go up against Bruce Bowen 4 times a year plus the playoffs. Nice try though
