Lifelong Iowa fan and alum, and I’m so astounded and happy to hear of girls and parents from all over the world who adore CC. We were ridiculously lucky to have her at the U of I. I actually attended the Final Four this year, so I got to see her last college game. 😆
@EetsBack I disagree. There's nuances the average person doesn't know. I'm no prodigy, I just want to improve the average. Stop blindly defending ignorance my guy.
As someone who grew up in Indiana & still lives here, the excitement for her being drafted & coming to play here is palpable... especially among young girls into sports. Everyone's talking about her, but those of us with daughters who play sports are really feeling her impact. Even the local suburbs of Indy are vying for her to live in their communities. There's multiple mayor's & local political figures putting out social media posts & local sports radio spots trying to entice her to pick their city to settle down in... there's not been this much excitement since Peyton Manning was drafted
@sulleys Let me know how much they cost when you get them. If you're going with Hawkeye shoes, expect $400+. I don't know what her Fever shoes will be.
Ms. Clarks’ Gifts and demeanor brought me back to this sport. I was raised in the outskirts of Los Angeles watching the clash of Titans Bird and MJ, then the Jordan era.. since then it was mediocre. I would tune in and watch Kobe and early Lebron , but only the highlights or last game clips at the finals. Then I stumbled upon a highlight reel of a pretty and humble brunette in a Hawkeye jersey, passing like MJ, assisting like Bird and draining shots from the parking lot like Curry on his best night. I thanked almighty God that moment for the gift he gave us ,of the splendor of hardwork and a dream in Caitlin Clark. There is hope in basketball and I am blessed to be alive to see it. Go Fever!! 🤒🙏🥰 Hawai’i is Watching.
Yeah I was confused by the title. How is signing the most popular figure in women's basketball a "genius move"? Thats what Nike does, they sign popular sports stars. Thats like saying Doc Rivers made a "genius move" by starting Giannis. Like what else would you do if you're in that space? A genius move would be signing an unknown for cheap that turns out to be a star.
Love you Dan. Love that you and your crew are highlighting Women’s BB, women’s sports, the WNBA. A couple key points: 1. collegiately, Women’s BB players cannot enter the WNBA until they play 4 years, or age out @ 22. *Check recent comments from Gino. 2. WNBA play 40 games. There are still DRAMATIC salary disparities, however let’s keep context in the discussion. ❤
The ones that Caitlin has worn most of the time is a Kobe shoe. I went online hoping to buy a pair, but they're no less than $400, and I even saw a couple of places had them over $500. I ended up getting a Kevin Durant shoe for $100, and it's pretty similar to one of the many different shoes that Hawkeyes wear.
Well all the other Auto Companies had a FAR bigger Head Start on Tesla. Now look a them. Women will drive just about all type Cars but most won't support the WNBA. Hence the Real Problem.
@@TheNichq You not knoweth of what you speak. Google "Why the Sabrina 1s are taking over the NBA shoe game" and you'll see that's it's actually one of the hottest shoes around, even in the men's game.
Many people are up in arms that A'ja Wilson doesn't have a shoe-- but we have to remember that CC has a MAJOR impact and audience on young women/daughters who want to wear this shoe for basketball. I think that A'ja needs a casual NIKE shoe for off court use-- I could see a lot of young women buying Clark's shoe for basketball games, but the older generation (who was there and watching before Clark came along) purchasing WIlson's casual kicks. Can we do both??
If the WNBA start making money, they should share their profit with the players. Players should get a bigger cut of profit than 10%, without players, there wouldn't be a league.
You know she’s the type of person that will be extremely visible within the community and while I doubt she directly donates her checks, she will donate plenty in both time and money.
Nike wise to corral CC before their competitors. Hopefully, HER shoe will be easily recognizable/flashy so girls would love to be seen in them walking or playing.
@@stuartu7150 Many of the NBA players love the Sabrina shoe. ESPN did a nice article on it. Because we can't post actual links, just Google "Why the Sabrina 1s are taking over the NBA shoe game" for the ESPN piece.
cant wait for her basketball shoes to drop. iam getting one. such a huge fan of her, she is the reason i started watching women college basketball and now about to start watching wnba because of her. but so sory for the other wnba teams cause iam only tuning in when her game is on.
@@bmrigs It's not like wearing a shirt or something. they're sneakers. I have a theory about wearing shoes that support women's sports. I think my man card is in good standing.
I was hoping anyone would make a deal with her but Nike. I don't want my daughter seeing an add with her and possibly a man claiming to be woman. I said this on another video, the vets would be smart to support Clark maybe even give her extra space first year try to get more people watching hoping that fans stay, and they can cash in.
This contract is actually a Bargain the amount of free press they got just for signing her is already Paid off, and if she brings the WNBA to any new heights in popularity will be even cheaper i hope her agent got a percentage deal on there somehow
After NIKE promoted her and courted her with those free shoes and stuffs in college? Yea, she is sticking with NIKE. Smart for NIKE started engaging with her early on.
8-Figure endorsement. Serena Williams Signed a $40 Million deal with Nike in 2003. Sabrina Ionescu's deal was $24 Million. My guess for Caitlin? $50-75 Million.
The reality is revenue/ad dollars along with exposure are driven by men. And, no, I'm not a man hater. It's a fact that women's sports have been suppressed by men. What changed the tide in WBB collegiately was a short IG &/or TikTok video on the disparity of where women vs men were staying during the NCAA tournament along with merch received. It caused such outrage and gave much needed focus to the sport. The WNBA doesn't deserve the same salaries as the men. However, as the revenue and exposure grow so too, will the salaries. Thankful for breakout stars and the present attention given to women's sports in general.
I recall the publicity around women's soccer in the 1990s, drawing like 85,000 to the Rose Bowl then! Because women's soccer in the rest of world is still catching up 30 years later due to the horrendous sexism abroad, even in England and France. And Nancy Lopez in golf in the 1970s/80s. Also, I predict Clark will become more of a point guard, with fewer rebounds and layups, but more assists, steals, improved defense; and remember, she'll have much better teammates to feed who are bigger scoring threats, have more quickness, leaping ability, better hands to improve her assist numbers. As a comparison, consider the Balkan's NBA players who've made triple doubles the norm. They've upped their assist numbers as they've aged.
As much as I love Cait I don't think she alone will make the WNBA more relevant. But I think she "and" the rest of the top picks in her class -- Reese, Cardoso, Brink, Edwards -- can create some much needed rivalries between teams/cities that can spark sustainable, long-term interest.
The WNBA isnt watched because people just dont want to watch. The players dont really matter. Clark is a great player, but shes not that much better then the girls already in the league.
@@TheNichq Beg to disagree. By her very presence Clark is changing the WNBA. Tickets for all Fever games are already being sold out. I suspect video viewership will follow suit. One can argue whether it's sustainable and strong enough to fuel league expansion, because if the WNBA doesn't expand it will eventually die, but she is single-handedly boosting interest in the league to unprecedented heights.
That over under would make her a top 5 scorer in the league in 2023. Im taking the under. Shes gonna be great but remember Kelsey Plum was also a great scorer. Took her some time to break in the league
Caitlin's Nike contract allows her to not have to play overseas to make actual money. Good for her. I'm curious how many men will buy and wear her shoe. It's probably going to be a lot.
If Sabrina Ionescu is the current best selling nike women's 🏀 brand shoe before Caitlin Clark who was the best selling nike shoe in men's 🏀 before Michael Jordan
NBL: wNBA vs mNBA wNBA regular season is 40 games. mNBA regular season is 82 games. (‘Simpleton’ math says average wNBA salary should a bit less than half the average mNBA salary, but there are some other relevant factors.) wNBA 2023 regular season total attendance- 1,587,488 mNBA 2023 regular season total attendance- 22,538,518 wNBA 2023 regular season total revenue- 200 million dollars mNBA 2023 regular season total revenue- 10.58 billion dollars As good as Catlin Clark is she still not good enough to rescue the wNBA from relative obscurity. Adopt a wNBA veteran for only $18.99 a month.
Why not, a young woman like Caitlin Clark, is probably a once in a generation type phenomenon. She brought an interest into women’s college basketball, yet alone actually breaking scoring records. Nike signing her and releasing a shoe with her name on it, bang bringing it out, and if they do the advertising right, Nike will be making money.
Signed with Nike ? Does this mean she'll be making cheap MLB jerseys in a Chinese Sweatshop ?? She's got pretty long fingers. Hope they don't put her in the tiny lettering crew.
