The play in 1997 was designed for Jordan, but the option was to pass to Kerr as soon as MJ was double-teamed. The play wasn’t designed for Kerr. Kerr was Plan B not Plan A.

I think Scottie needs to understand Clint Eastwood’s (Dirty Harry) maxim “A man has to know his limitations.” How many last second shots did Pippen make in his career? One. How many did Kukoc make in 93-94 BEFORE the Knicks? Three. Obviously Pip is a sensitive guy and cannot accept he was never “all world”. I loved his play and talent but his not taking responsibility for that 1.8 seconds is just too much

He didn’t say Jordan designed that play he said the play was designed for Jordan…Scottie calls Jordan selfish but he soon forgets that he was the one that was pointing to his Jordan shoes and making the finger gesture to come back…very weird

@@jayzee316 - No, that’s incorrect. Jordan didn’t “defer” to Paxson or anyone. He dribbled the ball up and was pressured at half-court. He passed the ball to Pippen, who passed it to Grant, who saw Paxson wide open for three. The play was NOT designed for Paxson. Watch the video.

I just watched Scottie’s hall of fame speech and MJ inducted him…he thanks Phil as being the greatest coach…he was at Jordan’s wedding…it’s all very big head scratcher…I’m sure it has to do with payback for his portrayal in the Last Dance….has to be I assume

Pippen is a bitter little man. Signed a bad contract that evryone told him was bad, never got over it. Throwing around the racist tag in 2021 is not something that should be done lightly. This kind of crap hurts the cause.

@@Vic-Vega I don't listen to a lot of other content outside of sports because current events are not overly uplifting most of the time. I love Patrick and Eisen within the sports media because they are thoughtful and measured. A lot of the others in sports media are hot take artists, so I really enjoy listening to those members of the sports media who produce thoughtful, interesting, and entertaining content.

@@dianetincher5596 That's fair. Try Marc Maron or James Andrew Miller sometime (Bret Easton Ellis is my fave, but he's mostly paid). Great interviewers, although they're mainly entertainment-based. Not too much political or economical discussion (which I agree is depressing).

What this really highlights is the ultimate price/sacrifice of winning. So many harbored feelings over so many years, championships, across all sports but all stay silent for the legacy of winning. So curious to see someone like Brady in 10-15 years when that eventual 30/30 comes out

Mentioning Pippen’s contract was integral to understanding Pippen’s tension with Bulls management.

That’s a great point. The contract is definitely one of the things that was at the core of their acrimonious relationship. That, and the fact that Krause treated all of his players like they were easily replaceable. Krause saw Pippen as replaceable by Toni Kukoc and Tracy McGrady. He also thought Stacey King would eventually supplant Horace Grant. Look at Elton Brand. Krause thought he could be replaced by Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler, so he traded him despite posting 20/10 averages during his first two years with Da Bulls.

In Scotties defense, he is known as the robin or the sidekick, when you say the word. He's a h.o.f. top 50 player and everytime a basketball fan sees him he gets a Jordan question and it's been 30 years and last summer it started all over again. How would pippens legacy be if he won or even made it to the finals with Portland that year against the Lakers. Scottie pippen has always been one of my favorite players but lately wow. Even Jordan himself said " when they speak Michael Jordan they should speak Scottie pippen, there would be no Jordan without pippen" I mean I think there would of been Michael Jordan no matter what, maybe not 6x champion but still be Michael Jordan no matter what or where in my opinion.

He had every opportunity to do something with Houston and Portland, but he didn’t… that’s why winning it all consistently is so hard. MJ had the will & ability to find a way to make it happen. Pippen couldn’t with a very talented roster in a Houston & Portland

Pippen was one of my favorite players all time growing up, but man it hard to watch him like this the other day. MJ was right in The Last Dance - Scottie will never be able to live down that Knicks incident 😐 And credit to dan Patrick for being a great interviewer

Word to the wise: any sports teams you loved as a kid....don’t watch any documentaries or interviews with players after you turn 30. Your memories will get stained....rusted.....rotted. Don’t watch re-runs of your favorite tv shows. Never meet a band member of your all time favorite band. None of that....just let those wonderful memories live forever as they are and as they were.

This racism topic is part of the reason casual fans are fleeing NBA games in droves..... it coincides with the Joe Biden era "turning off the media" to a degree as well IMO..... The NBA is getting lumped in with that void of viewer exhaustion ~folks are just turning it off..... I could see if he wanted to do some tell-all media campaign but he was only trying to promote his bourbon and some popcorn. DP cannot say anything too bad about Scottie here since Scottie was his guest. It was upto Scottie to lay his case. Scotties reasoning is what it is from what we saw at the interview. If he had better reasons, he would have bought it up. Btw, have you ever had a loving relationship with a racist before? Both MJ and Kobe who are black men have had very strong relationships with Phil. Michael Jordan was REAL silent back in the day when it came to activism and sticking up for BLACK FOLKS. So I believe it when it comes to his involvement in knowing Phil was RACIST.
