I grew up in the 80s and I LOVED the NBC baseball game of the week. Such a great time to be a young baseball fan. Wonderful memories.

Why is the MLB baseball so much harder to grip than a regular baseball? Why does MLB keep changing the baseball? No other sport changes the ball

It's not. Just easier to throw 98 with some tack. This is why they banned substances other than rosin. This is a stupid discussion. Lifetime ban for cheaters. Cheaters will get better and/or go away.

Props for the Ray Scott homage Bob. Ray Scott and Pat Summerall is my favorite NFL broadcast team of all time. NBA-wise I grew up listening to Chick Hearn and Lynn Shackleford calling Laker games ... Wilt the Stilt ... Elgin Baylor ... Jerry West ... Happy Hairston ... Pat Riley ... man, the memories.

@@3ebguy Right. I don't mind occasionally seeing Nolan Ryan or Bob Gibson whiff 16. But when I watch 6 different nobodies wander out of the bullpen and collectively fan 16, the dominance of the big strikeout game loses a lot of its appeal, not to mention that the ball is not being put into play.

I heard the idea of limiting the shifting. I like that idea. I also think there should be some legal substance for all pitchers, just have equal footing. Bob Costas is a wise baseball analyst. Maybe the best. And Eisen is great.

I am 48 and I still miss the NBC Saturday "Game of the Week". NBC did it better than anyone. FOX does a good job, but it pales in comparison to the NBC games of the 1970's and 1980's. Costas was wrong, though. ABC had "Monday Night Baseball" so technically there were TWO national baseball games broadcast during the week.

You are simply ignorant. Rosin isn’t enough. This has been well known for decades. You’re defaulting to the rosin bag because it’s always been there, but it’s *not* enough especially in cold climates when moisture is difficult to find.

Pitchers only need more grip to allow them to throw harder. Take away the extra grip and they have to throw within the natural limits of their body.

Exactly! If you can’t control where the ball goes you’re throwing too hard and need to,pull it back some. Instead of 95 you throw 90 and pitch rather than just throw. There is no skill in MLB anymore.

Wouldn't the same apply to hitters using things to grip the bat? Take away grip enhancers from them and they aren't all swinging for the fences every swing.

I love Bob, but I hate his hitter bias sometimes. I hate how he brushes off the steroid era as “but you could make an argument it was more entertaining.” It shows where his head is at and why he favors PED users in the HOF. I love you Bob, but I vehemently disagree.

Baseball keeps losing any relevance... and can't seem to figure out it's a combo of too much/slow, the fact everyone else realizes "unwritten rules" are stupid AF, oh, and a non stop history of cheating. Which is a shame, as it's fun to play, a great way to spend a summer evening, etc.... but it's an afterthought, culturally, now.
