I bought them after watching this video. I bought 5 IEM's thinking.... maybe IEM's just suck. They all seemed to have high upper mids that KILLED my ability to listen to them. I bought these on your recommend and based on the recording you had. I got the KQZ x HBB and Tangzu x Divinus Fudu Verse 1. I didn't hate the KQZ HBB, but I didn't really love them either. The Fudu is the best one so far. FINALLY something that doesn't kill my ears. I like them a lot. I can't see myself spending 2k on the Fatfreq, I just can't justify 2k for tiny speakers.

Why not go for Blon x z jojo or Seeaudio rinko one of them is warm and other one is agressively bass heavy. Maybe one of them might suit you

Something that's worthy of note is that these IEM's transformed entirely after changing to a balanced cable (I use a Tripowin Zonie). The spiky treble was gone, as well as the muddy bass that bled into the mids. I have never seen such a huge change from a cable switch before.

Man, this FUDU goes toe to toe with MP145. For me, some tracks goes for one and some goes to the other. Oh, QKZ x HBB still holds his own nowadays.

Downsides to FUDU: It isn’t perfect. It isn’t bright. It may be too warm for many tastes. But among the warm sets, it is my top pick right now for enjoying warmth. WARNINGS: if you fear warm sounds, like you’re going to miss the details that the warmth covers up, then DONT get this! YOU WON'T LIKE IT! MP145 Note to elaborate: When I say “the bass has texture,” it may be that the upper mids variance gives rise to upper harmonics of low end primary tones, possibly. Instruments across the board change in character when their harmonics across the range are messed with. Working on fixing cable knocking noises. No, I don’t think “stay on track” comes from track editors haha.

I have been using Wa'ner since it's launch, need an upgrade. I'm confused between Hexa and Vudu Verse 1. I like little bright (not KZ/CCA like) and Sub-bass focus IEM's because most of my playlist consists of Rock/Metal.

Hi Dan, I am not new to this hobby yet the Fudu has found its way into my regular rotation. I love its overall sound signature. I’m a bit of a bass head if I say so myself. Your sound samples are so well done and are an invaluable asset to the community. I find the Fudu very addictive incredible bass and mid bass that I find missing in so many of the hyped iems. I have no need for the MP145 as I have the Fat Earth which is a modified S12 set by Micheal Bruce which is my number one set. Fat Earth is way more money though. The Fudu is number two which is a testament of how good the Fudu is. It would be interesting for you to review the Juzear Clear a $50 iem set that’s geared for us bass heads. 😊Please keep up the great work. Thank you..!

@@profound369 sorry for the late reply….first the Fat Earth is a tuning that is not for the faint of heart. You have to be a bass head like me to appreciate it. They are $300. The fact that the Fudu is part of the conversation is a testament to the Fudu.

@fiddlix apparently the mids are very recessed even though it's V Shaped the way they've recessed some of the peaks means it loses energy and excitement, unlike something like the QKZ X HBB, but if you want Legato bass for half price you know what to do

Legato is great for bass. I am a treble head, and I’ll take the Wan’ers over the HBB any day. That said, I am eyeballing Simgot’s HBB collab. All Tangzu IEMs are top notch! Like Moondrop and Simgot! ❤

It is surprising how well HBB and Wan'Er perform compared to iems that are 4/5 times more expensive. MP145 and Verse are close, but I feel that Fudu vocals are more recessed and is overall more "compressed". I like the spaciality MP145 have, but it's true that it is edgier. Different flavours. Great review, as usual.

Hi Dan, gotta say: comparing different iems with you is my favorite exercise. Amazing that money is not everything here. I really don't fancy either Maestro SE or Qkz x Hbb. To my ears and preferences it almost sounds like everything is 'drowning' in bass. Waner on the other end seems to be missing a tad of bass that gives mp145 and fudu amazing texture and balance. They do sound similar, but maybe given mp145 planar driver it gets the upper hand in details and air which might get fatiguing, so I see the value of fudu. Mp145 seems a better set, but sometimes we are not in the mood for better, sometimes we just need good enough. Good enough balance, texture and the trade-off of slightly less details for less fatigue. Thank you.

Brilliant review Dan. What a well-tuned set. For the Verse 2, would love it to tweak the Verse 1 with a slightly grander soundstage/air (the only part of the Hidz I preferred), whilst maintaining its wonderful clean balance and timbre. Ps Totally agree re the influence of mood/signatures and other factors. I'll throw in another... your library. If you have an eclectic library, every iem I've owned has something magical about them.

I gotta agree with your statement, "the HBB... stands on its own two feet." I've tried IEMs and headphones up to around $350, from HD560s (my daily) to Sundaras to OH10's and Airpod Pros and Sennheiser 58X, DT 990s, DT 700 pro x, etc. etc... the HBB is just so unique. I thought I was a treble head for a while, but I started to become more and more interested in subbass, and finally in June of this year I finally was able to go to a concert for the first time since like 2018, way before I got into headphones as a hobby. Hearing my favorite artists (boygenius) and my favorite song (Graceland Too) live, really made me re-evaluate sound in headphones. People talk so much about having dead flat neutral headphones to perfectly recreate the artists intentions, but... have they been to a concert? The bass is POWERFUL. Boygenius is a fully natural instrumentation show, the only bass comes from guitars and drums, and the thump and rumble that I felt deep in my chest, in an outdoor amphitheater, completely turned upside down my sound signature preferences. Since then, I've EQ's my HD560s to really boost subbass to harman levels, tame the treble just a touch, add a touch more air, and it's quite close to the live experience. BUT THE HBB's MAN. It's just a HAIR too much bass to sound exactly like the live performance, but good god it's close. It's so shocking how natural and engaging they are for $20. For me, I don't know if they can be beaten. The FUDU here, its sound signature honestly sounds similar to how I've EQ'd my headphones. Which are $200 btw, and I bought a $200 amp/dac. You can use those for $90 with like a $10 dongle and be set.

Dan your videos are so soothing and you've led me to some new beautiful music, great taste! Just opened my FUDU and listening. Still not sold on Waner. I'm a basshead with expanding tastes so I gave it a 2nd shot and ending up spending days tip rolling and modding; even cable rolled despite rarely noticing differences with cable changes. I realized recently that my Dac settings were preset so I'm going to give the stock sound a 3rd chance. I actually usually enjoy forward mids but Waner hurts my ears. I bought the green one which looks nice so let's see...

to my subjective ears, fudu sounds more "closed" than mp145 that sounds cleaner and more "open", waner's sounds really nice for $16 ( though at 33:51 i hear that the bass saturates so there are no miracles). qkz hbb and maestro se sounds too dark and muffled (no sparkle, no air) so my rating from ear in this video is mp145>fudu>waner>maestro>qkz. how does fudu compares with olina ?

Based on this demo, for me the mp145 is the winner, vocals sound mor enatural more lush, Fudu vocals and cymbals can sound thin at times. QKZ Hbb can hold its own, just lacks separation and extra bite in the snares. Waner sounds like a pair of cheap earbuds you get in the airplane for free.

Really interesting insight particularly when addressing price points and sound preferences, Dan. My ears still gravitate to that hyper lush QKZ HBB sound, so for Black Friday I'm going to go with them (plus W1 ear tips and a better cable). I'm still undecided on whether I like the S12pros, or the Fudus better, and am still considering saving up for some Maestro SEs. For now (until I make up my mind), I think the QKZ HBBs will do me just fine for casual music listening and on-the-go movie watching.

Hi Dan, Thank you for your review and your insight is invaluable. Demos are very useful as well. I actually came to Fudu after comparing it with P1 max demo and I felt they Fudu are more closer to P1 max than MP 145, but I am listening on Sundara and Sundara's roll off in sub bass might impact my opinion. I was basically torn between Fudu and P1 max and went with Fudu based on this video Will let you know how it sounds

The only con with the hbb…the fit. Tempted to throw a .78 flat 2 pin on it rather than the tripowin qdc I’ve got on it now. Qdc doesn’t like my big ears. I had to do that with my em6l, because it just kept getting pulled out of my ears, now it’s the iem I go for 90% of the time. Great for metal, great for gaming and great for general content consumption. Also warm and lush, but also effected by impedance to make it the opposite depending on source and cable measurement.

I came back to this comparison wearing the KZ Castors, just to see how I would like the sound compared to my sets of the MP145, S12, Hexa. Honestly, for the money...hell...regardless of the price, they are really good. Coupled with the tuning switches, my goodness...for only $15...it's a compelling IEM IMHO. They were surprising enjoyable, so I threw some more money at the improved bass version and the CCA Rhapsody. This ChiFi hobby is getting ridiculously affordable.

in a noncollector audiophile scenario - while it is true that perception-taste shifts around all the time; i think there is still a personal HRTF dragon to chase in the sense that, the more you approximate the "correct" tonal shaping for your canal and averaged library, like closest to baseline in terms of the experiential oscillation, the jumps in perception for that one set are diminished, and then flavoring can be achieved with very broad shelves

Completely agree. The Fudu is a cracking IEM. Not just it's tuning but for me, it's timbre is 100% correct. Listen back to the Plini track (GRT test track choice btw) and just compare what happens to the snare, hats and cymbals across each comparison (equally the guitar plucks and bass guitar snaps) but most importantly the snare drum, and each alone illustrates just how correct the timbre is on the Fudu. The snare on the Hidizs sounds slack, whispy and more like a shaker compared to it's proper attack and hit through the Fudu. Superb IEM. Tangzu deserve the praise. This set should def be getting more hype.

what i think is going on in this case is that the fudu has cleaned up some uppermidslowhighs that most others want to excite and often overexcite and crowd the stereo image for atmospherics and stuff which can also be a source of fatigue. and with it pulled back maybe you enjoy a bit more negative space and instrument separation ease

I think fatiguing comes from cleanliness. I got hola, fudu(4.4mm), qkz x hbb, tri i3pro and hd660s. I got the hidizs dh80s (have had zendac v2 and btr5) and my sources vary inbetween macbook air m1, ipad mini 6 and samsung s23. My fav combos for relaxed listening are ipad mini 6 + dh80s + hola or macbook air m1 + dh80s + sennheiser hd660s. The rest is too clean, these forementioned combos sounds like as if some harmonic distortions r introduced to the sound so they sound musical and non-fatiguing. I am a nitpicking stereo system audiophile actually. Oh and one thing that is standing out about fudu is that there isn't a second pair that I heard that plays music in your brain like this. You definitely feel the music is being reproduced in your head and you r not listening through your ears. And I adore that hidizs dh80s is making the instruments 3d with a tad bit of sweetness to it. I would take dh80s over btr5 and zendac v2 anyday of the week. And this is my 2 cents. (Mic drop)😅

The QKZ x HBB is weird because I feel it's way too warm for me, but _every time_ I listen to them or hear them in your demos, my mind is like, "yeah, that's nice" haha As far as the Divinus goes, it's currently on what looks like a clearance sale for $72 on Amazon and I'm champing at the bit to get it just to use it as a reason to clear out my collection. Speaking of the demos...I've only just now realized how bad the intonation is on Flea's bass throughout the Chili Pepper's song. It was nearing unbearable as it switched across different units lol

Great review, Dan. What are your thoughts on FUDU compared to the OH10? I personally go back and forth between the OH10 (bass), Timeless (dynamics!), and S12 pro (smooth/detailed/sparkly). Thought this would fit in nicely as my easy listening set so I bought it. The OH10 also combining dynamic and balanced armature drivers seems like a nice basis for comparison. I get my FUDU today! How is the FUDU so far?
@danjbry
@danjbry 10 месяцев назад
@@ThisIsRick So I've had them for a few days now. I think Dan's analysis is spot-on in regards to the lack of fatigue. The bass is powerful, but not overpowering if that makes sense. It tames some of the treble without losing too much of the space. I think it will fit nicely with my collection. Comparing to the OH10, it seems a bit more balanced if a bit less detailed. To illustrate by comparing to loudspeakers, I think the OH10 feels like a speaker and discrete sub, while the FUDU seems more like a two way speaker with a great woofer. It feels more put together. With the OH10 being twice the price it is still better, but I'm not sure it's two times better. Timeless still tops both in my mind, but I feel like I can relax more with FUDU or OH10. (I've fallen asleep with the FUDU the past two days... lol)

there is objectively better iems ( measures better, lower distortion etc) then subjectively better ( I like this sound the most etc) what I find really weird is that there are iems priced for 1000s and people swear by them and I'm sure they are good don't get me wrong. but I feel in a blind test against a more budget iem of similar tuning I doubt they would really be able to pick out 100% of the time as tuning is probably the most noticeable difference between iems with technicalities being second and much harder to compare.

MP145 > FUDU > HBB > WAN’ER. The FUDU vocals are too recessed and the bass is therefore too overpowering. The MP145 vocals are forward enough to be a better balanced sound. Plus the MP145 has better air than the FUDU.

Hi Dan, I bought the TinHifi T3 Plus (partly due to your great review on it) and have been using it for a while. I'm a fan of its 'fun' sound signature with very forward-sounding vocal and decent bass. My preference for bass is higher than most reviewers, I like something with at least similar or more bass as the T3+. You seem to like the T3 Plus a lot more than what the other reviewers did, so I feel like maybe my preferences, compared to the other reviewers, are more similar to yours. I've heard mixed opinions about the Fudu's bass, some people also say the vocal is less forward, and the sound is unengaging and too 'easy' to listen too which might be less 'fun'. But since you seem to really like it, I'm wondering what do you think of it as an upgrade for the T3 Plus based on my preferences. Or do you have other preferences at similar price point? I'd really appreciate it if you'd reply.
@dansaudioreviews
@dansaudioreviews 9 месяцев назад
The Fudu to me is not an upgrade. It’s rather a uniquely and emphatically warm IEM to be used in a rotation of other gear. The T3+ doesn’t approach those levels of warm, but instead has a more overall balanced approach, comparatively. I would see the Fudu as a companion to the T3+, not an upgrade or replacement.

@@dansaudioreviews I see, then I won't consider getting the Fudu. I don't have the budget to purchase many iems to try, so when I wanna upgrade, I wanna choose one with guaranteed significant improvement rather than purchasing many models for small upgrades. For example I've tried my friend's truthear zero red with the impedance adapter, I found the bass stronger and punchier but the vocal a bit less forward, it feels like a small side-grade for me so I wouldn't buy it. I also don't have access to an iem store to try them out physically, so I've to rely on opinions of someone like you. So I'd really appreciate it if you could suggest me iem(s) that you think would be a great upgrade for me based on my preferences in sound. The sound is my top priority so feel free to suggest the best option(s) in your opinion regardless for price. Thanks!

Dude, you're like the serial predator of IEM reviewers: like a selfish lover who has his way, then, like, Splitsville. I love your side-by-side comparisons here, they're fantastic and unique, but after watching the first one, where you loved the S12 Pro, only in the next video to find it greatly wanting next to the MP145 and, in the latest video I just saw, saying the Fudu ruled and the that the MP145, which you'd absolutely gushed over, was "good and bad" - seriously - it's tough to keep up. I came to your critical listening videos after having my sights set the S12 Pro, only to agree with you that the MP145 was a lusher experience (still not as good a soundstage as the Letshuoer IMO) and, after watching this Fudu video, I still like the MP145 more than the S12 Pro and both of the aforementioned more than the Fudu. I mean, you do do that voodoo that you do so well, but you might not want to summarily abandon the IEMs you formerly thought were really good. I'm off to watch your latest video to find out which new IEM you'll be ditching the Fudu for. ✌️😎

Nice review! I was comparing the Fudu and Wa'ner sound demos and seems like the Fudu is what I'm looking for: I like the warm sound of the Wa'ner and just wished it had better sub-bass extension. I know sound demos aren't an accurate representation of the sound, they can just show the differences so my question is: is the Fudu a significant upgrade to the Wa'ner specially considering sub-bass extension? Like in a blind A/B test, is the audio quality noticeably different?

Hi Dan, i am the owner of the QKZ X HBB and love it so much, especially with my eq in Wavelet (little less sub and mid bass and a bit more high in the 4 and 6khz notes). I received today the Fudu with the 3.5mm and to be honest i think i do not really hear a upgrade in sound quality, also not after some tip rolling, i am just curious how you think about these 2 iems, thanks.
@dansaudioreviews
@dansaudioreviews 10 месяцев назад
Not an upgrade. They’re just two different profiles. The curves are different. I think someone could prefer the HBB over the FUDU, if that’s the taste and mood they’re on. The FUDU is certainly a warm set. You have to be in that headspace. The HBB actually gives some upper end detail that the FUDU brings down. I don’t think FUDU is going to be people’s core IEM in a rotation, but rather something to listen to when warm is sought after. It has the downside of not having the most detail. And if that is something a person can’t handle losing…well it’s gonna feel bad. But, I suggest trying it at different times of day or on different days. I don’t think it needs time to “burn in,” as sometimes people attribute longer ownership to helping improve the sound with. I think this set may just be good sometimes, and not what I want in others. If they don’t allow you to find joy, even after trying at different times and moods…I’m so sorry 😞 My usual recommendations almost always, or always really, have more apparent upper end presence. This is a rare time for me too then that I found joy in something with a bit less. It’s a wild departure.

It’s the bass. It’s SO loud. So when I go to record and play it back, if I pump the sound up so you hear the upper end more, the bass gets clipped. I go as loud as I can on my meters before clipping happens. Unfortunately then, the truest way to hear the maestro in a demo would be to open its video and pump up your sound system to get listenable volumes for that upper end. Be warned, the maestro has insane levels of bass if you do this. It’s a downside to the IEM. But still sooooo satisfying.

Whatever you are used to and familiar with. But yea, I do like a flatter profile right now, with a bright lean to pick up on small differences I often find important to pick up on the upper end. I currently wear the HD800S when I make my commentary. Though I do of course have direct personal listening experience that primarily serves me to know what I’m speaking toward. The HD800S monitoring I do is just to remind me of aspects I heard in the response during normal listening prior to making my commentary. I’m going to start trying to use the TANGZU FUDU though. @dansaudioreviews
@dansaudioreviews 10 месяцев назад
FUDU has such welcome ease to it without losing a sense of natural sound somehow. I’m really really digging it right now in any mood or time so far. Easy listen with a perspective of detail present. The Timeless is hard to touch for its own extreme dynamism and sense of clarity. It will probably hold its position for awhile as doing something of the best for what it’s doing at this price. Still, it has fatiguing aspects to the treble at times. The S12 Pro is probably a pretty good middle ground of flavors. It relaxes up a bit while still trying to offer brightness for “clarity” feelings. But it isn’t as easy as the FUDU and isn’t as dynamic and crystal clear as the timeless. It’ll come down to personal preference along that spectrum, and quite possibly down to your own ear’s upper mids/treble gain, and people’s own age related hearing losses. I can see a varied experience among people here, as to which one they feel they love when they listen. I’m currently loving FUDU, but that could also be novelty that eventually changes. Time will tell for sure, but it has those wonderful qualities that it presents and I’m still down for it.
