This rendition of Gethsemane touched me waaayyyy more than the original and much more than John Legend’s version. Dan seems to “become” the character instead of just performing. I think the number of views is increasing because it seems to have suddenly come to the attention of reactors. I don’t think most artists are aware of how many “new fans” are introduced to them by reactors.

I've been leaving comments for years to reactors who listen to Dan's stuff asking them to do this song, and then suddenly it started to pop up, maybe a year or so ago. And then even more in the last 8 or so months. As long as a few people start doing it, it starts to spread. It still doesn't have the attention it deserves but I'm really happy that more people are discovering this absolute gem of a cover. This one is up there with the original recording by Ian Gillan in my oppinon.

I think you are absolutely on point. “Metal Singer Performs Amazing Grace” rolled through my feed and I just had to know how that could be right, you know? But Metal Singer seems to be the most underrated voice in like ever!! I have never heard a voice that I liked as much as his and I was raising teenagers during the era that he covers. He truly is the best and I wish him every good thing in life to come to him, for the entertainment and nostalgia he’s given to me. I had 5 sons in their teens at the same time and his Danny Don’t You Know sounds like the writers were standing in my kitchen with all the weird, nerdy boys! lol

The raise in views is because more reactors like you are reacting to it after learning about Dan when he did Amazing Grace. And Dan’s subscribers in general have skyrocketed since Amazing Grace went viral. I would imagine all of his covers have seen a dramatic rise in views since AG. Loved your reaction ❤️

Yes… Jesus Christ and not profanely. Tears every time I listen/watch Dan’s Gethsemane. He perfectly and so passionately portrays every emotion that may have transpired in the darkened garden and then some … Magnificent! Before I watched this on Dan's site, I checked out the film, and some of the stage versions, so sorry to everyone who loved Ted Neely, but I think Dan Vasc put way more into it. Top of the pile for me.

Watching you react to Dan's Gethsemane brought to mind the word 'enthralled'. Dan consistently creates a sense of awe no matter what genre of music he has chosen to cover. Keep going. You will experience, as many already have, an entertainer whose abilities cause you to slowly shake your head side to side (or quickly nod up and down) and smile with wonderment and admiration. That he is kind-hearted, humorous and likeable are bonuses.

Your genuine reaction touched me while Dan performed this with incredible emotional realism. I'm one of those ppl who has always despised this song (& the Bohemian Rhapsody one too), yet whenever reactors play them by Dan, I bend an ear. Today it finally dawned on me that He (Jesus) was also bearing our eternal pain so that we can happily roll around heaven all day pain free. Whoa.

The views for this song have gone up in the last six months because of his Amazing Grace video, who had never even heard of him. A lot of people went down the rabbit hole, including myself, after that. I would caution a guess that most of his view numbers have gone up on a lot of his catalog of songs.

Dan has so many great videos - entertaining and his singing skills are mind-blowing. Please do more Dan Vasc reactions. My guess for the sudden jump in views for this performance is because of his cover of Amazing Grace, which is up to something like 11M now. That song brought on a whole new wave of people who aren't fantasy fans or metal fans and introduced them to many versions of Dan. He's only 10K from his goal of 1M subs. So thanks for the awesome review and helping him reach that goal. He's worked his tail off to get there and deserves all the praise he's getting.

I saw this play 50 years ago as a younger child outdoors in a Denver theatre - it was fantastic and I don’t have any religious affiliation but Dan could have been the lead easily!

It's the garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem (now Israel) where Jesus and his disciples prayed the night before he was crucified. Jesus asks God the Father why He has to die and that's what this part of the musical portrays. Dan's performance takes my breath away and makes me cry at the same time. tksss

There are people like Ian Gillan, who originated the role, and Steve Balsalmo, who did it in London, who are techincally great. John Farnham in Austtralia and Ted Neeley in the film get the passion. Dan is the one artist who gets both. According to the Gospell of Luke, Jesus was so overwrought in the Garden of GETHsemahNEE that his sweat was blood, and Luke was a medical man. You can almost hear Dan bleed as he pleads for his father to change his mind. Your review is very good, although it reminds me of a scene in Godspell, where Judas says "Jesu..." and Jesus stops, and says "Slowly, I turn..."
