Beautiful firearm. I just picked up the DWX Optic ready, and I have the same issues you had. The front sight is a relatively tall fiber optic, but no plate and after calling and speaking with them, they had no info on what size rear sight I needed to match the front sight and they didn't even know it was a glock dovetail. Really disappointing because the optic ready version of this firearm is $500 more than the non optic ready, and here I am, forced to use it without an optic. They have no plates in stock either and they seemed clueless about all of this. Great shooting gun though. May have to utilize Impact Machine to get a plate, and search for an optic with a rear sight notch. Less than ideal.
Yeah, disappointing to hear. I think they can solve it by simply making one or two variants that have direct milled slides for RMR and DP footprints. That fixes everything. Co-witness with standard height irons
You like Dan Wesson and you like CZ = DWX. I just got the DWX compact Optic ready with rails, I’ll pick it up next week. And compare it to my staccato C2 and Shadow 2 compact. I can’t wait.
Great video thanks man. Couple questions on the iron sights, do you know if Dawson or another company makes a rear co-witness night sight that’s compatible with these? Did you change out the front sight yourself and if so do you know of a video? Looks challenging. Also what front sight did you go with? Thanks!!
Thank you! Yeah, the sights are a pain in the arse to tell you the truth. DW has the proper heights listed on their site, but they don't detail which sights to purchase for the rear vs front. The rear Dawson plate takes Glock MOS rear sights and are easy to install. The front is proprietary to DW, and I'd highly recommend to have them or a gunsmith install them because it's nearly impossible not to mar the finish, even with a good sight pusher tool.
Agree completely with what you said about the Specialist... DW needs to pull their head out of their corporate ass! And I've been thinking about getting a Les Baer instead for very little more. Unfortunately though they don't have a model with a rail...
Very beautiful 1911 you have! I too own a Dan Wesson Specialist in black and it’s by far my favorite handgun and most expensive too lol… I want to add another high quality 1911 so I’m trying to decide between the Nighthawk Custom shadow hawk Or Wilson Combat CQB.
Unfortunately, I don't have the pistol anymore. I can tell you however, the DW will be more accurate than you or I can ever be. At 75 yards, if you have a rest handy, you should be able to get sub MOA results.
Irons are Dawson. Can't remember the exact ones but I do remember the rears were MOS ones at the height specified from Dan Wesson. Light is the Holosun PID and the plate is the RMR pattern from Dan Wesson. RM06 for the sight and Surefire X300U-A for the light. Grips are Aeroknox Stealth.
I got the OR TCP yesterday. Got a #2 plate for a rmsc. I hate plates and wish it was direct cut. Then i find out i need a rear sight. A .475 to cowitness. Are you kidding me? Then i will need to change the front sight which doesn't seem too easy to a .400 front. I have found one on the internet. A Dawnson fiber optic. I dont want a fo on a carry gun. Wtf. I love my DWX but this tcp is a turd i shouldn't have bought.
Unfortunately, all Dan Wesson "Optics Ready" models have the same problem. Makes one think whether they can be sued for false advertising for labeling "Optics Ready" on their models. In my book, optics ready means plate in the damn box with co-witness irons already installed. Definitely feel your pain. It sucks too, cause the gun is amazing. Customer Service, not so much.
@@fightingsolveseverything7667 Dan wesson website. I got the sights and red dot mounted over the weekend. But I'm still not a fan. I actually prefer the iron sights.
The rear is a Dawson Co-Witness Fixed Sight for Glock MOS. I had purchased the Novak Cut Front Fiber Optic from Dawson, but it would've needed a lot of fitting. I stuck with the Ameriglo fixed front sight from Dan Wesson. It's .190" high, so a little lower than it should be for co-witness, but I tested the pair and it's just 1 MOA high at 10 yards. Works fine for me.
When did this variant come out? This year? 2023? Not htat I'm heavily into RDS but ......in case I do wan a RDS on a 1911 .....maybe they'll get it "more right" in 2024 And FINALLY put their "DW" logo on the slide for a more finished look.
@@EchoDelta2A I know you haven't had yours very long since it did just come out last year in 2023. But so far has there been any rust issues e.g. wit hthe hammer ? DW guns have in the past been known to come with hammers made from a lesser quality steel than the rest of the gun....some RU-vidrs running gun channels mentioned this on theiirs....has DW stepped up? ;0 43 oz (empty) 1911...intersting....something i look for in a gun. Gunsare a product where "more weight" is actually a good thing...why some guys ad lights for that added 4 oz.... Maybe you could do a followup video later this year....o your Specialist
