+Tom Miller I think it was fantastic until 2002 when it started going quickly downhill. Some of it's because the talent they've had since then isn't as good, but I think another problem is that the writers aren't as good either. You need both good talent AND good writing. One without the other is no good.

It had something of a revival in the mid-1980's when Lorne Michaels came back. But by far its best years were the first few seasons and the original cast with Chase, Ackroyd, Belushi, Curtin, Radner, etc. It started at the top and went mostly downhill from there. It's been cruising on its past glories, and occasional new talents that show up, ever since. I really don't know what people see in Carvey. His so-called impersonations (which look nothing like the person being impersonated) are usually not very funny at all. These are pretty bad actually.

SNL has been so much better in the 21st century. Only until 2012 when pretty much all the cast left show. Didn't the show almost get canceld in the 20th century. The 80s? Why is everyone saying the 80s and 90s SNL was so good. Its terrible compared to every episode in 2010.

I say that because your function in that forum was NOT to be a moderator but to be an interviewer in a "rapid-fire" setting. Actually, Matt Lauer did an excellent job. Don't blame him because Hillary laid an egg. She actually scolded an honored military man. That was horrendous.
