Unfortunately as long as the fighters are willing to fight for "low" pay, guys like Dana White will keep taking advantage of them. White is being disingenuous by implying that the reason UFC does not reveal their fighters' pay is because they care about the fighters. He does not want to risk the bad publicity and have the fighters really scrutinize the deal they're getting.

Fuck, everyone needs to realize that UFC IS A NEW COMPANY, they have only been around for 20 years now, when they started they were only paying their fighters few hundred to a thousand, now they are paying their fighters anywhere from 10k - 1mil+ (depending on their status). Just wait another 20 years and UFC will be paying their fighters a hell of a lot more. You seriously can't compare salaries of UFC Fighters to Boxers... MMA(UFC) = 20 Years Boxing = Over 100 Years Ofc top ranked boxers would get payed more... but soon they wont get payed much because it's a dying sport, so really.. UFC Fighters aren't getting fucked over.

Not to mention, boxing is an international sport. Whereas the UFC is just now stepping into international bouts (mainly in South America). EDIT: And, don't forget that most UFC fighters can fight twice to three times a year, whereas boxers will only fight once a year - or even once every two years.
its 2021 and people STILL rag on the UFC for their paying of fighters...here it is: the UFC has HUNDREDS of signed fighters at one time, yes most get paid very little until they make their way up the ranks and hopefully into a PPV spot where they can get % points and thats the Jones/McGregor/Rousey money. Oh and most boxers get paid shit too. Its just the top guys that ppl like to compare those figures to.
I am so glad that Dana is just the talking face of the company while the Fertitto brothers are handling the real business because Dana has no clue about who's marketable! The UFC attracts a lot of NASCAR fans and Roy looks a lot like that particular fanbase, and that make him a likeable fighter and someone they can Identify with. Roy's look is just fine!
I believe Dana but what he doesn't say is main and co-main get a percentage of PPV buys. and to get the "incentives and bonuses" he make those fighters jump through hoops to get it.
It's definitely about the money. But I see a little of his point. Or I should say his justification. If they disclosed fighters pay, the only thing people will talk about is money. Then fighters will compete with each other - for pay, and then some fighters will not fight unless they get X or Y. And then the UFC will have competitors who will offer more - this and that, and we have MMA becoming boxing. Probably a little exaggerated but I see how he uses that as justification.
I def think the fighters should be paid more...union is the best bet I think. But, Dana does have a point. I think it's better that salaries aren't fully disclosed. It makes everything about the money. So and so isn't worth that or whatever.....and the comment about the vultures coming out of the woodwork couldn't be truer. There's a middle-ground somewhere.

You may like or dislike Dana White, I'm not that big of a fan, but he is right here. If Roy got into shape and buffed up... forget about it, with his talent, he'd be unstoppable for years. Hall of fame material, easy.

Its not a beauty pageant. That is not what Dana was saying. It is the sponsors that choose the fighters that they want to sponsor, not Dana. And he is right. If Big Country ( who I am a huge fan of, by the way ) trimmed the beard, and the waistline, and still fought the way he does, sponsors would be lining up . Beauty sells. VelasqueZ, Dos Santos, St. Pierre, all have great sponsors. Do you believe their image has nothing to do with that??

Dana White admits it all the time. he's always reminding the viewers and fighters that the UFC is bigger than any of the fighters. he also set up Rhonda Rousey with a fighter he knew would beat her, since she was already contemplating taking time off and possibly retiring with the belt. Does anyone not believe Dana at all on this? Read on Sherdog that the ufc pays about 3% of it's total profit to fighters. To give you an idea the NBA is above 70%. I think it's fear of retribution. Especially the lower guys with no bargaining power. Look at all the big guys that talked shit on pay after they left. Rampage, Couture, Bas, Tito, Tank. I think top guys like GSP, Silva, Bones and get 90-95% of the payroll which is fucked up.

Fact is they sign a contract and if you don't like what's in it don't sign it and then bitch and moan about it. The ufc is VERY particular on getting them to understand EXACTLY what they're signing too. They give them NO AMMO, so if a fighter then comes out and starts bitching its completely their own fault. Dana White is doing a pretty damn good job, when it comes to setting up the deals and making MMA more popular and accessable to anyone. He gives his honest opinion and numbers on everything he can think of. He is also the one who insists to have a huge UFC roster, even though they don't need that many fighters, but he keeps giving them a chance in order to find new talent. Boxing is so much above MMA, when it comes to the money it's not even funny anymore. Stop being unedjucated, son.

Dana is saying that while he may not get paid as much as he wants from UFC alone, he is a good enough fighter to get sponsors to make up for such revenue. But because Roy Nelson looks trashy and un-groomed, sponsors are not going to want to brand their company image with the unprofessional look of Roy Nelson. What hes getting at is that if he wants the big bucks he needs to look halfway appealing.

These people dont know what they are talking about. That UFC card earned more money then the Pacquiao fight, but the UFC keeps 95% of it. Thats not a guess its a fact. The problem is that the UFC promotes all the fighters in the UFC. It locks down contracts that limits them to how much money they can make regardless of how big they get. Mma is a new sport and doesn't have a lot of competition(UFC) so the fighters have no way to argue what they are getting.Ufc tells them to take it or leave it and the fighters are just willing to because they have no other outlets. UFC rapes these athletes!!!!Its literally a mirror image of the cards. Silva should've been guaranteed 26mil and Sonnen 5 mil. They got enough money for that but didn't payout. UFC payed under 1 million to all the fighters on the card and pocketed the other 66 million off ppv sales and the gate. That doesn't include what they make on endorsements!!! Probably made around 100 million EASY and payed out 1 million to the fighters!!!!! BULLSHIT!!!
