This was literally the best case scenario for Vettori. Fought a bigger opponent, won, performance bonus, 20% of Costas purse and got so much respect from the community. Marvin „NO EXCUSES!“ Vettori is a beast!
@@zzing15 If someone was getting knocked out it's Vettori, not Costa. Vettori had volume, but Costa basically only threw lethal shots. Vettori earned it by surviving it ..
And Marvin had to cut weight first to reach 185 and then gain weight again to 208 for the fight.. To at least close the gap a bit... Whereas Costa was around 200-220 his whole time while preparing for the fight..
He's fun to watch lose. He's a P.O.S. for not even attempting to lose the weight. I was VERY happy to hear Dana say he has to fight at 205 from now on especially after hearing all the BS that him and his manager pulled just prior to the fight!
@@alexandercrush no cause that's what every light heavyweight weighs. They all cut down to 205. Marvin was 205 on fight day which is standard for middleweight
Honorable mention to Izzy for analyzing this fight so well. Dishonorable mention to Izzy for giving Costa all that baby weight and post partum depression to deal with.
@@wc3617 lol... hilarious though! Easy is very difficult to hit.. this, everyone knows! Marvin is a stand up fighter ready to take the punches and kick.. Izzy, hits you and stunt you and you barely can hit him...
I love how at all these press conferences there’s always that same one guy towards the end with a decently thick accent that Dana can never understand. Every time he asks a question Dana is just instantly like, “what was that question?”, as he turns to his assistant to repeat it for him 💀 it’s become something I expect to see and look forward to at this point.
Grats Angry Marvin, 20 % of Paulo's Purse, won, and the $50k bonus good shit bro I am happy to see it! I have to admit you gained a more solid fan today, was a bit iffy with the Izzy denial but happy to see the hard work and professionalism pay off!!
I really hope he puts him into 205 divisions. He wanted to be physically stronger than his opponent, wel now he will see how it feels. I am very pleased with how things unfolded.
@L Film Vettori would be a janitor if it wasn't for that chin, I'd recommend you bet those winnings on his next title shot but let's be honest here, that's never happening🤣
@L Film where did costa lose on the ground.. costa took vettori down, the only reason vettori ended up on to was costa went for a guillotine, Paulo costa stuffed all of vettori takedown and got up from the ground anytime they ended up o the ground lol did you watch the fight
I hope Vettori gets rewarded extra for keeping this card together through all the bullshit. And I mean behind the scenes extra, not the bonuses we already know of.
100% Dana gave him a back room bonus. Vettori saved the card and nobody could’ve criticised him if he didn’t take the fight considering how overweight Costa was.
You earned a fan in me Marvin! Fighting a guy heavier than you that didn't even attempt to make weight while you were working on your weight your whole fight camp then still took the fight! Very honorable! I had it 3-2, Vettori 1st, 2nd and 4th and Costa 3rd and 5th. Congratulations Marvin Vettori you most definitely deserved this win! 👏
I had it vettori for 4 and costa the 5th. Vettori pieced costa up the entire fight. He only had those vicious body kicks but kicks every 15 to 20 secs don’t win fights I mean unless you’re izzy 🤷♂️
He has the best name. Took it from villain Leeroy from the movie "the last dragon." A kung-fu cult classic. 👍💯 Edit- been a fan since he fought Uriah Faber. 🙏
Costa is FOOKED he's in the Darren Till situation. His biggest wins and best performances are at a weight he can't reach anymore i.e. he can't weight bully his opponents or just tank their shots. Try that run forward chin in the air fearless shit with Jan, Glover, Jiri, Dominick, or Thiago see how it works out
Naah the loser of Cannonier vs Brunson is a good fight for Marvin because Brunson has won a lot of fights now and deserves a title shot if he beats Cannonier.
Paulo did good but it was just so dirty how he forced Vettori in to a fight where he has size disadvantage, such a scummy way to get a win which didn't get, shows that he's not confident enough.
exactly. Costa absolutely came ready to fight and clearly Costa fights better at 205. that's probably why he didn't want to weight cut, he'll do some damage in the LHW class but I have no respect for him. anymore
People have to give Costa a break, he’s still carrying Izzy’s kid so of course he’s going to a bit heavier. Rude to knock somebody who is pregnant like that
@@masrr3678 He's not a beast he forced Vettori to go 20 pounds heavier when he was training to be around that weight the entire time. If he cut back down to middleweight he wouldn't have had the same power and Vettori wouldn't have been running on low gas in the 4th and 5th.
@@TheSinsOfAvarice97 In real fights and to be the best you should be able to fight in any condition and any weight any situation Costa did more damage then Marvin did I even see Marvin get rocked twice hence him going for the clinch in the 5th and playing it safe do casuals such as yourself know the shit Marvin does and says or did you just suddenly see the fight on TV or something
Much respect for Alex "Bruce Leeroy" Caceres. Took an illegal knee, and kept the fight going. This kid has a lot of heart and is a true martial artist. We have seen others in this situation, well, ion know...just glad Alex was able to continue. Been a huge fan of his since TUF.
Holy shit, didn't even realise he was still fighting in the UFC Since TUF, He must hardly ever fight then because this is the only time Ive seen him on the cards
FACTS. And he had not only dropped the ball for that Clout tour with Izzy IMO, but lost even some fans. Of course which was a massive loss and why this clear 180 was that much sweeter. Just shows that any rank or current popularity can skyrocket off being a genuine individual or the opposite.
Just shows you how much these guys kill themselves to get to their supposed "weightclass" I mean Costa had to cut 15lbs just to get to 205. That is mad.
it was insane how Marvin ate those body kicks and Costa with size advantage kicks like a horse but Vettori should really improve his striking instead of relying on toughness, it was surprising how he didn't use that Orthodox-Southpaw bodyshot advantage that Costa was using, or at least try to block those better.
His defense was quite solid. It's easy from sidelines to talk about strategy, especially hard for him when his body was ruined from r1 because of kicks.
He doesn’t train to kick, you can see it. He kicks in training but you can tell he doesn’t drill kicks into his combinations. Even throwing a low kick instead of the body kick would’ve kept Costa off balance to be jabbed. That’s how Uriah Hall broke Costa, Uriah just doesn’t have Marvin’s chin and couldn’t keep it up.
Even though what he did wasn't right Costa is one of my favourites he really is like a heel bad guy and never use to care for vettori but now will probably watch all his fights.
@@AndrewSpicer747x it’s his career and life. Dana is multi millionaire and being petty I get it, he missed weight. The media bashed him for a week and he lost 20% of his purse. Still, it was the fight of the night. Costa would’ve put a lot of people, that weren’t forged in Mordor, out cold. He was #2 in weight class. He is a good draw and I can’t wait to see his next fight
It's true. Vettori wasn't rattled by the huge weight miss, and he just wanted to fight. A lot of people would use the weight issues as an excuse to call off the whole fight. Vettori should get an opportunity to have a BMF title someday.
How can they say Costa redeemed himself? He came to Vegas having trained to fight at 215 or something like that while Vettori trained for 190 and Costa was building up while Vettori had to lose to get there. It's close to criminal. The only place costa excelled was where he used that extra weight. Everyone's leg kick looks devastating when we outweigh our victims by 30-40. The eyepoke was intentional too. Go watch the replay. Costa could do 185-205 and possibly win at heavyweight at Bellator. Damn.
Costa is a piece of shit, no doubt! But Dana said it was like 12bs difference when they got in the cage, which Definitely makes a difference the way that Costa did it, by planning to fuck vettori over from the start but I’m just saying the weight was a little closer, I’m happy vettori won that fight, I thought costa was going to win… I hate that weirdo!
To that end, it's a great decision by Dana to bind Costa to 205. If the guy wants to fight at LHW, then he should be fighting legitimate LHWs, not oversized MWs.
I think we as spectators don't understand what it's like when fighters lose, especially those who have been dominant for so long. I think Costa may just be suffering from the mental hit that the Izzy loss gave him, hope he bounces back.
Costa’s completely unprofessional behaviour along with his now usual antics, has got Vettori a legion of new fans. Marvin is an absolute warrior!! This division is interesting now with Brunson/cannonier lined up to fight the winner of Izzy and Whittaker, surely the only option for Vettori is Strickland.
Costa looked a lot better than everybody thought he would but having such a big size advantage makes it seem not that special after all he was visibly bigger
He always has been bigger. He's a ridiculously sized jacked middleweight. How he ever made 185 I will never know. Glad he messed up a roid cycle or something and now he's stuck at 205
Costa getting to deep waters and even threatening to put Vettori away by the fifth proves he was playing 5D chess with this "failed" weight cut. Sufficient punishment should be moving him to LHW permanently or go to Bellator. Frankly I'd love to see him try and get away with that kicking game against anyone in 205's top 15.
He doesn’t have power at 205. He hit Vettori clean on plenty of those counters, nothing. I’d give him straight to Dominic Reyes. They both should be ready around the same time.
@@nikeguy2 C'mon, don't be that guy. Costa clearly had power, and Marvin clearly has a granite chin. Even Adesanya couldn't sleep Vettori, and we've seen Izzy TKO people known for having solid chins. Just look at Robert "I spent 10 rounds with Yoel Romero" Whittaker, who got KO'd twice in one fight. Or Kelvin Gastelum, a dude who only survived a TKO because the bell rang in the 5th round.
The most Ironic thing about all this, & can’t believe Dana hasn’t pointed it out yet, is how Paulo complains about the money, but then gets himself fined
Not really costa landed a few body kicks, but izzy had better leg kicks. Marvin just hardly threw leg kicks when he usually does. Costa does not check kicks
Paula's kicks looked slow and clumsy because Izzy started wailing on those shins the moment the fight started. That, and the moments that his kicks do land, Izzy catches it and then starts throwing lefts and rights at him. Had Marvin done the same -- leg kicks to keep Costa off rhythm, catch the body kicks and punish with combos -- Marvin might have gotten a stoppage by round 3, not hoping to hell the bell rings by round 5.
Correct, Izzy been harping on that for a while now...how some fighters are willing to not make weight & give up 20% of their purse just to win, cus they make enough money outside UFC in various ways, they can afford to do it.
Vettori just made lots of new fans including me! All that crap he said/did before has now been forgotten! Good job Vettori!!! Lookin forward to your next fight!!
@@calvincalvin3132 It's got nothing to do with bandwagoning, sure for some it does. I think Vettori just gained the respect of many Asedanya fans because of his professionalism. It's purely on Costa not making weight. The man weighed 220 that's just insane. Wasn't a big fan of him but didnt dislike him either. Now he fully got my respect, will cheer for him. Win or loss. It's about respect.
Pretty sure he'll get can crushed at 205. 205 are naturally bigger, as in taller guys, that carry the weight better without having weird gas tanks. Imagine what Jiri would do to Costa.
Costa showed tonight he has cardio for a full 25 minutes, plus his body kicks negate his reach disadvantage against anyone not named Israel Adesanya. If he weighed 220 at fight night, then that's roughly the same as most LHWs. He'll probably bulk up even more. So the question is, can he deal with the unnaturally deep talent pool in 205? Even #15, Ion Cutelaba, would be a problem for him: better wrestling than Marvin, and unlike the Italian would not come underweight against him. Oh, and he's also fucking loco and will fight in a phone booth with him.
Vettori really hasnt showed anything other than accepting a fight to get paid. The fight didn’t even show that he’s a better than fighting Izzy last time lol. If anything he’s still a dumb kid. He should take some time off and work on his craft. He’s young and doesn’t need to get hit as much as he does.
It’s good to see that Paulo figured how to put the depression weight to good use. it must be tough to recover with all the shame and get back to the place of confidence you were after getting finished hard the way Izzy did him. Hopefully costa continues to piece his life back together.
I didn't even watch the fights and typically only watch Izzy, Hooker, and a few others, But I almost always watch Dana press conferences. Hell, I watched these even before I started watching actual fights.
Dana likes fighters who sign contracts and dont bitch about the pay. I think they should work together to improve their offers, minimums and work out some sort of retirement or after care program that all fighters contribute a very small % to... like the NFL, MLB, etc...
Idk about that, he was throwing insane head kicks, and great power. His defense is good. he just doesn't have a serious ground game. He'll be fine. Might even return to Middleweight, after a fight or two. You never know.
Vettori gained a new fan in me. I didnt like him versus Adesanya but I'm rockin with Marvin from here on out what a performance and what heart and durability.
Vettori looks impressive this fight. Even more impressive considering this fight took place at LHW. My respect for Vettori has increased. However for Paulo Costa this was kind of embarrassing. The Stylebender effect really took a toll on The Eraser.
Tf are you talking about, Costa looked good, Marvin was just better tonight. Embarrassing is not the right word, more like unlucky for Costa. For any other fighter besides Marvin they would’ve been KOed with the shots Costa threw.
Nah, he's too high ranked to fight Costa and already got three 1st round finishes in a row. He should get Santos or Rakic for the #1 contender spot after Jiri fights the winner of Glover/Jan.
You should give Costa an actual good LHW if you want him to get bet like Ankalaev. He'd smoke that journeyman Anthony Smith in his sleep, his reach wouldn't even save him.
First time I watched a vettori fight or press conference was vs adesanya, he looked like a clown. Dude has my respect because of this whole process, handled it professionally and with as much class as you can expect from a fighter, I was rooting for him before the fight start
This sounds more like a reward for the fans than a punishment on costa tbh he doesn’t look bad or any slower at 205 tbh looks like regular costa he just needs better wrestling for lhw that’s all
It's actually a boon for Costa if they handle him correctly. If they start him near the bottom of the division, he can continue to develop and build his resume to establish himself as a contender.
Maybe they should introduce a tiered fine for weight misses ... 1-3lbs 20% 4-6 lbs 30% 6lbs+ 50% and anything over like 10lbs I don't think it's safe for the fight to take place.
@@DarthBane-zf8wv totally agree mate, my thoughts are when fighters deliberately miss weight , this tiered system would penalise them more heavily, and they in turn may want to honour the contract.
I don't know, but a 20 percent fine for coming in 25 lbs over weight seems extremely lenient. They take 20 percent away for fighters that miss for 3 or 4 pounds.
The past couple days really showed that Vettori is actually a professional standup guy and that the first Izzy loss was just a young guy in denial, happens to the best of them. Congrats to Vettori!
I can't stand the guy, but I gotta give Vetorri his props. Dude was putting it on Paulo until the 5th. Respect. And lets not forget that he fought and beat a guy who missed weight by 20 fuckin pounds.
What did my Italian 🇮🇹 brother do this week/weekend? Stayed professional, made show money, made win money, made 50k off performance of the night, and made 20% off what I’d guess to be 50-80k show money of Costa. Meanwhile, Costa has fought only once a year for the past 3-4 years since 2017
Costa has the mass to fight at light heavyweight but that 72 inch reach gonna be a problem. A lot of 6’4 6’5 guys with 80 inch reaches in that division. Costa gonna get his face jabbed off
