I grew up on Howe Street (old Bridge Ave East) and went up and down the canal many times in my dad's boat. ALWAYS scared the crap out of me. Used to hang over the bulked down towards the Barnegat Bay scooping crabs. Great memories and childhood.
The canal became a wake zone. People think if they go fast they will be through the canal quick, not considering the havic they caused behind them. The canal can be a dangerous waterway, which some have experienced. I just hope the Marine police will enforce the no wake zone in the canal. Maybe if they do people will slow down.
Can somebody explain to a landlubber, the signboard with the numbers on the seawall at 6:40? Can't be water depth because lower numbers are on top?? ?? ??
Point Pleasant Canal, also known as Idiots Alley. Lots of clueless boaters exceeding the safe speed and producing way too much wake. Doesn’t take a Masters in wave dynamics to realize in that narrow waterway that each wake rebounds off each side wall of the canal and gets amplified by each passing boat until the canal becomes completely turbulent and nearly impassable. At the least, instead of a pleasant boat ride navigating that canal becomes a white knuckled, stomach turning thrashing. Must be too much to expect enough intelligence to have everyone just slow down.
I go black fishing here often and nothing pisses me off more than a speeding boat going by with no fucks toward anyone’s safety or the many fishermen up and down the canal.
