When I saw how it behaved I was like: Oh please don't tell me it's a capacitor dropper. And yes it is. It drops capacitors to the ground because when you touch it, you fall to the ground and rip out the charger with the capacitors in it.

I really like the 220V version. I'd expect an industrial version with 3-phase 380V supply. After all USB has 4 pins, so it's perfect for 3 phases and a neutral. (grounding in important so ground will be connected to the usb socket external metallic part)

The strange thing is that actual modern supplies are sometimes more efficient than the "eco" model. Its idle consumption is around 0.6W and its efficiency under load is limited to ~80% by the silicon diodes in the rectifier.

Hehe, nice Idea. I'd expect you "test" the second Direct-Line-adapter with your extension cord, but hidden DC-powered. Amps, amps, amps and adding USB-Hubs, overloaded testers, an melting USB-cable ;-)

Don't knock the good old capacitive dropper circuit. As dangerous as it is, it still has its place if used correctly. The simplicity is legendary 😊😉👍

Thank you for this very interesting video. I have recreated the second charger. Super efficient and very short charging times. When charging, I recommend having a fire extinguisher nearby and wearing ear protection, protective clothing and safety glasses to avoid any danger from the side effects of super-fast charging. A small inconvenience that I would like to mention is that each phone can only be charged once during its lifespan, which ends immediately after charging. 🤣😂🤣

Good April fool gag. I do see many circuits all set around the totally non isolated dropper capacitor kind. I usually flag them as deadly.

Great design, no switching transistor means no problem with RFI at all. Maybe this charger is even better than my old-fashioned charger with magnetic transformer and good old 7805 at producing no radio interference 😁😇
