This song makes me cry every time i hear it, especially the part with the ravens calling. I think its because of the sheer beauty and awe of this song, and somehow because I am sad for some reason I cannot put my finger on. I miss Allfather :(

I've been listening to the preview of this song for ages, but man, so glad it's finally out. I have to say I am quite charmed by the sad but contemplative quality of it- full of the grimmest and richest wisdom. Very spiritual, like a long, knowing fatal sigh toward the embrace of death. At 2:57, when he pronounces Odin's name, you can almost hear him singing with a slight overtone, almost like someone else is also speaking through him.

You see a very large man with a single eye, old and wise, yet full of fire and determination. He hugs you tightly as you begin to protest, and cheers loudly as all those present raise their containers and cheer, a multitude of languages calling the same word. Then you ask him, "why am I here? I have fought no battle, I am no warrior?!" Odin sets you down gently and clasps you on the shoulder and with a twinkle in his eye, he twists his lips into a knowing smile and says, "My friend, not all warriors fight battles with their bodies." And then he welcomes you to Valhalla with open arms. Not all battles are fought with the body. Some are fought in the mind, and warriors fight to the bitter end, no?

Not a cheery tune; more like a melancholic longing for the warmth of the fireplace, the desire to be reunited with loved ones. The kind as one might sing while being away on unfamiliar seas, when winter‘s sharp gales cut the faces of men and the steel begins to freeze to your hand ? Those days when one could believe there is nothing more to the world but the cold expanse of ocean and land beneath an overcast and uncaring sky; when it seems as men is adrift in a realm he ought have not dared to venture into...
