I don't have any issues with the actress that plays Daniel's wife in the series but the chemistry between him and Kumiko is electric. I wish they were married at the start of the series.
That would've made better sense and the storyline would also be more powerful carrying over from their love affair from the film but as usual they have to ignore the natural state of something simple.
It was a miss opportunity, but is fine as is. I think the show just wanted to aim at a fun continuation of the rivalry between the two characters. That's probably why this relationship never really factored in. I thought Daniel was going to be the jerk in the series when the show began. If that was the case, would he be married to Kumiko? I imagine he would be an owner of a bonsai shop living in Japan if he ever thought she was the one. That would have made sense for the character too if they never did a Cobra Kai.
Same here I’m 46yrs old too. I might not look like it I am. I remember watching All three karate kid movies. I remember the happy moments. I chattin w/ guy who was 10 or 20 years younger than me. He said: He remembers gas being $3 dollars a gallon for gas. I remember it being 1.89 per gallon. Oh hell!!! Damn we’re old. I’m starting to say: Ah!!! U kids, I remember when gas was $1.89 per gas & there was arcade building centers where ppl would go bring there $20 just play games for hrs. Damn!!! Where did yrs go. Cobra Kai is such a rare example of Hollywood nailing it. Scrap that, knocking it out of the park. These are writers that are beyond talented. To take such a sinister villain like Chozen and turn him into a loyal, wise and honorable friend to Daniel. This series is gold.
How to be nice to know that mr.myagi was alive but left America and went back to Okinawa to live out the rest of his days with yuki but never shown because the actors are both died but it comes up in photos,his home in Okinawa or letters,things he left behind and Daniel finds it
@@Scarlettraventaqua1 Character from Fast & Furious. His actor died during the production of the 7th movie and they make his character retire to focus on the family. In later movies they literally said that he is babysitting the children of the rest of the group while they are fighting
I'm surprised that the writers didn't invent a loop-hole for a son of Mr Myagi, that nobody knows about, to enter the show.... then team up with Kreese.... oh wait, spoiler alert! lol..... if this happens, im gonna sue the writers!
Don't ever tell me time traveling is impossible...watching this and hearing this classic took me back to 12 years old again without a problem.....nostalgia IS time travel and thank you to this classic movie and song to take me back and to Cobra Kai for bringing it full circle.
That's true but in Cobra Kai now, we do want a bit of that drama even Ralph said in recent interview what if this (Kumiko and Daniel) were to continue..Him being a family man and all - something along those lines. It also, depends on how the fans react and the majority is saying him and Kumiko should have got married and she should been the wife in the series etc.
@@ArmyBlinkFan I just think Daniel is too loyal and honourable of a man to get a divorce. But yeah, Kumiko was the 'one'. The writers are excellent, so it depends what his wife would do that would make Daniel leave her.
@@jrobs1133 I have a feeling that it might eventually be the other way around. She leaves Daniel. I do think ultimately, Daniel will be with Kumiko - just like Miyagi always loved her aunt - it just might be a while yet.
Let's be honest, Kumiko is the woman Daniel should have ended up with. Edit: Given how much Chozen has changed over the years, I think he and Kumiko will make a fine couple also.
Tell me about it. When I first heard about it, I thought, “Oh, that’ll be a real treat!” You can imagine how embarrassed I was when it actually turned out to be one.
Just fantastic the chemistry between these two is still there. Biggest mistake Daniel ever made was not going back and make him Kumiko his own. And yes she is still not only beautiful but has blossomed into a stunning woman.
If I were their age, I'd have tears in my eyes looking at this. The 80s was a beautiful decade. Also, Ralph Macchio is a better actor than people give him credit for.
This was one of the absolute episodes in Cobra Kai. When she read Miyagi’s letters she got choked up and it seemed very genuine. Loved that part of that season.
Doesn't make sense. She wasted finding true love waiting for Daniel? She should have come back to the US with him or Daniel should have stayed put in Okinawa for her. What a waste 😔
@@sherwinpinugu She had to chase her dream of being a dancer. If she had sacrificed that to be with Daniel she might of ended up resenting her marriage. Better to let her accomplish what she wants and then see what is next.

Oh, you can't imagine, Kumiko was my "true love" as a kid when this came out and for years after, I thought that she was the most beautiful person in the world. When they brought her back, my heart literally dropped and I was speechless for a few minutes because my mind just left me.

They're reunion made me sob. It doesn't matter if its been 30 years, they're chemistry is still impeccable. Kumiko was his first real love. Ali was like a puppy crush love but Kumiko was his first real gf and the way he looked at her...how can a boy that looked at a girl like that ever leave her behind? They should've ended up together, they're one of the best couples in history of cinema
When the film hit the movie theatres first time round, this theme was everwhere, It still makes me cry to hear it even today, The impact this film and the characters had on everyone still resonates today, to see them reunited is so heartwarming.
So I was 8 years old when this movie released and I loved it immediately, especially the setting and getting to know more about Mr. Miyagi but I had the BIGGEST crush on Kumiko for YEARS. I thought that she was the most beautiful person that I had ever seen!
Both Elizabeth Shuh and the actress who plays Kumiko (Tamilyn Tamato - something like that) have aged VERY well. They both look better in their mid-50's than most women do when they are 21.
Daniel risked his life for her...if two people don't stay together,it doesn't mean that they don't love each other.I write about a special and unique love ,not necessarily a couple's love. Not even so much the one that got away for Kumiko. That man fought to the death for her. No man could measure up to that. The cultures are totally different in that way. That's a different kind of loyalty.
@@jasonjamieson1690 Teenager Chozen went about it the wrong way. He was domineering and toxic, and he even physically hurt her. No girl would want that. He fought to the death not for her, but for his pride and to claim her as a prize, not because he loved her. The mature Chozen is another story. He’s grown into principled and good man. But the younger Chozen is arrogant, toxic and a little cruel. If you had a daughter, would you like that kind of man for her?
@babsnadoy You said a lot, but it doesn't disprove my point. And I have 3 grown daughters, and they were shown the proper example of a man. Daniel fought for her and was willing to lose his life for her. Chozen was fighting because of his pride and bruised ego, because at every step, Daniel proved he was the better man. No man stacked up, and she saved herself for the only man that earned her virtue.

This is a nostalgia overload. This is one of the most beautiful fan-made videos I've seen but even way back then, I wish they would have ended up together. To me Kumiko is the best among the women in Daniel's life. Glory of love is the theme that tells exactly the relationship Kumiko and Daniel had. Okay, so I had a rollercoaster of emotions, I feel sad and happy at the same time.
The parallels are staggering. Miyagi left his true love behind in Japan and she never married after he left. Kumiko never married after Daniel left. Kumiko and Daniel still have amazing chemistry.
Agreed with the parallels; however, Miyagi never married and kept Yukie in his heart. Daniel-san lacked the inner discipline to keep Kumiko in the same manner, but he's feeling it... 😁
When I was a kid I watched these out of order. The Karate Kid ll was the first one I ever watched, at about age six or seven, so in my head I kinda thought Kumiko was Daniels true love.
I was a cast extra on the set of The Karate kid part 2 in 1985, mind you I was 18 at the time when filming started. You can see me in many of the scenes in the background (Such as the bar ice breaker scene) all the filming was shot around my home town of Oahu Hawaii, I can’t even explain how nostalgic and magical those memories were . I got to hang out with Pat, Ralph , and tamlyn , numerous times over the course of filming. Update: I’m now turning 55 and seriously remember those days like yesterday ..I miss the 80s terribly. I was always amazed how young Ralph looked despite him being atleast 5-6 years older than me.
Even after 30+ years the chemistry between these 2 is unbelievable, no matter what anyone says I will always feel that Kumiko was/is Daniel's true love
When I saw this video I burst into tears. I lost my first wife on 19th September 1994 and I would do ANYTHING to be reunited with her. How I envy Daniel for meeting Kumiko again.
Daniel and Kumiko are soul mates. I have never seen him look at Amanda the same way he looks at Kumiko. Even after 30+ years that fire is still there and they both still love each other despite moving on.
Need to be realistic here. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. They were kids. Yes, there could be some chemistry, but maybe she doesn't have to be married to have a fulfilling life. She has her dream career. Maybe she's bi, and is with a woman? The possibilities are endless. He has kids with Amanda, and I like her. Not everything can be completely emotions. Love and compatibility are different things.
We’re all like caterpillars, we change in stages, we want to be kids but we can’t act like kids.. These scenes we saw pure nostalgia, how time passes by, where we can look in the mirror and the kids who once were are no longer there, the innocence is gone and some love ones have passed away. No point of any disagreements, fights when we’re going to meet the same end..
OMG, Daniel and Kumiko were amazing together. It was great to see them reunite later on in life. I'm also glad that Daniel and Chozen bury their large hatchet and that he helps Daniel save Miyagi-Do.
Fun fact: Tamlyn Tomita (Kumiko) actually studied (but didn’t major in) Asian American Studies at UCLA and representation in this show was very important to her, so when they asked her to come back she made it a condition that they bring back Chozen and the girl Daniel rescued back as well and translated their Japanese lines to Uchinaguchi (Okinawan) for them and brought props from Okinawan American archives to the show :) Pat Morita (Mr Miyagi) is also the reason the OG movies included the drunk scene where they told Mr Miyagi’s backstory in the concentration camps. He wanted people to know what had happened to Japanese Americans and Japanese American soldiers in WWII.
Was so glad to see these two reunite!! The Okinawa stuff was my favorite part of the whole series so far!! Great seeing him and Chozen bury the hatchet. It was done really well with him tricking Daniel into believing a grudge was still there
This is a song that has been my absolute favorite since I was a little girl, seeing this movie in the theater...I'm 48 years old and I have always wanted this to be my wedding song,but never found the right one..after 2 marriages and the end of an engagement...I may have found that one.❤
that's not the only reason, Daniel and Kumiko were a much better couple, better chemistry and better suited for each other. Sadly she was the one who got away, I still think Daniel and Kumiko are meant to be together.

The 80's were the best. No social media, no smartphones, just damn good music, movies and good times. Those were the good old days. I wish I was young and back in the 80's again enjoying life to the max.
The first one will always be the most entertaining as the original, But I agree hands down 2 was the best. Better acting, better love interest, and the culture was the icing on the cake.
