Watch it again or look at the stats. Sean butchered him. Comfortably 1,2 and 5. Judges and you don't know what a jab is or feels like, don't know what a shoulder roll is, can't see when something hits the chest and for whatever reason when a leg kick is checked you think it landed.

yea it’s not a robbery considering it was so close. but that fight was too close for it not to be a draw/split decision for strickland. even dana thought it was 2-2 going into round 5 and strickland pulled it out, but he also thinks u have to beat the champ convincingly to take the belt. Good for dricus but a rematch soon is certainty needed

I felt that Sean was too passive for large chunks of time in the middle rounds. If you watch slowly I'm sure you can seeplaces where ddp hits glancing blows and gets countered flush, but things happened so fast and so often that all you could see was equal exchanges where ddp was the aggressor

Maybe that is the round he took the headbutt he is claiming or maybe he just gassed from the pace of the first two plus the kicks dricus landed to the body. He did eat some strong kicks to the ribs.

I think ddps aggression and takedowns were factored in way too much. He did nothing with the takedowns to make them significant, got basically all of his kicks checked besides a few and whiffed most of his punches. While Sean jabbed him to bits, I don’t think the judges factored Sean’s jabs enough either because they were very damaging to ddp. Close fight but either way ddp didn’t do enough to get the belt.

something that impressed me a lot about Sean is how good he is at dodging punches, sometimes it looked like he was dodging them by pure instinct. I think he would beat Izzy easy again. Also I knew Dricus was gonna adjust in the fight after the first round cuz the guy is really smart, but what impressed me about him was his cardio. its really not an issue for him.

Absolutely agree. Go further to say if there is no damage done off a takedown then take points away. Look at the damage a jab can do on duplesis’s face. Did absolutely nothing with his takedowns. Strickland straight away got back up. Wrestling is boring if nothing is done off of it. No ground and pound, elbows, submission attempts. Nothing. Boring. Couldn’t beat Sean striking so resorted to taking him down to slow down the damage taken. One guy agreed to fight to the death and did the other guy didn’t.

The unified rules only acknowledges control if damage/effective grappling is even for both fighters. In the second round Sean caused more damage with his jabs and shut Dricus's eye so he won the round. 1,2 & 5 Sean Strickland.

Had 6 TD’s but gained nothing from it. no ground and pound, no submission attempts. Sean also out struck Dricus, kicks, knees and elbows etc are not considered a higher “score” than punches in MMA. It’s total damage. Also Sean denied a couple takedowns, so are they not “scored” the same as getting a takedown. i don’t particularly like either fighter but Sean won 1, 2 & 5.

Dricus du Plessis won 2,3 and 4. I just watched the match again and he rightly won in my opinion. Round 1 was a 50/50, an even round for me. Round 5 Strickland won with the slightest of margines. Dricus deserves the win in the manner that he has, which is by split decision. The judgement was just, but it was such a close fight.

check every leg kick, pary off 90 percent of dricuses shots, and nullify every takedown. he did NOTHING with those take downs. sean just got right back up. lots of kicks to the body and landed more strikes total. points wise sean won. and i would say he landed more accumulated damage. watch it in slow mo and count each strike landed.

DDP had 38% significant strikes while Strickland only edge him by 4% due to unlimited jabs. How did he nullified DDP takedown when he got taken down by more than 50% of DDP attempts? That's a successful takedown. Also did nothing with the takedown? With over 2 min control time, what did Strickland besides those jabs?? Also another factor why DDP won were with how he control the cage the entire time. I thought y'all saying he doesn't have a gas tank? He pushed the pace while Strickland on defence the entire time. This is not Boxing. The entire time DDP won it by MMA criteria while Strickland won by point fighting in a MMA fight ROFL. Im a wrestler and even I think takedowns are valued WAY too much in the UFC when little to no damage is done after that. Lay and pray in MMA sucks and shouldn't be rewarded (DDP wasn't doing it, but making a general point). Also the knees to downed opponent rule needs to go away, along with the 12/6 elbow rule. If I had my full wish, soccer kicks as well. All of those things make an MMA fight not be a legit fight because you can use the rules as a defense and it looks bad. Nothing more pathetic than seeing a fighter with his full face exposed, keeping his/her hand on the mat to prevent getting knees to the head.

Sean dealed like 90 something % strikes to the head. Dricus had way more spread out strikes. Leg/body/head kicks, 6 takedowns, Head and body punches. Sean had that jab that did most of the damage early on

He never took it from the champ and Strickland one. You guys should be talking about a rematch It’s not like Drake is overwhelmingly beat them. Worst case scenario tonight it should’ve been a draw. So discouraging let me know when Strickland fights again then I’ll watch. I think a lot of people are sick of that one. People say, in title fights, the challenger has to earn the title, as was the case with Ankalaev against Jan. If it was close, he shouldn’t have gotten the title. DDP was the less aggressive fighter who died in the fight. Roberto Soldic knocked out DDP in the welterweight division. You act as if DDP is the best. Robert Whittaker or Izzy have been defending their positions for years. They might not deliver on-point performances anymore, but DDP is not a true champ. Surely, Khamzat or Izzy will come back and finish DDP. I’m not a Strickland or Izzy fan, but these guys are a different caliber compared to DDP or whoever that is. It’s just money-making with DDP. You’ll all see how long he can hold up there once all the top contenders come for him.

Surprise surprise, the wrestler is impressed with the wrestler. A joke that takedowns alone are considered damaging when in fact, they do no damage, zero damage! The only sport where a non-damaging move in itself gets awarded so greatly. Sean Strickland‘s jabs were far more damaging not even close look at the watermelon head after the fight.

Why are we scoring aggression from strikes that don't land? Most DDP's strikes were either blocked or parried. Why are we scoring takedowns that amount to nothing? No ground control, ground n' pound or sub attempts. All of DDP's aggression and yet he got busted up on the feet - I thought damage was the main criteria on how rds. are scored? Because Sean did more damage in almost every rd.

I think you believe you better than the judges so I would suggest you become one and go ringside because obviously in your eyes they had no idea what was going on.
