Listen to his real voice, then go and listen to his voice he uses in these films. The man is a DIFFERENT PERSON in his films, it's INCREDIBLE method acting!
+TimStarz04 I read in the biography and it wrote that he's the 3rd actor to win an Oscar for 2 consecutive decades along with Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson
Anthony Hopkins - The Silence of the lambs, Marlon Brando - On the Waterfront, Jack Nicholson - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Robert De Niro - Raging Bull
Its hard, but here's my top 10 of favorite actors: 1. Sir DDL, who else? 2. Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP, sorely missed..) 3. Gary Oldman 4. Al Pacino 5. Heath Ledger 6. Christoph Waltz 7. Joaquin Phoenix 8. Michael Fassbender 9. Benedict Cumberbatch 10.Willem Dafoe Runners up: Adrien Brody, Ryan Gosling (outrageously good in Half Nelson), Daniel Bruhl (Rush baby), Samuel L Jackson (sooo good in Django, Pulp), Michael Shannon, Casey Affleck & Leo (The Wolf & ofcourse...Gilbert Grape!) Always good: Michael Caine, Robert de Niro, Sean Penn, Christopher Walken, Chris Cooper, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon (especially Glengarry Glenn Ross), Viggo Mortensen (especially Eastern Promises & as The one and only King) Honorable (role) mention: Mickey Rourke; pure revelation & sooo Oscar worthy in The Wrestler, Matthew Mc Conaughey in DBC & The Wolf; John Hurt in The Elephant Man; Ethan Hawke in Boyhood & Before Trilogy, Rik Mayal in all things comedy; Ian Mc Kellen as Gandalf, Sir Christopher Lee for all things scary, Tom Cruise: astonishing in Magnolia, makes U forget about Scientology (talk about scary things) for a while...
O yeah, Robert Duval: belongs on the list too! For The Godfathers and The Apostle and so much more. This list is ofcourse not definitive...For example I also like Sam Rockwell, Kevin Bacon & Christian Bale in a lot of their work. And did I really forget an honorable mention for Jamie Foxx as Ray, and Edward Norton in Primal Fear & American History X?!
Yeah I saw Lincoln. I also saw Argo, Silver Linings, Zero Dark Thirty and The Master. IMO, The Master was the best out of all of them, followed by ZDT, followed by Argo then Lincoln then Silver Linings.
It's insane how the characters he plays are so incredibly intense, mesmerizing and terrorizing in the impact they leave on you after watching them then he just gets up there like a English gentleman and accepts the award. It's hard to believe it's the same person. He should have ended it with "I drink YOUR MILKSHAKE !....I DRINK IT UP !!"
+Daniel Alves Denzel Washington and Al Pacino had beaten him. Washington in 2002 for training Day, beating Gangs of New York, and Al Pacino in 1993 for Scent of a women.
+TheBleedingTomb actually, it was Tom Hanks that beat Daniel Day Lewis for Philadelphia over his performance in Name of the father and then Adrien Brody for The Pianist over Gangs of new york
Me replying to something you said 2 yrs ago, and I'm sort of sorry for that aspect 😉 Truth as I see it is that he wouldn't or already hasn't accepted one. There's a katrillion reasons why I'd surmise that opinion. And so, that's it.
I think the audience was really lazy that year. No one got a standing ovation. Maybe it had something to do with the writers strike; everything was austere and toned down. And ever since this ceremony, everyone seems to get a standing ovation: Octavia Spencer, Mo'nique, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock..
He doesn't need a standing ovation, everyone who has seen his movies will all agree that hes the best actor of all time, bar none. I can't even describe it, when I saw what he actually looked like after watching Gangs of New York I was confused and thought there was another Daniel Day Lewis, hes just that good. Nominees for an Oscar would be lucky if he doesn't make a movie in that year.
+Can Koral As much as i agree with you, Adrien Brody really made an emotional impact with 'The Pianist'... But of course, DDL was the next best thing that day...
Daniel Day Lewis admits that he was channeling the voice of Walter Huston in his portrayal of Daniel Plainview. If you listen to Huston deliver his lines in films like "The Devil and Daniel Webster" it becomes quite clear, in fact. A virtuoso performance.
This performance was honestly the greatest piece of acting I have ever seen in my life. At no point in that film did I believe he was Daniel Day Lewis, but rather Daniel Plainview, an absolutely insane tragic villain/hero!
Because of u dumbshits, he is overhyped af. There will be blood as a whole movie is complete shit. Way overrated. His performance was good but thats it. PPL saying best performance ever given, greatest actor ever. I mean ffs give me a break. Whats with overhyping these days.
This will go down in history as one of the great screen performances, alongside Brando in On The Waterfront, Pacino in Godfather Part II and De Niro in Raging Bull.
@Juvenal Catullus Just because they influenced him it doesnt mean that they're better. DeNiro's best performance was in King of Comedy, which is far away from DDL in There Will Be Blood, and Nicholson basically plays the same thing (he is very good, but not as good as DDL)
I love de Niro and pacino (de Niro has the edge over pacino for me) but I have to agree Ddl has more in his acting armoury he's simply amazing. I don't like all his films but his acting ability is peerless. My fave Ddl films are last of the mohicans and the boxer.
I just noticed the 4 actors that won an Oscar that year are all European: Daniel Day Lewis and Tilda Swinton (UK), Marion Cotillard (France) and Javier Bardem (Spain).
I would’ve never guessed that this voice is from the same person that portrayed Daniel Plainview. How the hell did he do that?! Most deserved oscar ever.
I watched There Will Be Blood 4 times in the past week. There's something about the film that really pulled me into it, and still hasn't let go. Daniel and Pauls performances were absolutely brilliant. Daniel Day Lewis, hands down one of the very finest in the game today. Cheers
@@MrsBlaileen1 There will be blood 2: The bloodening, There will be blood 3: The Bloodiest, There will be Blood 4: There will be even more blood. TWBB 5: Hemophiliac's revenge is delayed due to covid.
i wish he would have accepted it in character. " ladies and gentlemen! i'm an award man. i traveled half across the state to see about this award. i have two oscars, golden globes and numerous other awards, so - ladies and gentlemen, if i say i'm an award man, you will agree." then rushing off the stage blaring "i'm finished!"
Roberto Ruggio I'm very happy DDL won that year, because of obvious reasons (man is a complete genius, TWBB is gold), but I am a big amirer of Viggo and I absolutely loved him in Eastern Promises! Great movie too. Man, wouldn't that be great, to see the day when Viggo wins an Oscar? Im sure DDL would love that too (go see Red Carpet interview DDL/Viggo M)
For me personally and this is entirely my opinion, Daniel Day Lewis's performance in There Will Be Blood was spellbinding. I mean TWBB is a long watch but, I found the time passed amazingly fast for me. I found myself looking forward to every syllable of DDL's dialog. Every turn of his head or expression. I have not seen Lincoln but, right now, to me Daniel Deal Lewis in TWBB is the greatest acting performance I have ever seen.
hang on there a minute i personally think there are some that are better for example Brando in On The Waterfront and maybe DeNiro in Raging Bull but this was a truely great performance and if a malis thinks its the greatest let him think that i personally think its right up there for sure dont burst his bubble
Why are you replying to 2-year-old comments just to get your point across? I can respect you for having a different opinion than the vast majority on Day-Lewis' performance, but do you have to act like your opinion is more valid?
Man...I remember watching this live that night and rooting for Johnny Depp, because I was (and still am) an avid fan and just KNEW he was going to win for Sweeney Todd. I knew he would. But this man, whom I honestly didn't know much about until that night, swept in and got it for There Will Be Blood. I was so pissed. But then something about that baptism scene they showed stuck with me and I had to watch the film...and I could not stop talking like Daniel Plainview for like a year after. My momma was sicka me screaming "I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!!!" all the time 🤣🤣 Oh my goodness, I *immediately* withdrew all hate and fell in love with his phenomenal acting!! Love Johnny, but Daniel Day-Lewis did his thing in There Will Be Blood and I am heartbroken that he has retired 💕
It's really hard to believe that this gentle man with the voice and look of a young man, is the same person who plays Bill the butcher in Gangs of New York and Plainview in There will be blood.. What a great actor.
It always bugged me how Helen Mirren just said and the Oscar goes to Daniel Day Lewis. Even though everyone knew he'd win, the suspense of "and the Oscar goes to..." is important.
Do you think that it's a coincidence that Meryl Streep did the same thing (withholding the suspense) when awarding him the Oscar for "Lincoln"? Check the video. I think it's because they know he's an amazing actor and the other nominees are fodder to him lol
@@Xplozhun85 Except Joaquin Phoenix completely owned him in 2012 with his performance in The Master. DDL gave an Oscar baity performance and definitely didn't deserve the award that year.
@@nunka34ify Who cares about that? He's not focused on that weird stuff. He wants a decent director that has an amazing idea. He's not worried about politics. Even with a great idea and an amazing director I doubt he'll be coming back. Anyone who respects his work wants him to come back for more movies.
amionutube His mother was English and his father was of Anglo-Irish Protestant descent. Daniel Day Lewis was born in England and has described himself on several occasions as a "middle class Englishman". DDL is English.
Top 5 best actors in alive today 1.Daniel Day Lewis 2.Tom Hanks 3.Denzel Washington 4.Russel Crowe 5.Leonardo Di Caprio it's a shame DD Lewis didn't work much in the 90's because he'd probably have 5 best actor awards by now.
Richard Black They are very very good performances particularly the one by Daniel Day Lewis but there are so many performances which are much much superior to Ledger's.
I'm sitting here watching Day-Lewis' 3 Oscar acceptance speeches and I'm in awe of how humble this man is. He is easily the most gifted actor of his generation, and yet he has found the means to not let all of that clout go to his head. A truly great artist, and possibly an even better man.
My 10 Favorite Performances (No order) Daniel Day Lewis-There Will Be Blood Denzel Washington-Malcolm X Christoph Waltz-Inglorious Basterds Marlon Brando-The Godfather Leonardo DiCaprio-The Departed Al Pacino-The Godfather Part II Robert De Niro-Raging Bull Heath Ledger-The Dark Knight Jack Nicholson-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Christopher Walken-The Deer Hunter

I just watched there will be blood for the first time last night, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Everything in this movie was incredible. Daniel Day Lewis is magical beyond measure, and the way it was filmed, the story, the music. One of the greatest movies ever created.
In my opinion his performance in there will be blood is the best in cinema (that I have seen), I can’t think of one that comes close. Yes I know people say Heath in the Dark Knight, but I think that’s a little overrated
