About the conference
Since its beginnings, material culture has had the attention of researchers within humanities and social sciences. Nevertheless, the interest in material culture has only been partial and received little attention. Only in the last few decades the acknowledgement that it is not only people who create/make things but that things make people as well, has brought material culture to the fore of humanities and social sciences. This has led to awareness that material culture forms a fundamental, constitutive part of societies and social relations. International, interdisciplinary conference aims to encourage awareness of importance of material culture studies and materiality and to overcome and expand institutional frameworks.
Organizers
The conference Material culture: How things make people was designed in co-operation of Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana (Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Department of Sociology) and Research centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Its primary aim is to open and widen discussions and exchange of the knowledge associated with material culture studies in Slovenia and elsewhere.

O konferenci
Organizatorji
