He normalized her actions so much that he was still defending her and was trying to stop himself from doing it. He has made changes for the better. He has apologized to those he hurt. But he also doesnt want to be dragged back into it after undoing everything he went through and normalizing those actions and thoughts for so long. He has owned up to his past actions, but the others have not. That's what separates him from them. He has matured into an adult, while they remain immature and blame others instead like children often like to do.
