I think you're missing the point. He is saying there is no in between plural gender. Instead, he doesn't believe in putting a gender in a box but saying 'them' etc. is another 'box' that doesn't make sense. He is the perfect example of a male who doesn't fit the stereotype of a male and is just wanting to be himself not a label. Just because you don't understand doesn't mean you should attack him for his opinion, just as you don't want others to attack you for your opinion of your own non-conforming perspective.

With all love, if it’s not rude to talk about the age of young adults why is it rude to report the age of people who are older? That implies some sort of shame or that age is bad, when in reality, it’s an accomplishment for outliving death. If we can acknowledge age as an unemotional fact of life then we can celebrate aging instead of being ashamed of not being young anymore.
