The finger instrument Adam is making are Castenets. You would probably enjoy watching or reacting to Home Free drum solo. Just know that when he stands up he is NOT finished. 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠💓💓
Tim is standing in a boat in a backyard. This was done during quarantine and Home Free certainly helped get us through those long days of social distancing. Hope you will react to one of their patriotic videos to commemorate Memorial Day on Monday. Thanks for your reaction. Be well.
How good are these guys? The fun & energy in this is infectious. This was done during quarantine so none of the guys were even together. The editing of this was great & was done in the Tik Tok style. Love all the guys parts, with Tim's rumbling bass underlying it all. And Adam's beatboxing is phenomenal as always including castanets. Amazing how he increased the tempo from one song to another.
castanets, this song was even better live. i saw them several times last year and each time they did this song the entire auditorium vibrated from tim's low notes. every. single. time!!
Come on in....the water's fine! 🤣 You will find no band ever had a better bunch of fans than this group. I saw them in Dec, and will be seeing them again in July. The people are salt-of-the earth folks of all ages, and our love of HF bonds us.
@@karinfichtner7479 I love Acapella groups. It started with The Blanks (if you watched Scrubs, you know who they are), then the Maccabeats (Orthodox Jewish guys who started singing in University). So....this should be fun!
this rabbit hole has no bottom but it is a ride worth taking my favorite is their next one they release no matter what it is there are no bad ones from these guys
So interesting fun fact about Adam’s castanet sound is that he’s doing a technique called triple-tonguing. Basically with the tongue saying ta-ka-ta making this fast triplet sound. This is a common technique among brass players and it just so happens that Adam has his degree in trumpet performance. For more examples of triple-tonguing check out Wynton Marsalis playing “The Carnival of Venice” and you’ll hear some great techniques!
Brass player in school band, and can confirm the triple-tonguing. It's definitely a technique we use to hit triplet notes in a single beat, and it's reasonably difficult to pull off. Takes lots of practice, but it can be done.
A year ago I never heard of my new top 5 bands/singers but now it is almost all I listen to. I am classic rock fan but now I have become a big fan of Home Free, Sabaton, Leo Moracchioli, Nightwish/Foor Jansen, and Reckless love/The local band.
As always, I love your reactions! This is a really fun Medley. In "One Man Band" (one of their newer songs) Adam takes the first lead, but everyone gets to show their stuff. Really love that song.
This was done during the pandemic from their homes. Can you imagine Tim's neighbors watching him in a Jack Sparrow costume standing in front of his house singing to a camera? 😊
The guys kicked this up a notch! You're right, this was a quarantine video and no one was together. They did model this after the TikTok platform and they actually broke the medley down and posted it on TikTok and had people duet them! There were some really good ones! There's a reason they call Adam The Freak of Nature! The things he does shouldn't be possible, but I'm mighty glad he does them! Loved your reaction! I had to laugh! Your face kept going between grinning from ear to ear, to confused, to completely astonished! 🤣❤
Tim did an interview and was asked about the quarantine songs. They all got the same mic setups so the recordings would be as close to each other as possible.
Darren Rust is their main producer and arranges a lot of their songs. Darren’s had his own group, The Blenders, for 30 years. They started off as acapella so he definitely knows how to get that great sound.
And they were in quarantine !!! Remarkable they can do this....it was just amazing. Chance brought this to the guys....he got resistance from them at 1st....he finally convinced them, and it's now over 7 million views ! I am holding out for a part 2 !!!! thanks Danielle have a great holiday weekend !
I continue to be amazed by Adam’s ability to imitate literally any percussion instrument with outrageous credibility. Also? The level of extra that Austin is through this whole thing is perfect!
Having listened to Home Free for so many years, I often have to remind myself how great these guys are. I/we are so accustomed to Tim's bass, Adam's percussion, and the tremendous voices of Austin, Rob, and Chance, that what is 'routine' to them is so awesome!! Love these guys.
Your knowledge and experience with voice/music make your reactions so great to hear! Hope you get to see Home Frees live performance of the Sea Shanty Medley...the one with the HUGE crowd, the performance and energy is outstanding
I think I've watched that medley a hundred times! 😆 They just amaze the crap outta me every time they release a video. Really loved your reactions too!!
The HF guys showing their creativity once again: using the TikTok format to manage their separation during quarantine ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Tim staying so still to keep from falling out of the boat he's standing in--it makes me laugh because every time I see him in this I think of the animated pirates in Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean. 😆 And those castanets!! Adam Rupp's percussion and sound effects are second to none!! 🥰
First it was Adam's Human Harmonica and now it is Adam's Castanets that is amazing you. You would think that nobody would question his abilities, but EVERYONE still does. You are not alone, Danielle. I love this Post.
This song is my absolute favorite sing-along with Home Free - it's just so much fun, and it would be so great to have full versions of each shanty! But even as short as it is, it gets played a lot when I'm driving...
You are so much fun to watch and you have amazing insight! This is one of my favorite home free songs. Thank you for adding extra insight to it. #subscriptionsquad
Love the Home Free guys! Huge fan of everything they have done. Love the way you dissect the music and explain the different things that they do with their voices to get the sound they are putting out. Love your reaction videos..Pray that you have a great day!😊
I really think that Home Free saw the tic tock releases of this and thought let's show these kids how the older guys do it 🤪 great reaction I really enjoyed it.
From what the guys have said of their recording processes at home they all have their own little booths at home. Also, they all have the same mic. That was something their sound engineer insisted on. I'm unsure exactly what brand it is, but I know it's a modeling mic, so they can use different software to achieve different effects for each type of vocals they need. Because Tim is going to need a different mic type than Adam Rupp, who's going to need a different type from Adam Chance ( depending on weather or not he's singing baratennor or bass ), who's going to need a different type than Rob...
Loved the reaction. You really need to check out their cover of Ain't going down til the sun comes up. It's only on their FB page . Adam going insane with the harmonica sound.
These guys have honed their skills to the next level. They are hardworking professionals who always go all in with everything they put their effort into. I don't believe they've ever done anything half heartedly and it shows. I have so much love and respect for these guys both as musicians and human beings. This was another of their creations that delivered. So much joyful fun. Great reaction, as usual. You picked up Adam's castanets! Many don't!! Adam has had his beat lab in his home for a while where he records his percussion most of the time. During the pandemic, the rest of the guys got recording equipment and software so they could record their parts and their producer, Darren Rust, (the guys call him the 6th member of Home Free) can engage with their software and produce from the studio. That's how they worked their magic during the pandemic.
Love your reactions. Your face is very expressive. And your makeup is always perfect. Love the outfit you are wearing. Home Free is astounding and watching your reaction and listening to your comments is refreshing and detailed.
It’s so much fun isn’t it?! At first I was like sea shanty? What? Chance brought sea shanties to the boys and convinced them to do it. This was during Covid so they filmed it at each of their homes and put it in the TikTok style. Yeah, Tim killed the bass didn’t he? Adam was doing castanets. Amazing! So glad you heard that. Not many reactors do. It’s just a lot of fun. Great reaction Danielle. 😍😄
During quarantine they actually bought all the same equipment for each member to have the same recording values. The wives or significant others helped with the video taping.
I think I read that during the quarantine, their sound guy made them buy all the exact same recording equipment so that there would be Harmony in their recorded voices.
Those things are called castanets (don't worry, I forgot what they were called and had to look them up too) and they were a really nice touch on Santiana. Please react to 'Poor Wayfaring Stranger - Epic Version' by Simon Khorolskiy Feat. Chris Rupp (Adam Rupp's brother) Its REALLY epic as the name suggests.
"Adam, I don't understand...." None of us do. 😁 Those are castanets, and just like everything else The Human Percussion Machine does, they are SPOT ON! This is such a fun song, and I loved your reaction, Danielle! #subscriptionsquad
That amazing "clacking" sound created by Adam is the sound of "castanets" which are literally small hand-carved pieces of wood....2 castanet pieces are held in each hand clicking together as Spanish "Flamingo Dancers" whirled around the floor...Think castanets were/are also very popular with dancers in certain regions of South America.
I agree with what you said. I’d like to point out other features of this recording that most reactors missed is the all that’s going on in background tracks such as the castanets you mentioned but also the “swishing” of waves, the shouts of hey and whoa, stomping of feet, hand claps, and banging on guitars.
Castanets or castanets are a percussion instrument that three millennia ago was already known by the Phoenicians, who popularized the instrument in the Mediterranean areas through maritime trade. In Andalusia, Spain, it has become a national instrument.
#subscriptionsquad Thank you! Adam Rupp’s vocal castanets were my favorite part. Tim was standing in a small boat. You should check out Adam Rupp’s vocal solos this past year, absolutely brilliant!
I am new to your channel so you may have already done this song, but if you are looking for Chance on lead songs, try I Can't Outrun You. It is very good and has a little of a haunting sound.
Adam Rupp's VP is indeed among the very best in the world. Three things really stand him out from the many talented VP's. First he has developed an arsenal of more refined sounds that I have heard from any other VP. Second, He uses percussive sounds that truly fit the needs of the song. (Many VP's try to cram every technique in their tool bag into every song.) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY....I have come to believe he is a human metronome! (Many otherwise very good VP's lose the tempo which is their primary job!) As a percussionist, I applaud his talents on all of these!!!!
this video was totally done in Tik Tok fashion with the floating HF logo, 9x16 video and grayscale, including the clothes that Chance is wearing, all a throwback to the viral Wellerman video....Chance is the one that loves Sea Shanty's and talked the guys into doing this.
As amazing as they were BEFORE their Quarantine series (and EP) I truly believe that the exercise in separate recordings combined made them MORE conscious of how their arrangements went together. I'm sure that they (before) worked sounds and harmonies out together in the studio and developed with their EARS... and (after) were forced to use their MIND to develop their sound. They also took that time to work independently on their OWN projects (Tim, Austin, and Chance especially) and that brought even MORE experience to their mix when they finally got back together. While I was a HUGE Home Fry before and thought that they were amazing, since the Quarantine series I have noticed a much deeper feel to their sound. It's great to see how a group that constantly gets to practice their craft can grow.
Considering that this is a pandemic lockdown video, the harmonizing is even more amazing. They have done an amazing job setting up home recording studios. Darren Rust is a genius at getting the best out of the A Capella form especially but not exclusively with Home Free.
Excellent reaction ! I love Home Free ! I would be very interested in hearing what you have to say about 'Mad World', recently covered by 'The Bass Gang'.
tim in an interview with elizabeth /charismatic voice , said they all have the same mic and the software and sent directly to thier producer usually Darren Rust but has been different person last few vids ( ben haley)
Adam Chance goes by Chance. He is the first one to sing. This group is by far the best A Capella groups. Castanets is what you are trying to say. They all bought the same equipment to use. That is why it sounds like they are together while recording.
Adam rupp is insane!!! He is not of this Earth. His beatboxing is the best I have ever heard. I love this by these guys. Adam Chance and Rob. Awesome!!!! Then there is Tim with that low bass. These guys to me are the best acapella group out there.
Tim said they record from their homes. The one who mixes it takes over their computers remotely while they record. He also said they might not record together in studio ever again. With two living in Minnesota, two in Tennessee, and one in California, it makes it easier. He said it feels no different recording like that.
Ok, here is a brain dump of my understanding of Home Free’s recording process. Sorry it’s so long. Before the pandemic they recorded their vocals at Darren Rust’s studio in Minnesota; Adam recorded the vocal percussion at home even then. Based on some of their comments over the years, it seems that often multiple guys would record the lead vocals and then they decide as a group whose voice is most suited to the song. Rob (and Chris) live in Minnesota too so their parts frequently got recorded first and then the other guys would fly in to record their tracks. Obviously the pandemic made that routine impossible so there was some scrambling to get Austin, Tim and Chance appropriate microphones and software so Home Free could continue putting out music videos financed by their Patrons, basically keeping them employed when they couldn’t tour (I believe Rob continued to record at Darren’s studio.) The software gave Darren the ability to remotely control the recording so he worked with each one individually to get their tracks. Austin already had the beginnings of a studio at his house where he and Tim did their recording; Chance recorded in his closet. Then their video editor would guide them through the footage he wanted which the guys filmed (often multiple times) and sent to him. They said that filming their own video was a lot of work. Even though they can travel now they still record their vocals remotely with their quarantine set up. However their videos are back to being filmed by professional videographers with all of the guys in the same place.
Hi Danielle, answer to your question re lock down recordings, Home Free's producer the members to get the same microphone and also install the same sound producing software that he could access it remotely. heard this in an interview with The Charismatic Voice and Tim
some of his sounds, I have no clue, but the castanets he's basically just using double-tonguing technique like you see in trombone and other brass instruments. Alternating the front and back of the tongue with a tah-kah type thing
@@DavidSmith-nk2rc just outside of Spartanburg S.C in a place called camp croft, it was a Army training base during world war two. Enjoy your videos, and love home free.
