The amazing thing is he is doing everything wrong according to the traditional ballet training and still executes is brilliantly:) he must be extremely gifted, or his parents who taught him are geniuses.
Yes he is and that's actually the secret to turning well. There is no balancing in a turn because it's all about holding the position no matter what. It's like how a wooden top has no balancing mechanism but it turns because it is rigid.

Мы всегда учили держать точку: сначала по одному туру пока не отработается этот принцип, потом 2 и уже в старших классах по 3 тура крутили, и то не все. А здесь вон сколько туров без головы накручено! Вот вам и знаменитая вагановская система!
I was wondering about the non-spotting closing the eye technique also ... as it goes against everything we learn and teach. Then again... I am speaking as a mere mortal, not Simkin, (someone who pirouettes like the phenomenal Baryshnikov.)
