This is my favourite Nocturne of Chopin, and the interpretation of this piece by this pianist is one of the best I have ever heard.

I’m always so blown away by Daniil Trifonov’s delicacy. His command over the piano is absolutely marvelous.

Learnt this Nocturne 38 years ago. The most beautiful, and achingly lonely melody. Chopin at his best, and so beautifully played by a truly great pianist!

Just heavenly pianism. I love the way he isn't afraid to take lots of time with the phrases, and is so delicate with this piece - he also gets really soft at times. Pure and passionate poetry.

This is simply superb. I think I've heard every pianist alive and recorded playing this piece, but hardly anyone dares to be so inward and dreamy. And, as one of the other comments have pointed out, the trill section, at first a little surprisingly forward, ultimately seems exactly right, and very Chopinesque: a short, final breath of hope and resurgence (like Violetta's "rinasce" in La Traviata), which has to resolve in a quiet end. Chopin's second descending run at the end of the piece, where he changes into an almost Arabic mode, never ceases to haunt me, and Daniil emphasizes it just enough, perfectly in fact. Close your eyes, listen, don't expect more from life, but be grateful for such beauty.

A lovely interpretation with a keen sense for line and phrasing. The note-to-note rubato in fashion back in the mid 20th century has been completely toned down: what a relief and a pleasure.

@jabarzey
@jabarzey 4 года назад
He kind of fell off in the final two rounds... is ‘fell off’ the right phrase? It all comes down to very fine margins when you’re judging pianists of this calibre, and sometimes you have instances where one pianist might be ‘better’ on one day and ‘worse’ on another... I use the quote marks because honestly, when the art is this superb, there is no better or worse, only ‘equally beautiful’. It’s all opinion at the end of the day. It’s worth noting that, of the top 3 of the 2010 competition, Daniil has had the strongest career since.

WoW !!! Daniil has a gift, a real one ! If Chopin was listening he would say « THATS exactly how it should be played » !!!! Daniil play with so much love and all his soul, he is not playing a piece, he is becoming the piece himself ! Its like he is giving him up, no ego, Daniil doesnt exist when he plays, only the music in a perfect présent instant... sorry for all this blabla, but this guys ... ^^

He was the winner for me. To be honest, all the top 3-4 prize winners are usually the very best pianists. I am sorry but the politics exist in the music industry too and they just could not let Fazioli win such an important competition.
@lvb1770
@lvb1770 6 лет назад
How does the Fazioli piano have anything to do with the winner? The pianist wins the competition not the piano. Are you saying that Steinway payed the Chopin competition to make the winner not playing on a Fazioli? I like Faziloli better than Steinway myself.

Beauty, exterior beauty in this case, has little meaning. Beauty, in fact, in all its shapes and forms, is always skin deep. What's if true value here is intimately interior, deep within the soul all of the communicator, the composer, and most poignantly the music itself. ❤
