We haven't had Penelope or Danahue releases in the US yet. I will be watching to see how you and Jay Jay's and Ken's are doing. I don't want a non-livey Penelope. It is fascinating to see the difference between the two roses.

My Dannahue gave me 100+ buds almost in full shade! 😱 Very shade tolerant rose. Penelope got eaten by bags- looks like the buds are attractive to lots of different insects like thrips etc.

Maybe Penelope Lively is a rose that is less happy in the cold and gloom of winter and comes on later in the season? One of my roses never really lost its foliage over the winter when all the others were bare, and leaf-dropping certainly varies from rose to rose - some are "hardier" than others. Incidentally, I found that I online was able to order named roses that I wanted cheaper from a certain DIY store than from the grower, although they were sent direct from the grower and were strong healthy roses that I was delighted with.

It’s the strangest thing . My PL in the front garden is still not really shifting compared to every other rose in my garden. The one in the back garden seems to be fine even though it’s a newer rose purchased bare root only a month or two back. Gav’s PL purchased this year is also doing very well with lots of growth. What is Ken’s doing, is his doing well? I’m Pretty sure mine wasn’t well when I decided to move her. But it will be interesting to know how others are doing. It may well be the energy exerted it just takes time to rest. But your leaves are definitely bigger and more numerous than mine. Your danahue is flying there for sure.

Oh and Ora and boscobel two great roses in my humble. Both repeat very well for me. Boscobel it’s flowers don’t last very long for me on the really hot days but like I say both repeat very well. And boscobel the fragrance I really like. I hope you like them.

Panelopy is not all that lively is it?… nor is danahue..give them horse manure .. they should’ve been planted in rose compost with microrizal fungi to the roots.. ( D & A) does provide it..i find any other compost just won’t do.. i had to repot them all in rose tree & shrub compost
