I have these boots, my last pair was the moc toe version and I was disgusted with how quickly the stitching on the toe came apart from working indoors 95% of the time, these round toe are alot better and have lasted much longer than the moc toe. Both are very comfortable pairs of boots but this version outshines the moc toe for working imo.
Danner is the only boot company I’ve found that doesn’t lie about their sizing. I’m a size 10, usually wear size 10-10.5 in running shoes, I wear a 10 in Danner’s, but a size 8.5 in red wings, which is just ridiculous. If I were to buy redwings by my actually size they’d probably fly off my foot.
Same with me. I wear a 10-10.5 in running shoes (mostly Nike) and a 9 in red wings. I just picked up a pair of these in size 10 and seem pretty true to size. I wasn’t able to try on other sizes though because I ordered from Amazon.
I wear an 11 Tennis Shoe. A 10.5 D in Thorogood. A 10 in Danner Bull Runs, and In Redwing I wear an 11.5 B width ( which I can’t hardly get and if I do it’s the 10877 and not the regular 877.) I work in Danner Bull run 8 inch and I wear the Thorogoods everywhere else.
I just got a pair of the 8" and so far so good. The vamp break-in has been a little tough but better than some. I've got an ancient pair of Acadias I picked up at a flea market for a couple of bucks and they've been crazy durable, have thought about getting them resoled but the stitch-down and upper condition probably isn't worth the attempt. Unlike the Acadia these Bull Runs actually feel almost too roomy in the toe, though I normally feel the other way around and have slightly wider feet (got wide EE in some shoes in the past).
I found these to be narrow and with the soft toe the top pinches down onto the top of my toes. This was the first boot after buying boots for 40 year that required other than A "D". I found the Origin to be only slightly closer to true size. Whites, Redwing, Thorogood, Justin, Keen and Bellville all work with "D" width. We won't talk about why the PNW companies can't Brannock.
on my third year as principal everyday foot wear. Holding up better than any red wing classic I have owned. break in was hard and long. at around 10 months I dabbed a lot of mink oil INSIDE. Great ! I got on sale for $129 free shipping U.S. Fit true to size 12 M or D. Really looking great. Note, I walk alot less than I use to when I wore red wing classic which i resoled twice. My Jack Russell puppy chewed up the upper so I cut them down myself.
I agree totally that the throat is too small. I struggle to get my foot in this boot, but one in it’s comfortable. Other than that these are great boots.
Thank you for your review! As mine are fully broken in (mine are their Moc toe version) I fully enjoy them. However, bc of the cloth lining in the toe box, and the cloth lining on the insole, my feet get much warmer than when I wear my Red Wing moc’s.
I wish they would offer a premier version of the Bull run with an 8mm leather midsole instead uf the synthetic midsole they offer now, I'd pay an extra $40-50, if they'd widen them a hair.
I've had a pair of Bull Runs since 2014, they're the 8" version though. Unfortunately the material at the heel has worn away and the plastic there cracked so it's kinda like walking with a piece of glass in your foot.
Please tell me you didn't wear these over the past few days. Ive been too hot to wear socks, let alone a pair of boots!! Either way, love the review. And these are very much on my 'to get' list
Great review of Danner boots. I'll keep an eye on ya channel. I'm looking for a new boot brand as Timberland boots are gone to sh#t now quality wise. Tims I recently tried on had similar problems as your Danner boots: too narrow opening and toebox with hard backs.
I have owned a pair of these for about 3 years and really like them. Robust, comfortable, look good, can wear all day no worries. I may go down a size when I order my next pair though as I get a little heal lift in one?
Great review - only issue i have with mine is (dont know if this is issue for others as well 😬) that laces provided by Danner and the lace socket is not compatible i.e the laces are thin for the lace socket and it moves a lot even when you try to tighten them up. Any idea what other thicker laces that needs to be purchased to rectify this issue.
I have the mountain light 2 in the 007 style I been wearing for almost a year and plan to give a review on them up next to the eddie bauer K6 I have. Being the first Danners ive ever had its odd that I had to get a size EE and them still be too narrow, I have never had a issue with shoes being too narrow before lets alone having to purchase a size EE! So being a handmade item the sizing may not always be true.
I had same problem, i NEVER have to buy an EE shoe in any other brand known to man kind. But in Danners i HAVE to get EE and there still to narrow and so i never will buy danner again. Because there EE is basically every other manufacturer’s narrow. So wtf, how can you make boots and not even know how to make a true M(medium) width like everyone else. Its stupid AF. So no boot fits me from them because they dont have normal true M medium width like every other boot maker has. How can you make such a huge mistake like this? You cant even make widths correctly, really? So im sorry guys, unless you have a narrow foot, to me then danner is not for you. Sizing width wise is broken. ✌️
These are real boots. Soak them in water and wear them for one day moist. They will break in in one day. Treat them with lanolin afterwords which will soften the leather and make them very comfortable
Can you recommend a good cobbler that can resole and repair good year welt leather boots, like the Iron Ranger. I am based in south Devon. Thanks Mike.
Most people won’t have to go up a half size. Most will have to go down a half or 1 full size. I wear an 11 tennis shoe (US size) I wear a 10 D in the Danner 8inch Bull run Moc toe, and a 10.5 D in the Thorogood 8inch Moc toe.
