That was such a restrained rendition, when the natural inclination is to belt it out it takes real talent to keep the brakes on. Probably the best rendition I’ve heard in many years

O Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen and down the mountainside. The summer's gone and all the roses falling. 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow, Or all the valley's hushed and white with snow. 'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow. O Danny Boy, O Danny Boy, I love you so. When winter's come and all the flow'rs are dying, And I am dead, as dead I well may be, You'll come and find the place where I am lying And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me. But I shall hear, though soft you tread above me, And all my grave shall warmer, sweeter be. And you will bend and tell me that you love me; And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me. O Danny Boy, the stream flows cool and slowly; And pipes still call and echo 'cross the glen. Your broken mother sighs and feels so lowly, For you have not returned to smile again. So if you've died and crossed the stream before us, We pray that angels met you on the shore; And you'll look down, and gently you'll implore us To live so we may see your smiling face once more, Once more.

The title says it all. My dad used to sing this when he was drunk (which was often) it brought a tear to my eye then as it does now. We played "Danny Boy" at my Dads funeral, if I had known of this video this would have been the one. This will play at mine. It is sweet ;D

Thank you John....to all the Irish who had to leave their homeland of Ireland... leave mother, father, brother sister and the graves of their ancestors....who fought for freedom... but hunger, the empty belly.... now, one cannot fight hunger... one must leave and find food where it is... no matter how far. Irish... blessed be the mother who bore you... and the soil that you had to leave behind... and the heart grows weary every day, because Irish, there is no place for you now...l don't belong... l have been gone too long from home. May God bless you and give you His peace.

Phenomenal job considering it was acapella, no music to hide anything (was nothing to hide anyway), just his pure controlled voice.. And all the while, slouched on a couch! So, for those who say there is better that maybe true but not by much if any could touch John singing.. Let alone without music... And certainly not sitting down.

That was incredible. From the start, I was just reading all the comments talking about how beautiful it was and just that fact that half the comments section was in tears... I was kind of unimpressed until part way through where I realised I was getting shivers and was fully captivated. I don't know how he did that, but that was an incredible rendition.
