Danny Röhl: Sheffield Wednesday's Rabbit out of a Hat 

Reaction: Danny Röhl extends his Sheffield Wednesday contract (26 May 2024) I'll be honest, I did not see this coming, but what fantastic news! The last third or so of the video has now been rendered largely irrelevant. Unfortunately I am not currently home and thus am unable to make a follow-up video, so I'll post my thoughts onto here instead. The terminology which has been used to describe this signing has tended to describe that he has 'extended' his contract, not that he has signed a new one. Perhaps I may be reading into things too much here, however I think that this implies that the contract he has signed has either very similar or identical terms to the one which he was already on. I also have not seen any reports of there being a salary raise or a change to the hefty compensation fee of 5m from the previous contract. To me this suggests that he is very settled at the club; more so than I would have thought. If he had had any thoughts about leaving at any point in the next year, then I don't think he would have signed a contract extension. I don't think Röhl is an idiot; he surely knows about Chansiri's past record of dealing with managers and general football operations, and he must have signed the extension having known this. His confidence in his mutual relationship with Chansiri on football operations and administrative plan of running the club both long term and day-to-day must be very high, which I think it terrific news. One aspect which I didn't consider in the video is that he is absolutely loved by everyone associated with the club; the fans love him, the players love him, the media love him, and the chairman loves him. If he were to leave then there is far from any guarantee that he will be thought of in this sort of light at another club. Perhaps his apparent liking of the city of Sheffield also had a bigger impact on him than I realised!
