The Brute could be a very good thing for GR-Research. Congratulations Danny! Can't wait for the kit on this one. ( But post-COVID pricing is the only negative.)

Danny, Your explanation of baffle step compensation using a three way configuration was quite enlightening. So much so that I followed suit but with a single driver with a contour network in a TQWT enclosure. In order to not mess with speaker's impedance, I implemented the baffle step compensation using a toroid choke || Resistor to Resistor voltage divider at the output of a preamp. As a result I was able to move the -3dB roll-off point from 57Hz to 43Hz. Furthermore the compensation yielded much better LF vs MF phase alignment. Many thanks.

Big pro audio drivers can be amazing for hifi when done right. There’s so much headroom in terms of sensitivity and power handling, you can make them do whatever you want and there’s no need for ports or transmission lines to artificially pump the bass up. They don’t need it. Big clean bass, no group delay, big SPL. And they’re not expensive either.

Small size and room coupling are big advantages of sealed boxes. A sealed 12" can be the same size as a ported 10" or even 8". Properly coupled, a room boost is more-or-less the inversion of a sealed woofer's natural roll off. I swear Danny's tuning is the pro version of how I hack my car stereo to make it sound sweet.

A fair price, especially for a three way configuration. There's nothing similar out there for the same amount. However, if I were in line for such a speaker, I might consider a simple two way (on your right) over it, coupled with a single servo woofer. I never managed to find a good compromise for a single speaker, either it's closer to the front wall, with a good low frequency output, or it's more into the room with completely lacking 'bass', but really enjoyable midrange and the rest of it.

No, is not the Effect. I have a pair of TAD speakers that are wide (about 16 inc wide). There are the Yamaha NS-5000. Both those speakers well placed in a room, you do not hear them. Deal with the room, and they do disappear. Both are inert, that's the secret sauce. Do not toe them in. Leave them almost straight. The "transparency" is related to the wider high frequency dispersion on the small baffle. I feel a wider one sounds more natural. Do not over dampen your room. Dampen mids and it sounds so natural. I use this type of speakers. If I ever had to sell my TAD, I would buy these. Killer deal. This is to me the best type of speaker design out there after open baffle, but way easier to deal with in the room when you have no dedicated room. What a knock out! So the bullies will be a homage to B&W 808 I see :P

Are these speakers mirrored? I couldn't tell from the video. Also, why not angle the side that is furthest from the M&T so that after it comes up above the woofer, it heads over very close to the tweeter, thus reducing the interaction with the baffle? You could make up the loss of internal volume by making a deeper or taller cabinet. It seems that something we've learned in the "modern speaker era" that's well worth retaining. Nice work and interesting video, bro!

I played with some stuff on it, but in the end, it just didn't matter that much. You can play with it a little if you want, but don't over do it.

If you cut out the big flat part of the large baffle would it help with the baffle issues he was talking about?

Danny, would adding an absorber to the front baffle help with the surface diffraction?

I was thinking the same sort of thing, but don’t change the box at all. Just make a 1.25 - 1.5” thick pad that is “L” shaped to raise the tweeter, mid, and woofer above the current front baffle and add a piece of NoRez to fill in the rest of the front baffle. It would be easy to do with minimal change to the internal design. Add a 1/2” round over to the edge of the “L” and it bet it would have the sound stage of my X-MTMs. I am thinking about making a set of these, after I make make a set of the X-SLS to complete my home theater system.

I tried adding some material there but it really wasn't that necessary.

What's the distortion figures on this Speaker @ 96dB? 106dB? - Max output?
@dannyrichie9743

Honestly, distortion numbers are an easy to manipulate figure with no industry standard. It is more of a marketing tool than a real number of any value.
