NOTE: this is from the Danny Hoch show "Jails, Hospitals & Hip Hop". This details Danny's experiences with the show Seinfeld, and some racially problematic situations that popped up.
John Leguizamo has an almost identical story about almost being cast on Seinfeld, and bailing when they kept urging him to make the character more of a stereotype.
I agree. I really loved him in Black Hawk Down. I re-watch that scene where he is impersonating Gen. Garrison all the time..... and it's funny every time lol
@@beatrixxkiddo4584 Hi Something I have been in search for quite sometime is a connection with somebody that goes beyond vanity. It's very hard to do in this day and age. People can be, somewhat very superficial. On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people. While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there. I've been in the process of change for a while now and I have made some decent changes. I saw your profile and it intrigued me. I wanted to learn more about who you are and what type of path you would like on in life. Can we talk?
he was better off refusing, can do his own thing, altho they say you do other peoples bids then get more offers, but would it be the same degrading underlying material,,,,, hollyweird rite..........
They wanted the accent to show that they’re from different worlds. The guy who got the role played Ramon as weirder than this guy which was different enough. This clown sent in an audition with multiple different accents and then refused to do them when he showed up.
The actor that played "Manny" does not actually have a Spanish accent. The actor who played "Poppie" does not actually have an Italian accent. The actress that played "Marlene" does not actually have a southern accent. The actor that played "Babu" does not actually have a Pakistani accent. Jason Alexander does not actually have a NY accent.
I’m curious how this guy feels about standup comedians using accents and mannerisms to implement intentional stereotyping into their routines. Some of the well known comics (Pryor, Chapelle, Mencia) did/do it quite often. Is he okay with those? If so, why? I’m truly curious why it’s different, and seemingly OK, when presented in standup routines.
Carlos Jacott ( that played Ramon) didn't have an accent or act any type of stereotypical way in the actual episode. So if that is what their actual intention was...it didn't happen. This seems embellished and goes against everything that everyone that worked on the show said. Good for him though. This story is why everyone came here.
Lmfao what in gods name are you talking about. The Ramon character was portrayed as & spoke exactly like a typical whitewashed working class PRican-murican man. Again, what? What’re you talking about…? Are you being sarcastic or something..?
this guy is full of it. they hired him for that part because of the characters he played in his stage act and then he all of a sudden changed his mind when he showed up.
its not about race, its a common theme that Seinfeld has guys coming onto him and he doesn't want to be friends with them, most of them white also Seinfeld is an equal opportunity offender, they make fun of everybody
@@RoyalKnightVIII The last thing he said: "Maybe, if they at least paid me, I wouldn't be telling this story." That says it all. If they would have PAID him, he would have kept quiet - like Rose "Sellout" McGowan. Regardless, I don't hear even the slightest accent by "Ramon" in that episode.
@@RoyalKnightVIII How is it stereotypical? And how is it any different than the intentional stereotyping by standup comics, including well-known standup comics? Do you object to that as well?
I get the impression that Danny, while well-intentioned, is one of those overly senstive, self-righteous guys. The story feels embellished and overly dramatic. He even admits to being vengeful in the end by telling this story.
Lol no guess he's just not an overly sensitive pussy crybaby snowflake who gets their feelings hurt over a JOKE!! That was funny hahaha hahaha Go bitch and cry some more 😂😂😂
This the attitude that got u on RU-vid and not the big scene . Everything is not a conspiracy wtf . If he’s not Spanish and he’s was Italian would u make a big deal ? Wtf is the problem bro
It’s weird because Ramon doesn’t have the Spanish accent and doesn’t seem Spanish at all in the episode lol kinda weird stance from a guy who was in Whiteboys and dropped the N-word numerous times in that movie
I don't get this at all and I never will. This dude is an "entertainer" who does voices and characters. It's what he does. Jerry was running his show. He wanted the guy to be spanish speaking. You do that character. So do it. That's why you're there. It's what you've already shown you do. I don't get why you try to make this stuff out to be racist. It's weird. Because you're a white dude and your whole shtick is you do voices. That's your thing. If you don't like it then just don't take the job and move on. Why do you keep bringing it up like you're some kind of MLK?
Brian Cavanaugh you piece of shit. maybe because we don't want to play dumb down characters. because people like you believe negative stories. and as long as Hollywood is racist we will continue to bitch, protest, and TALK about. so yeah, that's what you get for being a colonizer.
Just watched a marathon of Seinfeld, season 4. The show is a comedy sitcom, set in NY. So it makes sense to have diversity. In just a few episodes there was a latina maid named Lupe, an immigrant taxi drive, and a Pakistani neighbor. I would bet money that all three of these actors were making up the accents. Because they're actors. Also, for what it's worth, and in agreement with what Intelligent Divine wrote, there is no stereotype here with this particular nationality and subject matter. In fact, almost all of the pool workers I have known are caucasian. I also know of many landscapers who are caucasian. Hoch's ego got in the way and tanked his once-promising career.
And? Nobody cares about your white opinion. I wasn't talking to you. I can use the internet however I please. You say that as if you can stop me. You can't!
I guess he is saying it would be un-ethical and borderline racist. They could have cast a Latina actor it was 1995 not 1965 where Natalie Woods plays a Latina girl cause Hollywood wasn't diverse yet.
