No joke, that made me a little bit sad. They weren't in it to win, they were there to show Dante he needed to be prepared. Technically in the end they sacrificed themselves to aid Dante to defeat Virgil, I was sad when they died.

@KimPopGaming By virtue of being in direct opposition to each other, they consider each other enemies. Dante has never sought to kill Vergil like other demons, but he knows that killing him would be best, and nearly every time they fight, it's to the death. Dante takes it up personally to finally end his brother, since he believes he's the only one who really can, and he temporarily does so in DMC 1. Dante still harbors some love for his brother (and Vergil debatably does as well), and they both certainly respect the other's strengths, but they are concrete enemies. The fact that they are constantly matched is what makes them rivals, as they have lost and won fights over the course of their rivalry.

Dante is literally the physical embodiment of nonchalance, cockiness and Confidence with the arrogance to prove it DMC 4 Dante was my favorite coz it's the only game Dante never really felt threatened. @@galaxy_kitten95 Arguably, the outfit itself in DmC isn't bad, it's more the attitude of reboot Dante, the mismanagement of the publishers and PR, and the misinterpretation of what should've been a love letter to the old instead becoming what looked like a straight insult to the original (DmC's infamous white hair moment). That frames the color scheme and outfit so much worse than just "Punk but it's interpreted as emo now"
