Such a great interview. I stayed in an Airbnb just at the bottom of the Tor (but still on the Tor) earlier this year, before I'd ever heard of Gwyn or the fair folk, but was on a spiritual path. In the early hours of the morning I suddenly woke up to some strong energies passing through the bedroom and the strange sound of ethereal singing. I knew the veil was thin at the Tor but had no idea about the deities or the Otherworld etc and it wasn't on my radar as that wasn't my spiritual path. I looked at my phone and it was 4.30am. The energies were extremely strong and felt very male, but because I also heard the singing (which was female voices, think Lord of the Rings Rivendell-style singing, definitely not human-made) it wasn't too bad and didn't feel threatening. Nevertheless I figured out the veil was thin at this time of the day and stuck my head under the covers and asked the house to go easy on me as I was just a visitor. The next night, the same thing happened. I was awoken in the early hours to strong energies in the bedroom. Again they didn't feel harmful or threatening, but I refused to look at my phone to see what the time was as I was feeling a little freaked out, and I kept my head under the covers again. This time I also heard rhythmic drumming instead of singing (I have very rare episodes of clairaudience as I am predominantly clairsentient). Again the strong male presence was in the room, or "passing through the room," as if this time of day was when these particular energies pass through generally. I kept my head under the covers and refused to peep out. I couldn't get back to sleep and ended up getting up early to go about the day. I was due to stay a 3rd night at this Airbnb, and had paid, but decided to leave early as I didn't have the bottle to do the third night there. And so I drove home later that afternoon. I've often had the sense that I was supposed to stay the 3 nights though. About 6 weeks later I got into a random social media conversation with somebody who shared their esoteric experiences on the Tor with me, and immediately recognised the energy they were describing to me. This person identified the energy as Gwyn, and so I synchronously learned about Gwyn for the first time! Needless to say, since that trip my spiritual path has transformed and I'm now on a very unexpected journey into a different and very Celtic/Brythonic direction....
As an aside, following Danu's comments about a possible Roman shrine on the Tor, the Roman equivalent of Gwyn would most likely have been Dis Pater (sometimes referred to as Pluto or Hades). The Romano-Britons may therefore have worshipped a hybrid Gwyn-Dis or Gwyn-Pluto deity (as they would often join the Brythonic/Celtic god or goddess's name onto the Roman god/goddess, to sure up local support). This is just conjecture of course! The equivalent of Persephone would therefore be the goddess/mythical figure Creiddylad.
Thank you so much for sharing this. It sounds like he was calling to you and perhaps encouraging you to a path of exploration. Yes, the goddess would seem a blend of Persephone and Demeter. Gwyn and Hades definitely seem to encompass similar traits. I think you will really enjoy my conversation with Darragh Mason author of Song of the Dark Man. This will release to Patrons this week and general release next week.
Back in the 80s a friend bought a local publication from the old Gothic Image and it contained an article claiming various tunnels in Glastonbury. From memory there was a tunnel from the George and Pilgrim to the Abbey, some around the tithe barn, a space inside the Tor, and so on. Over the course of several weeks we talked to many locals, debunked most of the rumours, but talked to a kid who claimed there was indeed a tunnel by the White Spring. There are a few water board structures, as you point out ... there is a reservoir at the top of wellspring lane on the left going up, another inside the Tor itself. If you approach the Tor from where the minibus now stops on the NE side, about one third of the way up you will find a metal cover, and inside there is a large concrete reservoir. No crystal's. Finally there is the White Spring structure, which was derelict at that time, and would seem to have been part of a Victorian scheme to use the water. Adjacent to the White Spring is a villa (which was vacant at the time) and which also has a spring, and it was there that we found the tunnel. It was about 4 feet high, brick built, and would seem to have been 19th c, and doubtless part of engineering works connected with the various attempts to channel water from the spring. We crawled along it for about 20 metres, at which point it was choked off with mud. It ran in the direction of the Tor, so tantalising. A quest both disappointing and successful - we found the tunnel, but not King Arthur :-) BTW, I think Dion Fortune, buried in Glastonbury and instrumental in creating the Chalice Well precinct, was partly responsible for popularizing the notion that the Tor was hollow.
The dragon part of this chat stopped me in my tracks! About 8 or 9 months ago I began dreaming of dragons, they're not a myth I have ever been drawn to and the imagery has never appealed to me, but the dreams were reoccurring and very vivid (although impressionistic) About 2 months ago a female friend reported that she was suddenly 'seeing dragons everywhere', wherever she went there seemed to some image or representation of one. There really does seem to be something strange happening with women and dragon energy so I was fascinated to hear your friends take about the elemental union angle. Coincidentally, I'm also visiting Glastonbury for the first time in September so this was a really illuminating conversation for me. Thank you!
Thanks, that's so interesting. I wonder how many others have been sensing this. I've never really been into dragons so it was a total surprise for me too but they are appearing in my life a lot.
I loved this. Having been called by Gwyn myself and undergone tests and a massive transition this was such a joy to listen to. I shall certainly be looking up Danu and getting her book. Fascinating stuff.
Fantastic conversation full of Spirit. It reminds of an experience I will share a little poem about... Gyn ap Nudd As I walked near the base of the Tor I began to enter the Mythic. And I felt that for me that day with a kind of fairy magick the Tor held a kind of buffer zones near its base, Which helped the mind of pilgrims to slow down, settle to a calmer wider bandwidth. Thus allowing for communication and keeping the terrain sacred from the scattering effects of forked human thought and emotion. My footsteps became slower, I had allowed myself to be guided. As I sat in the chapel connecting to Gwyn App Nudd I saw him dissolve any dark sprites that arose from the great under. This was the task St Collen had put upon him. Gwyn App Nudd’s mind also extended to the joy of riding through apple orchards. Content in his land. Later as I sat on the side of the Tor he said to me “One difference between your kind and ours is that our knowledge tends to stay with us, rather than it landing in the space between the ears and then coming and going in remembering and forgetting.”
@@tomllewellyn4189 thank you so much for r sharing this Tom 🥹💚 I love the sense of the threshold at the base and allowing yourself to be guided. Beautiful! So many folks have had experiences at this sacred place. It’s quite amazing. Would love to hear your story some day 🙏🏻🌿
Thanks Jo, really enjoyed listening to your guest and your good self... just longing to visit the Tor again now!... 🙂.. been years since I was last there but always feel an affinity to it, perhaps because my family are Welsh. Thanks for upload 💫
very interesting indeed. I wonder if you've heard of Veda Austin, Jo? The conversation around the aquifer made me wonder. It links up with the idea that there are waterways underneath the pyramids in Egypt as well. Water seems to be a common denominator.
