I've been there, born and raised till 14 in a village of no more than 1000 people. Life is hard, cannot deny it, because you don't have many servicies and you have to be auto sufficient, but it gives you something more than the city. It gives you the love for the nature, when year after year u eat apples from the same tree your grandfather planted years ago. The same feeling covers you when you and your friends gather together with just a knife and some ropes, make your own bows, and go to catch wild rabbits, that you will eat on the spot. Now I'm 21, i've been in Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, but nowhere is like at home. Yes, in the cities i learned a shit load of things, from biochemistry and physics to psychology and philosophy but, no matter how much i learn, and how much i change over time, i just can't take that life style out of my hearth. It's just a matter of what we've learned to value the most, in the city, is money, in the rural is life.

I live in Romania, about 150-200 km from the delta but i never saw it ... I plan next year to spend all my free days in the delta and live simple and healthy like this !

What a wonderful morning commute with bird songs and wildlife all around and do we need to mention there are zero traffic jams? Come home to a loving family, a clean home and good eats. That's living.

@ christina S "Life should be like this again" It still is, in many parts of the world! What's stopping you from joining them? You romanticize this because it's other people living these difficult lives where they have to work morning to night just to survive. You know you'd never do it yourself.

Hundreds of islands separated by water, isolated from the mainland starting from where the Danube splits into hundreds of channels to flows into the sea. The cars are useless because the access here it is possible only on water.
So, they have a decent roof over their heads and are able to provide most of their food out of their own garden or from their own life-stock. The husband goes fishing apparently for fun and own use as he clearly mentioned that the fishing does not provide an income and he collects reed for various uses. His wife runs the local shop and bar which supplements their daily needs and they live in a fairly clean an nature reserve part of their country. What else do you want? I lived in Romania (I am Dutch) for over 9 years and the grandparents of my ex girlfriend lived in the countryside as well and although a simple life it was a hell of a lot better then in the city! But if you hear the wife (as I understand their language) it always is of a complaining nature.....why? Be happy with what you got!
În 1986 am luat greșit "Pasagerul"vaporașul care lega Mila23 de Galați - o zi mergea la Letea.Deși a început cu un plâns (aveam 13ani) a meritat greșeala.Am dormit pe vapor - același cu care am ajuns mai târziu în "Milă". Totuși la Letea era mai frumos - dune de nisip , pepeni care creșteau parcă din nisip - copți la începutul lui August , și caii sălbatici , printre care mai mișunau puzderie de porci făcuți scăpați de localnici (legal era rezervație și nu ar fi trebuit să fie fiind foarte dăunători - dar paznici "recoltau" cam un sfert din ei - taxă de protecție). Cred că zona a rămas în continuare blocată în timp .
